Get the screen/home button replaced at the Genius bar. My 6+ and my buddies 6+ (both launch day phones) barely worked when it came to Touch ID. Since we both got our screens/home buttons replaced, they have worked perfectly. I'm thinking there was a production issue.

Yes, I don't know why people can't understand that TouchID can and do fail just like any other hardware in the iPhone. Coming here exclaiming TouchID is terrible on the iPhone 6 after having it work for a while makes one look stupid.

No trouble at all,

i have no idea what you guys are talking about

Had my 5S since release date (which i still use as an international phone), my 6 Since release date, and my iPad Air 2

All of it which works fine, and i love it when I'm eating buffalo wings or something and i can just use my left index finger to unlock my devices.

It works flawlessly, you guys are doing something wrong.

Like following the instructions to enter a finger? The applying said finger to the Touch ID, and then seeing the shaking non-acceptance of sip aid finger by the iPhone?

You mean THAT wrong step?

Or perhaps it doesn't work perfectly fine for everyone? Ever thought of that for a second?

With Touch ID, you can't replace the home button without also permanently disabling the Touch ID function. Apple's security protocol assigns matched hardware identifiers to both the processor and the Touch ID module. If the identifiers do not match, then you cannot use Touch ID. Look at the notes for the replacement home button part on ifixit.com ...

https://www.ifixit.com/Store/iPhone/iPhone-6-and-6-Plus-Home-Button-Assembly/IF269-006-1

Please note that only the phone's original home button assembly will be capable of using the Touch ID functionality.

Installing a new home button will only restore ordinary home button functions, not the Touch ID features.
If you had Touch ID problems, then I would guess that Apple replaced the entire phone.

I was having touch ID issues along with the front camera issue and they planned to just replace the screen. They said the screen and Touch ID unit are one piece. No need to replace whole phone. I complained and came back a couple of times and they eventually replaced the whole phone. Incidentally, Touch ID still doesn't work for me. For some people it's just useless.

if you can't get the touch ID working, maybe you should give up and go back to flip phones. Ever thought of that?

it got a day or two to getting used to. it works flawlessly.

Sideways upside down, it still reads your finger prints its pretty amazing.

it reads so good sometimes i don't even want it to read my finger prints, like waking up my lock screen by pressing the button to show a dope wallpaper.

yeah i don't see apple improving something it doesn't need to, just because a couple of users don't know how to get it to work.

I vote defect or user error.

Mine has always worked great and on my 6, 6 plus, and so did my 5S.

My wife can't use it on her 6. It never ever works for her. I also have my print on her phone and it always works for me.

So in her case it's user error or defective thumb print.

Exact same situation as my wife and I. Her phone will work perfectly with my fingerprint but not hers. My 5S and 6 work great unless there is some excess moisture or oil build up on the home button.

Could be a bad batch of sensors. Bring it into an Apple Store if it's bad they should replace it
Apple has sold almost 90 mlion iPhone 6 &6 pluses by now the majority are good or you would be overwelmed with posts

Sheesh. This thread is rife with the mud slinging and condescension.

I noticed my Touch ID "acting up" a bit recently. Nothing terrible. I may reset it and see if that fixes things. Worked flawlessly at first but I get a few failed sttemptd where I wouodnt before. The button has been loose and "chunky" when clicking ever since I got the device. May or may. It be related.

Perhaps you could offer a seminar. Call yourself professor Thumb :)

But seriously, do you think it's possible some people have finger prints that give TouchId problem?

I have heard of the case of a teacher who had trouble getting finger printed for his job because his prints has no ridges like a normal finger.

I a positron think its true. My grandmother lived with my mom who ran licensed day care in Ca. She had to get fingerprinted (as does everyone over the age of eighteen living with the provider who works out of their home). Long story short, her fingerprints were just worn (probably from years of manual labor) and they couldn't fingerprint her digitally nor with ink. She passed before touched existed but I doubt it would have worked for her.

oh well that makes sense, from wear or tear too. my uncle wouldn't be able to use it because he burned off his finger prints.

ill certainly give some seminars for cheap price 99.99 :D haha jk

but in all seriousness. If you're finger prints are fine, you're good.but as a user mentioned above is there a smudge, oil or water or whatever its not going to work. thats something i didnt think would need mentioning.

