I have a five month old mid 15" 2009 MBP. I'm also clicking on things now that I never would have on a page.

Yes, in addition to the annoying "stuck selecting" state, I now often accidentally click while I'm two-finger scrolling. They really screwed up with this update.

Both of My Macs

Thanks for all the pointers.
I've turned off single point dragging and hope this helped.

The track pad sticking happens on my 15" mac book pro (1 month old), and 13" mbp (5 months old).
I installed the driver since I have the magic track pad. Mistake.

If I have an external mouse connected, I click the mouse and it fixes it. Or if I get the problem while using the external mouse, I click on the trackpad.
That fixes it.

Apple do something about it ....

Seeing the same behavior on 15" MBP. I think it started with the magic mouse update release.

Trackpad Stuck Issue - My Video Showing Issue

MACBOOK PRO 17inch HERE

So after totally flipping after I started seeing this issue a few weeks ago I took my laptop into the apple store. They replace the trackpad I brought it home and the issue still presented itself. It was quite annoying.

Then two days later I decided to add 8GB of RAM updgrade from 4GB. Well I have my mac doctor that I always take my machine in for small overhauls like the RAM upgrade. I had him wipe my OS and re-install it hoping that it would resolve the issue. The trackpad issue came back again the following day.

Hardware Replaced - Still intermittent Issues with Trackpad
NEW OS Re-install - Still intermittent Issues with Trackpad.

Really frustrated and any other insight on this issue would be great. Hoping that Apple discloses a fix for this issue.

I'm currently messing around with trackpad settings in hopes that I can have a stable system.

I just took my 4 month old 15" i7 Macbook Pro in for this issue yesterday. The Genius said I needed to replace the trackpad. So he's ordered the part, and I'm waiting on it's arrival before they get to work. But after finding this thread, I am not expecting a fix. I guess I'll go ahead and let them replace it anyway though. At least I'll have another few weeks of a trackpad without grease marks from my fingers.

I messed with my trackpad settings though, and things seem better already. Basically disabled dragging, as I really don't use that much anyway. I usually click to drag.

To the person who suggested using BetterTouchTools, that doesn't help. I was using it and disabled it thinking maybe that was my problem.

What is up with this and apple not making a fix for it immediately?!!!!:mad::mad: i'll end up killing my trackpad before this is fixed

If it doesn't work take it to the genius bar and I'm sure they'll do something to fix it.

Viable Workaround For Magic Trackpad *only*

This is NOT a hardware problem as this bug manifests for me even when I'm using my Intuos 4 mouse. Furthermore, the Trackpad System Preferences tweaks that some have recommended do not resolve this problem in the long run.

Until Apple gets their act together, Magic Trackpad users can avoid the horrid Force-Restart method by instead turning the trackpad off and then back on, or, worst case, remove the batteries and then re-insert. HTH.

I've had this happen about once a week for 2 or 3 mins or so for the last two months it seems like. But within the last week, it seems to do it 3 or 4 times a day for 10 mins or so at a time.

I have a 15 in i5, should i go ahead and call apple. or is this software related and that is a waste of my time.

OK, this is really bothering me, in that whole article, there isn't even a mention of the Early 2008 MacBook Pro.
It's as if there was no such thing as the Early 2008 MBP. Didn't the Magic Trackpad website also say that the Early 2008 was supported? I'm pretty sure it did.

I'm still not going to disable the touch drag thing, and whenever it happens, I double tap or secondary click with 2 fingers.

in for a fix soon I hope... this drives me nuts... the only way to fix it is a reboot. (for me anyway)

Try tapping once on the trackpad with 1 finger to get it to stop

Hello everyone
Got the same problem - very annoying as it usually happens just when I need to finish an important presentation.

While I have not found a way to systematically stop the problem, when it does arise I have found that if I tap the center of the trackpad once with one finger, the dragging/selecting stops and I can continue working.

(I did try turning off the 1-finger dragging, but that did not seem to systematically stop the problem - sometimes it would still happen.)

Good luck to everyone & hope Apple resolves this
Also - thanks to everyone for contributing

I found the solution!

ok so i don't know exactly what triggers the issue, but i do know how to fix it.

just take your finger, hold it on your trackpad for a few seconds (don't click, just put your finger on the trackpad) and it will go away. do it every time it starts selecting everything.

it's worked a few times already for me.

The Solution

I've recently found out the problem and solution. The problem is that you tapped the touchpad twice real fast. For example, you tapped the track pad with your index finger and then u tap it again wit your middle finger. This is like a glitch, i don't know why apple would make this so it has to be a glitch, and it drags everything.

The easiest solution is to do the exact same thing. Tap the touch pad with your index finger and release, and quickly touch the pad with your middle finger and release. Once your done, a small window will pop up that is the same thing as the right click window. After that the dragging should go away.

Another solution is to restart your computer. This always works, but its a drag.....

Good Luck!
