Touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro Coming in 2026 With Dynamic Island and Redesigned macOS Controls

Lots of changes. Waiting to see the dynamic island in action. Think there will be $200 hike at least. Would like to see cellular connectivity option too.

Firstly i guess the pin hole design is already sunk. Trust Apple to recycle a redundant feature onto another one of there products.

I am not sure if i like the idea of notifications popping down a dynamic island on a macbook pro. It is already annoying as hell on the iphone.

Just thinking out loud: what if there is a proximity sensor that recognises when your hand is close to the screen? That would be a very Apple-thing to do.

I agree. They did it a couple of times before but they were minor upgrades, not the kind of thing that might irritate someone who doesn’t follow rumors and buys an M5 next week when they launch.

I also find it odd that they’ve delayed the M5 Pro and Max chips for several months… but seem ready for M6 performance chips before the end of the year? Maybe there was a fabrication problem with M5 Pro/Max.

I suppose these new MacBook Pros could also launch as “MacBook Ultra” or something and be priced well above the standard Pro line. I would be interested in OLED but I don’t want a touch screen and I don’t want to pay much more than the current price of a Max.

I’m desperate for an upgrade as my 2018 is at death’s door so I think I’ll have to just settle for an M5 Max next week.

As someone who has used a Surface laptop for the last few years I can tell you now that you will never find a use for it. The iPad Pro with a magic keyboard is positioned so that your arm doesn't get tired casually pressing the display and you can always pull the tablet off to use the pencil. Its only a few inches difference but a laptop screen makes for a terrible touchscreen experience. Your arm is much more outstretched, pivoting from the shoulder rather than the elbow.

But then again what else would I expect from a mobile UX industry that has outright failed at basic accessibility and ergonomics acrossall areas?

You do the right thing. That grease from the fingers on the screen is the perfect recipe for triggering the delamination of the anti reflective coating… as well as triggering my TOC wanting to have a clean and pristine display.
 
TBH, I think a touchscreen will appeal more at the lower end of the market and on smaller devices, so I wouldn't be surprised if the low-end Macbook was first to market with a touchscreen. I've seen many people who are used to phones/tablets try to poke a laptop (or even desktop) screen. More experienced users tend not to do that (and I personally don't particularly want to do it on a nice display 🙂)

Agree, too many times I have heard Apple say “no” touch screen on Mac. Isn’t that why iPad has a keyboard and mouse?

Apple has the right to change their minds, but this is a philosophy of Apple I would be surprised to see changed (but of course whatever for a buck $ in this day of Apple).

I had a Windows laptop from 2012 that was a touch screen. NEVER used it. Tried it for a few days and arms got tired and I don’t like the smudges on the screen. My hands are not oil-y. It is normal to have smudges on the screen if you touch it. I personally won’t buy one and hope they keep the Mac line separate if they do (2 types).

Maybe Apple wants to make a killing on their Apple cloths. Raise the price also 🤣
 
I just hope macOS will support some generic touchscreen drivers ... the Mac mini sitting in my hallway would be the perfect home hub then and I wouldn't have to stress the battery of some iPad I'd have to buy

I'd just attach the 14" FHD touch panel I already have ... using some controller board and AliExpress / 3D printed case

Horrific, just truly horrific.
 
Honestly I do not see the point in a touch screen. It's not comfortable to use. I've tried on windows models and it's just uncomfortable, nothing to do with OS, the mechanics of using a touchscreen while you have a massive lower part of the machine to traverse is cumbersome to say the least.
 
We didn’t like the notch on iPhones, but now we’ve accepted it. The same will likely happen with MacBooks. Apple clearly has some idea, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re preparing customers to transition from MacBooks to iPads (or similar devices) in the future.