Just curious, did this solve things for you?

If you haven't reset your Touch ID yet, I highly suggest following Ledgem's suggestions for set up (post 17). That's the same way I do it for myself and family members and that's what the instructions during set up say, too. I've been using Touch ID since the 5s and pretty much the only time Touch ID doesn't work for me is when I've just washed my hands.

....well so far so good!!!

I deleted all 5 of my previous thumb prints and then re-scanned just one new thumb print. Since doing this, I haven't yet had one instance where Touch ID failed to recognized my print (before doing this, it would fail at least once a day). But its still early days yet!

Everyone finger print is different (duh). Some people eat hamburgers, some don't. If you have trouble, check to see if you leave good finger prints.

That's not what I said, isn't it? If, somehow, the Touch ID button is malfunctioned, then I guess the phone exchange(s) would solve it. I just don't understand how anyone can't get it to work AFTER a few exchanges.

I mean.. even a cat paw works, for Christ sake.

Yeah, don't know how to get it to work more than just occasionally.

Again - follow instructions during creation process, apply finger to sensor, display shakes, and user is forced to enter password.

Not much involved in "don't know how to get it to work" as opposed to it simply not working.

But say/do whatever you can to make your perfect little fanboi world all filled with unicorns and lollipops, I guess.

Interesting, but when I talked with the Genius bar, they said they have to replace the whole screen to replace the Touch ID home button and when I got my phone back, it did have a new screen since they removed my Zagg I had on there. I didn't even need to redo my fingerprints afterwards. It just worked. heh.

fanboy*

lol fan boy world, it works in real life. if there was trouble with it, this issue would of been exploited by the media by now.

iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 Got both of them on launch day works flawlessly. iPad Air 2 works flawlessly as well.

The other millions that have bought it are doing fine. Not to mention it works fine on 3 devices i purchased.

Thanks for updating the thread.

I love touch ID. Huge hassle saver in the car or when walking around. 6-digit passcodes are a pain.

Glad it's working for you now. Long may it continue.

Yep, just the mention that one's print reader does not work will bring out the bashers. Even after trying two different phones I gave up when it fails like three times in a row.

It is a non-issue for me.

Me too. Not much of an issue. Bu it's. Of flawless for everyone. The fanbois go crazy when they hear that. And then the attacks commence.

...well, just as I suspected, Touch ID has gone back to being a complete shambles.

Last night, my iPhone 6 failed EVERY time to recognize my ONLY thumb print! It just would not work at all. I had a clean thumb(!!) but my phone was just NOT having it.....!

I had to resort to deleted my existing print and re-scanning a new one.

:(

Once a day is "TERRIBLE"?

I porbably unlock my device 100 times in a day....if it failed ONCE that would give it a 99% success rate.

That seems pretty great to me.

And I've tested it against a 4-digit passcode - for me anyway, TouchID is quicker. If I have to try a second time it's the same time it would take for me to enter my 4-digit code.

Not to mention my iP6 is a work device and they REQUIRE a complex password.....which takes quite a bit longer to type out 100 times a day....

In the end, TouchID is NOT 100% perfect...no technology is. But it's damn close for me and provides convenience on top of extra security (in the form of a complex password vs a 4-digit code).

For information - I have 5 separate digits saved....both my thumbs and pointer fingers and my wife's pointer finger. TouchID learns over time, so constantly deleting and re-saving your prints isn't helping. If it truly has trouble recognizing your fingerprint over and over again (not once a day), you have a faulty device - take it to Apple for a replacement. Simple solution.

----------

I think an individual's skin texture has a lot to with it. For me, Touch ID fails 90% of the time when I check it first thing in the morning after my shower or right after washing my hands. Otherwise, it works consistently.

When I record a second thumb print from a recently dried hand, it works Ok at first, then degrades consistently for then next few weeks. Is that a software issue, or is something changing with my print? Hard to say.

Either way, let's not assume that a person is doing something wrong if they're having problems and you aren't. They may just have rougher hands!

Ummm...not to sound rude or anything, but I think it's pretty obvious that water and wrinkled fingers would cause just about ANY fingerprint reader to misread a print.....

Take it to Apple. It's obviously defective. This isn't the norm.
