Touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro Coming in 2026 With Dynamic Island and Redesigned macOS Controls

The only certain and exciting thing about this new MBP is that a new phase is coming. The first macOS that is only compatible with Apple Silicon, and therefore a new MacOS phase.
My fear is the possibility of Apple replacing the Touch ID with the Face ID. I don't want Face ID on my computer.

They won't do it cause iPad with Magic Keyboard. It's long overdue and they know it. Why now!? My kids 8 year old Chromebook is touch. Bought her a m4 mba for xmas and she's constantly trying to touch the screen. Hates that she can't.

Agreed. This article is legit an “in-between” where rumors are mashed-up just in case.

No info here just everything in one.

“May be a redesign”? I thought the M6 was a sure OLED redesign and reach of the M-Series?

EDIT: I was thinking a bit about what sort of apps might benefit from touchscreen and I think any that involve a lot of drag and drop such as editing a lot of video clips into a movie.

I do video editing and touch screens are the worst applications for this. Selecting multiple clips and dropping them into the timeline is not going to be better with touch. Most of video editing is very precise controls - down to individual frames: 1/24th to -1/60th of a second. Sound editing is even more refined than that. Effects and titles usually require pixel precision for node points and extreme precision for keyframes.

Playback, jogging, shuttling are more easily done with the keyboard. Apple didn't introduce FCP to the iPad until the pencil was pretty refined - and a lot of video editors don't even use the track pad for video editing and use a mouse because it is more precise.

Doing any of this with a finger is like like trying to do a professional portrait with children's sidewalk chalk. And if you're trying to video edit in software where using a finger to drag and drop would be useful - then you're probably already in an iPhone app.

At this point, I have no interest in a touchscreen Mac. I don't even touch my iPhone or M5 iPad Pro screens directly. The former has a screen protector and with the later, I either use the Magic Keyboard or a stylus.
 
Great way to train those that end up getting this to always touch the screen out of habit whenever they use a laptop... but in all seriousness, I don't think they should be diverting resources to something that very few people want to begin with. Not to mention the shortages due to the AI bubble having no foreseeable end.
 
Touchscreens in laptops have always sucked. But I wonder how much of that has come down to crappy implementations on Windows PCs.

Like… touchpads always sucked on laptops until Apple came along one day and… on MacBooks, they no longer sucked.

Maybe Apple will find a non-suck way to implement this
 
I said it before I will say it again. I don’t understand this insane desire for a touch screen on a laptop. I have only used a touch screen twice and I have had Microsoft Surface devices since they were released gen 1. It’s utterly pointless. And it makes my screen very messy. Even my iPad gets way too messy.

Well, then the M5 Pro/Max will probably be my final MacBook Pro. Even if they make the touchscreen optional, they will screw up MacOS for it. Hopefully the touchscreens will go the way of the touch bar, only faster.
 
Touchscreens on laptops are very common these days. (Sadly) It's never as useful as a normal tablet or smartphone (it's not very ergonomic). If apple would make a 2-in-1 with a screen that can be rotated and cover the keyboard closed, or just be rotated to the backside of the laptop. I could see this as something useful.
 
The last time I regularly used a touchscreen was in 2009 right before I left Windows behind permanently. I liked the ThinkPad X61, mainly for the stylus use. It was a great little machine to take written notes and drawings on. And I liked that the screen swiveled and covered the keyboard instead of just having an exposed keyboard underneath when in tablet mode. Don’t think I’d go back to a touchscreen laptop unless there was a way to use a stylus with it in tablet mode. And even then I’d likely rarely use it. As long as touchscreen is just an option on MBP that’s fine. Gives folks that like touchscreens an option.

Maybe this has been said, but I sort of presume that this is not the "macbook pro" getting two updates in a year.

This is a new set of optional hardware upgrades on top of the "regular" Macbook pro.

I want a better screen always. I use an XDR Pro as my primary display.

But I don't want a touch screen on my laptop--or if I do, I don't know it yet.

So, it would be classic Apple to bundle in some new fangled touch thing with the only way to get a better display at a much higher price point.

Then, in spring 2027, MBPs can get the better display with no touch screen as the base display.

You're not worried about gravity I bet? Just try holding out your arm long enough touching your current laptop screen.. The physics don't work.

The only way this works is like some other implementations where you can fold the keyboard back under the unit and then it can be laid down on the desk or lap...
