If the TouchBar is removed there won’t be anything differentiating the MBP from the MBA other than form factor, at least looking at the current M1 laptops. They’re otherwise basically the same computer.

Incidentally, I like the Touch Bar. I’ve found an app-customizable keyspace to be handy. To me, as with bezels and notches and thinness, the vitriol directed to it can only be understood in the context of Internet forums, especially now that we have a physical Esc key.

I don’t really understand how anybody hates the Touch Bar. I totally understand how some people don’t feel it’s very useful and that’s fair criticism.

I have a 2016 Touch Bar MacBook but it’s quite rare I use the touchbar myself. From what I’ve read it does seem that Apple has limited the potential of the Touch Bar with their design guidelines.

Why can it not display progress bars for background tasks, or notifications? Why not display the time and date and save space in the menu bar. What about upcoming appointments or the current weather forecast? I’m sure there are ways to do some of these things using additional apps or AppleScripts but they need to be baked in to be useful to the majority.

It’s also not very adaptable. My use case for a Touch Bar is entirely different when I’m sitting with my laptop on my lap compared to when it’s docked on my desk. And the Touch Bar should adapt accordingly.

I won’t miss the Touch Bar if it disappears but that’s a shame because I could have, if Apple had ever made it as useful as it could have been.

Good…I hope Apple executives notice, it’s that bad on an idea. And even worse execution.

I know CTOs who buy Airs in high volume just because their users complained about it so much. (Accidently touches by noob users were being interpreted as computer having virus or “acting weird." Wasn’t worth the support tickets.

As a concept, I loved it. Ran right out and bought the first MBP with it. Within a week I hated it and still do. I simply want the option of having the most up-to-date specs without having the Touch Bar. IMO, that was the rub, you either buy with Touch Bar or you buy a new, 3 year old Mac.

I think it's fine they did the experiment. Now, it's time to learn the lesson and admit the failure.
No it's NOT fine they did it on unsuspecting customers in need of a new MBP. We're not paying through our nose to beta test wonky features for Apple. This isn't a "learning case study". They deserve to be ROASTED for this gross failure and inconvenience they've caused their Mac users.

I remember when people here were salivating at the futuristic-sounding rumors of programmable, LCD keys on a keyboard.

Wow, after 2020 and quarantine, it is good to be reminded that I am not alone. There are at least 3 other people in the world who see the benefits of the Touch Bar.

And everyone so excited about Magsafe, I hear you. But if I have to choose between that and one charging cable for all devices, I will take the convenience of the universal cable all day long.

Apparently, some people don't mind a separate checked bag for cables and chargers when traveling. I do. Also, USB-C is universal (that's actually what the "U" in USB stands for). For everyone who likes to complain about overpriced proprietary cables, USB-C is an industry standard.

So finally, their focus on usability and battery life comes full circle - touch bar is useless, battery sucking, and expensive. Get a stream deck instead - that at least works when you're using an external monitor and keyboard!

As far as the ports, i've been resigned to dongles - but the big advantage is no useless ports on the machine itself. SD card - useless (I use XQD/CFExpress). HDMI - useless at home, useful on the road (display port). USB-A is now pretty useless because I get better performance from a thunderbolt dock with multiple USB-A ports than an old USB-A hub.

The big thing I'm hoping for is opening up rosetta to the hypervisor framework. All this is moot if I can't run intel workloads on the machine....

Touch Bar? More important is that this article provides more proof of why I will never use Twitter.
