lol well im glad that i'm not the only one experiencing this. i've been having the same issue for the last few weeks.

EDIT: I've read that this is probably a problem with the magic trackpad update, and that maybe if you turn off bluetooth it will fix it.

Bluetooth isn't a fix, at least for me.

Mine's been off yet I get the issue at least twice a day.

I just had this problem appear in the last 3 day after getting my logic board replaced twice and my display replaced once. It only started after getting the repairs and the MBP hasn't been updated/alter before or since. Is it maybe hardware related somehow?

EDIT: Just booked a genius appointment after it happened 3 times in 10 minutes. Reset the PRAM and SMC after the second time but it happened again. Really frustrating after I have lost a combined 24 hours of work after repairs and problems.

I have the same issue. Like when i'm reading mcrumors, and move the cursor, the starts highlighting the stuff on the page. Then I click on he trackpad, the highlight goes away (like it should) then I move the cursor, and it highlights again. Its very annoying and does it in any App. Even on the desktop it does it.

But it goes away after 10 minutes of fighting with the trackpad.:p

I've been getting annoyed at this very same thing over the last few days. I was going to start a thread about it until I searched and saw this thread.

I have a five month old mid 15" 2009 MBP. I'm also clicking on things now that I never would have on a page.

Just turn off Dragging for One Finger in System Preferences-->Trackpad
I'll try this.

Same issue here. VERY ANNOYING.

Early this morning, I accidentally bought a movie in iTunes because of this. Apple has given me the refund of course but this seems like it's getting worse.

My track pad is just too sensitive now. I did turn off the drag setting and that has helped but it still doesn't stop me from accidentally clicking on links and things.

Did you mention/notify them why it happened?

Until Apple fixes the trackpad driver firmware, try using BetterTouchTool. It's free and you can tweak your trackpad settings to your liking. Also can add Windows 7 snapping to your Mac. Works awesome.

I found a temparory fix. When the trackpad keeps selecting things, don't physically click on the trackpad. Just lighty tap it... You must have Tap to Click turned on for this to work. But this make the trackpad work again. No reboot needed.

I disabled dragging and this "sticky trackpad dragging" problem went away.

YMMV

Same Problem

I get so frustrated, I literally run my hand across every key on my keyboard and it fixes the problem every time. Probably not the best thing for my computer but my anger management problems seems to have at least fixed one thing in my life.

I had the same issue after receiving my new 15" 5.3 few days ago compared with my older mbp which worked fine it was very frustrating not being able to hardly navigate my desktop let alone the internet.

I could not even double click to open or highlight :( plus it would just randomly lock onto windows and drag them without letting go. After messing around with my settings for hrs these seem to finally work for me still need to do some fine tuning I'm sure but for now I can finally use my computer again without all the annoying trackpad issues.

Editing the double click speed is what fixed most issues at least for me .
