I haven't had the problem since 10.6.5, and there are new Trackpad drivers in it (I should know, I had to redo my 3 Finger Drag again).

Solved for me!

I was experiencing some very similar problems... I couldn't click things, sometimes I was stuck dragging windows. Mostly it happened when I pulled my MBP out of the bag and started using it.

Then it dawned on me;

My Magic Mouse was still in the bag, turned on and was being pressed.

Now I'm in the habit of turning the mouse off when not using it... haven't had the problem since.

This was the answer for me. It never dawned on me until reading this. Thanks!

Sticky trackpad fix!

I had the same annoying as hell sticky trackpad issue but I seem to have found a solution:

Plug in a mouse to the computer and use the mouse instead of the trackpad for all clicking and dragging for a few days.

This seems to have solved the problem. Maybe it resets the trackpad in some way.

After a day or two with the mouse, return to the trackpad and it should work again.

The issues did come back with the trackpad after a few weeks but I did the mouse trick again and once again it fixed the sticky pad.

A few thoughts on the sticky pad issue. It is a software issue and NOT a hardware issue per Apple. Here are the fixes I read about and tried with NO success:

* place all five fingers on trackpad at same time

* reset PRAM

* clean track pad

* change trackpad settings in "preference" panel.

* and a few more I can't think of

basically I tried everything on all the board until I gave up and decided to use the mouse and inadvertently fixed it!

Well it's 2015 and...

This problem still persists. Everything was working fine until OS X 10.10.3 came out and now my trackpad is doing the same thing everyone else here has been discussing. Amazing that it has persisted this long. Disappointing. Anyone figure out a good fix for this?:confused:

(I'm using the Magic Trackpad, not a trackpad on the MacBook. Seems the issue is affecting both.)

I seem to have this problem when I put something on the trackpad like a notebook. From the way it's working it seems like a sensor on the trackpad (perhaps palm detection) is detecting objects on my trackpad and temporary disabling it. IF that's the case then Apple might need to be notified to fix their palm rejection or simply a something that cannot be avoided.

the mouse works a little differently than the track pad depending on what your trackpad setting are in system preferences
but the problem is still the same stuck on dragging and dropping giving enough taps on esc and the trackpad and mouse
