Yup, have done all those things over the last 24 hours (I'm a methodical person when I hit a problem).

Turns out the culprit is the official leather case. Naked phone, no problem, protected phone, no TouchID while charging.

Will try to let Apple know though, hell of a bug.

I have the exact same problem. Ran through all the trouble shooting. It works out of the case & plugged in... But not while plugged in, in the case.

Mine does this same thing. I just have some random case I bought at the mall… Plugged in, in a case… Touch ID does not work. Take the case off and don't change anything else… It works. Unplugged it works fine either way with or without a case.

Hi folks,

I noticed last night that on both my iPhone 6 Plus and my wife's iPhone 6 the TouchID sensor won't work if the phone is plugged in and charging. We are using old chargers and lightning cables, so it is possible the ones that came in the box will fix it, but it's very odd. Plug in - phone can't see the finger, unplug it - unlocks at a touch.

Anyone else seen this?

EDIT:

Turns out it only happens when they're in their cases - Midnight Blue leather for both. And the lightning cable has to be powered, unplug the charger from the wall and it works. Odd combination. I've filed a Radar.

Though this is a 1 year old thread, I just come upon it; I found out that this issue will occur when using certain third party chargers, nothing to do with the outlets (at least in my case, as I tried several different ones); with Apple's original or plugged straight into a computer USB port everything works fine.

When my iPhone 6S was charging with iPad's charger, the Touch ID wouldn't work. I plugged into native iPhone's charge and it worked

Same issue here. I either have to remove the ipad charger or the magnetic leather case or touch id gets really buggy. I have an iPhone 6s btw.

Same problem here.

iPhone 6S, official plug, official cable, official leather case.

In case, plugged in, no worky.
Out of case, plugged in, it worky.
In case, not plugged in, it worky.

Is there a fix? Is this a phone or a case problem?

Just got my 6s plus today. Exact same problem. I have a black incipio case. How strange! When unplugged, fingerprint is lightning fast. When charging, it doesn't even recognize that my finger is there 9 times out of 10. Wondering if I should return the phone for another...

i have had three 6s plus all with same issue , I used my works Iphone 6 charger cable, doesnt work, use the one provided with my phone and its all ok,in or out of the case. its weird!

SOLUTION - Or at least EXPLANATION

So, a lot more testing later...

I tried wiping, TouchID won't even work when factory reset and charging.

Tried the charger that comes in the box. Still won't work.

I removed the Midnight Blue leather case - TouchID works.

That's the common factor with the 6 and 6 Plus, we're both using Midnight Blue cases. So something about being in a case (and maybe the material or colour - who knows, all I have is blue to test) is interfering with TouchID when charging. If I had to guess it's heat maybe?

Anyone else got a case to test it with?

I'm using a Tech21 black case on the iPhone 6plus and I'm getting this exact issue. Couldn't figure out the pattern of the Touch ID not responding until reading this forum. The sensor fails to respond while plugged in with the case on.

I removed the case and plugged the iPhone back in and the Touch ID worked.

Hold phone in your hand while charging and then try unlocking

I have the same problem, I have a plastic clear case, I removed it, it now works. It used to work in the same case before, it is playing up today. Not sure why. I tried touching the exposed metal part (while the case is still on) of the phone with another finger (of the other hand) while unlocking the phone with fingerprint, it would work sometime, so maybe it is the electric current has something to do with the sensor? Maybe it is something I wear today :p.

The sensor works by sending a signal from the button ring through your finger. The sensor grid in the button then records the signal levels of your print's features.

Anything that distorts the signal or reception can cause failure. For example, moisture can allow the signal to short directly across the sensor surface instead of going through the fingertip. AC noise could cause trouble too.

Does anyone with this problem own an external battery booster? Curious to know if the problem happens using one of those to charge.

You think the act of charging itself could cause this issue? Maybe coupled with certain types of cases?

An improperly installed wall outlet, i.e. Not grounded correctly could cause this issue when an oem charger is plugged in.

Cheap battery chargers, with wonky voltages can also cause this issue; or so I'm reading.

I haven't yet wrapped my brain around why a plastic case on the phone would make a difference.

I have been looking for a solution forever! The solution is that you have to use an apple power block while charging! Totally fixes the problem!!!

No the problem is just that you have to use the apple block that comes with iphones

Not problem lol im sorry. The solution is to use an iphone or i guess apple branded charger. Maybe bc the apple chargers are low voltage or amperage

This has been said again and again.

The ACTUAL problem is an electrical grounding issue that occurs with either some third party chargers or OEM chargers with improperly grounded outlets.

When your phone is not in a case, you don't notice this issue because by holding the bare phone, you are grounding the current because you are touching the metal body of the phone.

The definite workaround is to touch any metal part of the phone itself to ground the electrical current of the charger. You can try touching the mute switch or the metal surrounding the camera. Some cases have the logo on the back uncovered so you can try putting one finger there. Obviously you touch the metal part WHILE unlocking with Touch ID.

[doublepost=1486075260][/doublepost]Same here! I removed the case and then replaced it after wiping the inside down. I believe it has to do with humility or moisture caught between the case and the outside of the iPhone. Works great now.
