Just upgraded my Mid 2012 MBA, works great.

Anyone finds that it's a bit slow to wake from sleep?

Same here - Mid 2012 15" Pro upgraded without problems.

But there is a new latency after you see the logon screen and the point where you can enter your password when you wake from sleep. This is new after the upgrade

Yup! Minor annoyance cause sometimes I'm not sure whether I left it to sleep or I turned it off. Apparently it applies to other computers/SSD changes as well:

So far, so good - Battery impact?

I just copied everything over using Disk Utility and installed the 960GB model into my 15" Mid-2012 rMBP. It seems to fit just fine. TRIM was not enabled by default. I used the Transcend tool to enable it. I chose my startup disk so that my machine boots up immediately. Everything looks good.

It appears that my battery is draining faster. I charged fully overnight and after one hour of web surfing, my battery is at 80%. I don't remember it draining that quickly, but I did not do any testing before I swapped the drive out.

My unit was ordered two years ago today, has 16GB of RAM, Core i7, and previously had the 768GB SSD. Maybe my battery is just getting old, like me.

Anyone else notice any difference in battery life?

Anyone figure out what the mysterious rubber pad is for?

^ FYI for anyone wondering why there is a latency coming from deep sleep, this user hit the nail on the head. TRIM must be enabled (Use the JetDrive Toolbox) and your JetDrive must be set as the primary boot device or you will see a reduction in access speeds. The less available space there is in your SSD with TRIM disabled, the more obvious these post-boot nagging issues become.

If anyone has any questions or needs support, feel free to post on here, send a PM, or send an email to TechSupport-US@Transcend-info.com.:D

Already done both from the beginning. I've swapped drives before and I'm aware of the latency post boot if you don't select the drive as the primary startup drive.

I'm experiencing latency when you wake the computer from sleep, it seems to be an issue with the operating system from what I can tell on Apple discussions, it's not limited to Transcend SSDs or Macbook Airs. Kindly look at -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5630101?start=15&tstart=0

I appreciate the information. I had a user who was experiencing screen flicker issues when coming out of deep sleep as well as disk latency; this was solved by enabling TRIM and restarting. It certainly isn't a cure all, but its worth a shot to those who haven't enabled TRIM, especially if your drive is heavily populated. If anyone has any helpful information, please feel free to update me. :D

re-indexing?

could the drive be re-indexing? After a new drive upgrade, often this will happen and that can really impact battery performance till it is finished.

thanks to everyone....

.....for this information, I have a Mid 2012, 15" rMBP, 16BG RAM, i7 & 768SSD etc... and hammer it mercilessly with Photoshop CC, Lightroom 5 and FCPX. Because of the heat this baby generates with a heavy work flow I've been thinking about replacing the SSD and now there's a 950GB out there :D way cool. I've lost 2 MBP HD's but not from this computer and never a SSD but to give it some longevity I'll be buying one of these 950GB SSD, AWESOME!!!

Oh I'm bad in the tech talk, what is TRIM and has anyone figured out how to get more than 16GB of RAM into a Mid 2012 15" rMBP yet. I'd kill for 32GB but I do know they're soldered in.

Cheers Paul

Amazon doesn't list the 2012 rMBP as comparable, am I missing something?

is this correct version for 15"?

Hey digitalfax I found it.

We all seem to have the same computer Mid 2012 15" rMBP but they have seemed to work for some I think. I found this reply from them re the release of the ones for our MAC and didn't read on but I think I got it right, so I see what you mean now, it shouldn't work but it looks like it does for some by accident????

If I'm right TraanscendInfo are you releasing one for the Mid 2012 rMBP late June early July?

Hello cbs20,
Our updated PCB is in production and should be ready within a month. We'll be creating a new part number for it (JDM725) as well.

Flowrider, thank you for that information, I appreciate it very much.

To clarify what's going on...

. I'll PM TranscendInfo to make sure there's one in production for our machines in the very near future

I never really post here, but just wanted to say that I (surprisingly) received my 960GB model today and was able to install it just fine. It fit with a very small amount of space to spare. Screwed everything back in and so far so good.

My Retina Macbook Pro is from the very first batch (Mid-2012).

Well this sounds promising but they're not on that list someone posted. I'm going to look throughout their website now. I WANT ONE.

My understanding that is the 960GB variant fits in SOME 15" Mid-2012 Retina MBPs, but not all of them. Therefore, Transcend (wisely) took the 15" off the compatibility list while they are retooling the PCB so that it will fit in all of the 15" Mid-2012's. I did not know this when I bought the drive, but got lucky that it fit in my 15" MBP.

I'll still battling battery life. I even did a PRAM and SMC reset.

I may do some scientific testing this weekend between my old 768GB from Apple and the new 960GB. I just hate dealing with all the screws.

To TranscendInfoLA re the new Mid 2012 15" rMBP

Hi I'm Paul and I think I've found the confusion hitting the end of this thread in regards to 15" Mid 2012 rMBP's.

It's been so very confusing walking into the end of this but now I understand, and no I'm not being smart because I really want one of these. I think you've handled this very well and have been open and honest about it because some people can actually use this model but it needs to be placed in carefully. I'm not stirring the hornets nest. I see that's been sorted and done with but the sentence below contradicts itself, but it's not meant to, it's describing how some can install it. I understand where you're coming from now. Anyhow I'm very excited about the new ones we can now purchase for our computer. Am I correct in saying they'll be referred to as (JDM725) I will be buying one but this was the first returned search to me, from your site, maybe someone should re-word it?

Why can't I install TS480GJDM720 to MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012?

As the assembly arround the socket of MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012 hinders the installation of JetDrive, we suggest you to slightly adjust the angle of the JetDrive after plugging into the socket.

I'm pretty straight forward but mean no ill will and I'm greatly awaiting the release of the new model. Oh will it have a thunderbolt port in it by chance? That would be worth the wait.

If you're with Transcend, could you comment on my increased battery usage (decreased battery life) since going from the Apple 768GB SSD to the JetDrive 720 960GB model? I love the space, but the power drain seems to be about twice as fast. I'm trying to summon up the courage to do some testing, then swap my old unit back in, and do some more testing.

Yeah - this is what I was talking about with respect to battery life.

With the JetDrive Installed, fresh boot, full charge, and surf the web for a few minutes until the "Remaining" time shows, maxes out at 4:09. I put the original 768GB drive back in my Mac, did a PRAM and SMC reset, let it charge for a few hours, and repeated the "fresh boot, full charge, surf...". "Remaining" time maxes out at 6:24. And that's about how the life works out between the two drives. Quite a difference using the two drives.

Hello runbuh,
We performed some experiments in house and came to the conclusion that in order to get a correct estimation of remaining battery life, the system needs to be on for at least 30 minutes.

If you look at the battery life after just a few minutes, the system doesn't have enough data to correctly estimate the remaining battery life.

This is true with both the stock SSD and with our JetDrive SSDs.

We went a step further and measured power consumption on a test bed and found that our JetDrive SSDs actually have slightly lower power consumption than the stock SSDs.

I ordered my TS960GJDM420 back on May 1st (got a great price!), installed it a couple of weeks ago in my late-2011 13" MBP, and everything went smooth as butter. Couldn't be happier! :D
