I would say that customer service comes into my thinking too. Where's the nearest Dell Store with a Genius Bar which will swap my faulty hardware no questions asked?

If it is under warranty you can return any defective product by mail. I agree that is nice to interact with a real person but at the end when my powerbook broke (out of warranty) the only thing they did was to take it and ship it for repair in the same way any other company would have done.

I think that apple is a special case even in this context. For hears they hammered in people's head ideas like: 'we can provide the best systems in the world...', 'windows is crap....', etc... just look at the I am a mac campaign. It was really catchy. Apple is a company that needs a lot of hype to stay alive.

I think that hype can only take you so far. The hype may bring some people in, but it's the quality, customer service, etc...that keep people coming back.

Indeed. Don't even bother with the Geek Squad and the like. However, there are a ton of small businesses out there that fix your computer so you can give them a try, I suppose. That's one of the many advantages of owning a PC, anyone can fix it. Although now that Macs essentially are PCs (that cost thousands more lol) with a cute case, that point may then be invalid.

I think that apple products have excellent built quality, apple customer service works fine and apple laptops have 8h battery life; besides these 3 elements apple laptops performance are in the same league of a cheaper pc laptop. What needs to be understood is if someone really need all of those, if they justify the higher price.
PC laptops have good built quality, no unibody, but they are good enough to be durable like macs.
PC laptops can provide 4h of battery life that in my opinion are plenty for normal users.
I can not talk about customer service because all the laptops I had never had hardware issues I could not solve by myself

the problem is that Fiat and mercedes have different engine, body, etc... Here we have the same engine but different car bodies that do not differ so much to justify the increased price.

The value of a product is subjective and relative. What might be expensive to you may be peanuts to me. I find the value of Apple products reasonable for the enjoyment and utility that they serve while I have a friend that thinks they are too expensive, but he still wants to purchase Apple but can not afford it. The history is that I have a very nice salary that affords me the chance to purchase whatever i want while my friend makes less. Our perceptions of value are similar (Apple products have carry a high value component) while there are huge differences in our salaries, the value of the Apple product is relative to how much we each earn. For me, the iPad (as an example) is not over-priced while to my friend it is.

You value perceptions only pertain to you and your opinion.

I agree with your argument regarding the value perception. If you are rich and like apple products go for it. I hope the case and battery make your working day more productive.

Works for me (especially if buying refurb).

Let this be a lesson to you in the value of a good brand image (not hype).

I owned apple products but I always felt ripped off by what I was using just by looking at the equivalents in the PC world. In some cases better specs (not the case and battery) and a more flexible system for a significant lower price.
I do not mean that apple products are bad, as I said they are excellent, I just do not think that a case and a battery justify the increased cost.

I now hate this thread. It's full of Mac vs. PC bashing crap - and it's supposed to be an iPad thread! Thanks a lot, mKTank and Krelian8!

Trolls?

Yes, we're arguing for something you don't believe in, we surely must be trolls.

I've been in meetings for a day six laptops three ipads present at meetings. all of us took notes shared files thru dropbx used logmein etc. 5 of those laptops were win doze. WE ALL GOT ALONG

when this thread first started a op was getting rid of his iPad because it did not do what he thought. I think that's perfectly fine. if it didn't do what I needed it I'd can it in a sec.

I love my macs for some objective and subjective means. I use about 5computers one of which is a pc. this thread borders on the inane, IMO.

who cares what we use if it gets the job done. if there were the perfect device we'd all buy it

Trolls?

Maybe I am a troll who knows, think the way you want. The title of the thread is:

"trading my iPad for Windows tablet!"

What should have we discussed about? This thread started to turn Mac vs PC after few posts if then people stopped being part of it is not mKTank or my problem.

Come on guys....

Wow. Another reason I shouldn't join your crummy argument. Seriously. It's that stupid.

I like fruit. You like vegetables.

It would be better to say that we like vegetables and you like fruits with a core of vegetables.

When it comes to laptops, specs are 90% of what you should consider. The last 10% is build quality and with companies like Dell, Asus, and even Acer making some really sturdy offerings lately, you can't complain about the build quality. Contrary to popular belief (although at 10%, it's not too popular,) a shiny metal unibody isn't worth an extra thousand dollars.

Don't forget language lessons for whatever it is that they speak in India. No, specs ARE NOT 90% of what you should consider. Jealous that the air smokes your overweight icore 90 % of the time? Hmmm.....

Wat.

You seriously saying that the POS air would outperform my Inspiron?

Oh lawd. I guess you're pretty well in character though. How representative of your community.

i'm sure construction, fit and finish, and attention to detail (in software and hardware - unless you don't use ANY software on your computer) don't matter in the real world. just ask anyone who's ever wanted a nicer car. otherwise we'd all be driving ford pinto dump trucks.

I totally agree. This Mac vs. PC crup is so 2003.

I mean, can't we all just get along? Agree to disagree... as well as to gang up on the anti-iPad ******s and thoroughly humiliate them??? That would be so much more satisfying, I think.

Mac vs. PC is over, and we all won. Everyone be happy with your own personal (computer) orientation. But the people who think iOS has even a faint competitor in the tablet market are truly deluded. Let's verbally punch them silly until they run away like the sad little trolls that they are. heh heh heh

I've had my iPad now for about 3 months and for the most part i like it but Im finding that alot of basic functionality just isn't there.*

Like for instance I wanted to upload a PDF to a website and found that safari disables the upload button?!*No java or flash? also the lack of any kind of file system is a big pain. I dont like the idea a having to go through iTunes for everything. *

Unless Apple seriously beefs up it's iOS, I think I'll trade in for a windows 7 tablet :apple: **

To each their own. But you knew that there was no flash/ java. Also there are plenty of apps that store and manage files and can upload them.

Check out goodreader.

No. Since when does the iPad run Mac OS X? That statement right there proves my point. :p

It started when some idiots started recommending the Air, which does run OS X. Not surprised that you can't read, which proves my point. Point number one, that is.

I can read, thank you very much. :p Still, this is an iPad thread, and the MacBook Air/ Windows tablet is different than the iOS debate. Whoever suggested the Air should move his conversation (and yours) into the MacBook Air Thread (https://forums.macrumors.com/forums/122/).
