move your finger back and fourth while touching the button. Does the actual button move any , do you notice it actually moving. ?

Yes, I noticed this on the one I just returned (for another issue). My new, exchanged one, doesn't have this issue. So if it really bothers you, you can exchange it and hope for the best.

Mine does, if you move it side to side. It does feel like that part lacks the precision engineering of the rest of the MBP.

A little... It is more when you touch it when you get that "clicking" sound. I wonder if this would be a quick fix through warranty?

100% positive their should be zero wiggling when you do that. If it does, take it back and get a new one. Go to the store, touch the ones on display, they won't do that.

I unfortunately started a thread about this without seeing this one, my 2017 BTO also has a slightly loose power button. It makes a lite clicking noise when I barely touch it (noticed it first when scanning my finger during setup), and if I rest my finger on it, I can notice the slightest play to the left n right. It is also so minor but seems like it shouldn't be like that. I'm not sure I would take a chance going through the exchange process just to get another one with the same if it's pretty common. It is a button after all and certainly more tight than the keys on the keyboard.

Just spoke to Apple Care, they said it's normal for it to have a little play since it's a button. Gonna go stop by the local reseller and see if it's the same. Hoping it is.. machine seems pretty flawless otherwise.

Just got back from the reseller, the 13 inch they have on display is solid and the 15 inch is the same as mine. What to do?

Called Apple Care again, they didn't even want to discuss the matter, they are going to send a new one. By the sounds of things, it's probably not common to have this issue.

They will all be 'slightly' loose as it's a button, if you jiggle it or tap it, it should wobble a little. If you turn the laptop upside down and it falls out then it's too loose.

I believe there's some difference occurs through use/grime in there, which is why some feel a teensy bit more solid than other. But as I said it's supposed to be a little loose. If people want to return it over it then it's their prerogative, just know you'll be without a computer for a few days an will likely get the same situation back. Which if you don't understand it's supposed to be like that, will probably lead you to an endless return cycle.

Def do not want to go into a return loop for no reason. I felt two models today, one was firm and the other had a jiggle. I only asked Apple Care if it was normal and they said they would rather send me a new one, and didn't even answer my question. From what I can tell, some are tight and some a little loose and there is probably a little tolerance there that they accept...but get the feeling more are tight.

They may come from the factory tight, but will loosen. As I said it's a button, if it was absolutely tight it wouldn't work.

Apple generally have the policy of appeasement, so they'll be happy to send you a new one as explaining to people that they're wrong can often lead to an upset customer. So just be aware of that, they'll usually agree and try keep you happy, but it might not be the best thing for you.

Of course I haven't actually looked at your machine, it could genuinely be very loose. I'm just saying you should expect a little looseness.

I couldn't agree with you more, and if I was home in the states I would go into an Apple Store and find comfort one way or another, but I am in Thailand and far from the mothership of support and don't know what is right or not. I also don't want to turn nothing into something.

I also appreciate your advise .. Thank you

With each time I cross an Apple store, I test this button and from time to time I fall on the same defect. I leave like that.

I remember the 2016 model Touch ID button was a little loose I had but I returned that one. I now have the 2017 15" and the Touch ID button is not loose it's very firm with no wiggle at all. I put my finger on it and tried to feel if it would move up and down or side to side and it won't, very firm feeling.

I've been super happy with the new updated keyboard and love the Touch ID feature. Listening to my music now on iTunes...did I say these speakers are loud? These speakers are loud and clear, loudest I've ever heard on a laptop.

have got new macbook pro 15 inch (2017 kaby lake) , have replaced it for 3 times, cos of keyboard issues.... all 3 had a little bit loose touch id button... i suppose it's normal for the macbook with touch bar....

I had a 2017 15'' MBP before I got my current one (I had to exchange it for an unrelated issue). The first one I had had no play in the button at all-- I was already aware of this issue and made sure to check. The second, new one I received does have some definite play in the button.

At the end of the day, it is frustrating that some MBPs will have this issue and others won't. However, it's all relative and you have to wonder how important this issue really is. You certainly have the right to exchange yours out for a new one, but this issue won't impact you in day-to-day usage. You have to figure even the models which have 'firm' buttons will loosen up in 2 years time, anyways.

Agree

Hello everyone, I asked about this problem in another thread receiving some response.

I'm almost sure a small looseness is normal, anyway, i attached a video. Whats is you opinion? The laptop is a macbook pro 15 2017.

Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

Best regards.

My 3rd replacement is super tight, no wiggle at all.
