I’ve heard stories about this but you never know what’s really behind those stories. From my understanding if you have AppleCare the worst case scenario is you get billed for the $99. Of course worst case scenario not counting it gets stolen in shipment. Some of these complaints are likely people who mailed in their iPhones knowing it had damage without AppleCare and hoping it would just get accepted. When they didn’t get their quoted trade in amount for a broken phone they got upset and posted something online.I was thinking more along the lines of them (really the 3rd party that Apple has handle) not honoring their original trade in number for some bogus reason - more hassle. That doesn't happen in the store and if it does, you know right then and there.
