I was thinking more along the lines of them (really the 3rd party that Apple has handle) not honoring their original trade in number for some bogus reason - more hassle. That doesn't happen in the store and if it does, you know right then and there.
I’ve heard stories about this but you never know what’s really behind those stories. From my understanding if you have AppleCare the worst case scenario is you get billed for the $99. Of course worst case scenario not counting it gets stolen in shipment. Some of these complaints are likely people who mailed in their iPhones knowing it had damage without AppleCare and hoping it would just get accepted. When they didn’t get their quoted trade in amount for a broken phone they got upset and posted something online.

I actually had it happen to me once with Apple. In the end, they made good on the original quote because it was flawless - clerical error I'm sure. I think I read a year ago that Apple cracked down on their partner over this issue.

100% agree. Costing me $500 (after trade) or @$42/month to upgrade over last years phone - new features (a couple that I really like and they have nothing to do with the camera), new warranty, new battery, better screen, etc. Might be dumb, but I use the phone all day long, every day and I like latest and greatest...
Exactly! I like the latest and greatest but I really don’t need it. I have an iPhone XS Max as my backup iPhone and it works just perfectly. I could use that with the exception of battery life it would be fine. I would have to carry a small portable battery with me but that’s not a huge deal. If money got tight that’s what I would do but right now I can afford to upgrade.

If doing a trade-in while pre-ordering tomorrow do you have to have the serial number of your old phone ready?
They will probably (I do not work for Apple) require remote connection to the phone being traded in so they can remotely check out the phone's electronics. If you can do that you should also be able to access the serial number easy enough.

Wow. The iPhone a bought one year ago for ~ $1300 is only worth $470 to Apple. Makes perfect sense.
What iPhone did you pay $1300 for last year that’s only worth $470 now? My iPhone 13 Pro max I bought last year has a $720 trade-in. Of course maybe that’s only in the USA

That’s crazy! Yeah there’s always a risk for error especially when you’re dealing with so much volume. I can’t imagine how many iPhones are sent for trade in. I know there has to be a warehouse somewhere where they’re stacked on pallets six feet tall.

I wonder if they’re going to do anything for trade ins on the iPhone 14. The only thing I see on the Verizon website is put your email in there for notification to pre order. I’m not sure what the point of that is because I know when it’s coming out and it even says it right next to the box to enter your email…

I would do the Verizon trade-in if they offered me $720 which is what Apple is offering plus a little bill credit. I won’t do the whole stretch it over 24 payments so when I decide to upgrade in 12 months I only get half 😂

Try going through the Apple website. Once you enter in your trade in, they show the additional carrier deals. For my trade I saw nothing on the Verizon website, but going through the Apple website, they added on the special carrier deal to bring the trade value to $599 from $470. My new mini arrives today along with the trade-in package to send my 13 to Apple.

On the Apple website it just gives me two buttons. One that says “Select a smartphone” and the other “No trade in”. If I click to select a Smartphone one then I get a drop down menu to pick the model. It doesn’t show anything about carrier deals but maybe it’s too early.

Edit: I found another page where it says I can get $800 but that’s over 36 months so no way 😂. That’s only $80 more than what Apple would give me a right up front. Maybe they will change it as it comes closer to the date

You might think these are bad prices but consider any electronic you own for a year and the company would give you back 50% ish for it?

Ebay barely returns this. My time is valuable and I often let apple take it because it is so convienient. You get to keep your current phone to make sure the transfer is smooth.
Yes VZW gave instant $800 for an $1100 device, so 72.7%, plus installment credits. I mean 18 will be lost if you trade yearly, but some of it would add to that instant amount.

On September 24, 2021 (from the Apple online store) I purchased a 512GB iPhone 13 & Apple Care+ for total of $1380.47. This was in America.
That’s because you bought three years of AppleCare. Also what’s hurting you is the larger storage capacity. It’s unfortunate that Apple doesn’t give more for the AC or storage but you’re going to find out even if you try to sell it privately you’re not going to get more because of that either. Of course you can get more than $470 from a private party if you’re willing to take the risk.

Feel like that has changed for this year. I did the pre-order in the App today and it says I will have a choice to mail in or bring to the store. I feel like that choice is made once the order actually goes in at 8AM EST tomorrow. A welcome change as I would much rather finalize the trade number in person.
Same option was given last year

Apple trade-in value for iPhone is decent. For Watch, on the other hand, not so much.

Also, if you usually buy lower storage iPhone (128 or 256), then Apple trade-in is beneficial because they disregard storage.
By contrast, if you usually buy higher storage iPhone (512 or 1024), then Apple trade-in is less beneficial.

But the biggest benefit of Apple trade-in is your peace of mind, no scams, no fraud, no stress. You know you're in good hands.
Yup. I trade in with Apple every year. A few extra bucks aren't worth the hassle of selling elsewhere.

You can also get a pro-rated refund on unused AppleCare as that has no relevance with the trade in. You should factor that in.

I didn’t know that! Right now on my 13 I’m paying monthly but I might just get the regular one time payment on the 14th then just get the money back if I trade in for the 15.

Yeah. Hermes $150. Come on now apple. I’ll sell it. Also, cracked back on 1tb 13 pro max is a recycle. You know they will replace it and sell it as reconditioned for hundreds.
