Re: the new trailer - the effects, animation and action look amazing. The acting and script look and sound pretty bad.

So that's a typical Michael Bay film then, right? ;)

Shouldn't Bumblebee be a VW Beetle?

There's a nod to the original form of a VW when he picks up the Camaro. A yellow beetle is right next to it.

However, I don't get how that Camaro is a 1970's model that then becomes a yet-to-be-launched GM concept car.

Also, there's a line in there which doesn't make sense at first: "they can imitate anything they choose." I guess that could mean they don't have one particular form and choose it according to surroundings/environment? Does that mean they came to earth as some other lifeform? If so, what?!

Starscream and Prime look the nuts though - flames or no flames!

Well, I guess we can't expect them to leave everything exactly the same as the old show. I just hope they don't stray too much from the fundamentals and ruin things as a result. Although I suppose some would argue it's already too late for that... ;)

Oh, I don't expect that, nor would I want that... The cartoon sucked! (although I did watch it religiously)

The character from the toys and the comics and every other offshoot that I've seen, bumblebee's been a spy. I remember issue 1 and 2 (and maybe a couple more) of the comics had them all drawn like the figures. Then they changed to look like the cartoons... Which I can understand from an artists perspective... much easier to draw. I don't mind a few changes here and there... But if you're gonna change it that much, might as well call it "Battling Seizure Robots" or something :)

So, I'm watching the new trailer again and it got me thinking. If this has been said before then I apolgise but aren't they robots that turn into cars/machines not the other way round? As in their natural state on their home planet is as a robot? Why would they transform into Earth based vehicles?

Yeah, but it's essentially "scripture" to many of us, as cheesy as it may be - it's the origin of the Transformers universe and is ingrained in many of our childhood memories. I used to watch it religiously and had so many of the toys... great memories... ;)

I suppose, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something very obvious as to why robots from another planet transform into an American muscle car. I sure the plot will make sense.;)

To blend in, they transform to camouflage.

They think that cars and planes, being large and metal, are also transformers like themselves - humans don't exist on Cybertron.

just watched the trailer again, and had some thoughts i had to put somewhere:

im finding it hard to find info on what is going to be only my own remembrance and suppositions. i think this is how ep 1 of the animated 80s series went, but without the DVD im pulling this outta my butt.

here goes...

Autobots leave cybertron amongst a war with the Decepticons, who follow them. spaceship fight ensues, both crippled crash to earth like a bazillion years ago.

some volcano awakens the autobots spaceship computer. which sends out probes to see indigenous life. it finds cars among other things and returns to upload the info to the computer. the computer restarts the dormant robots with this info. (sort of like the Futurama episode where Bender becomes a penguin because its what he sees as the only life around, and he needs to blend). coincidentally, the same thing happens to the decepticon ship, only its probe finds airplanes and guns or something...

this explains why in the 80s animated movie, on Cybertron, no one looks like cars or anything other than humanoid robots. its only when on earth and restarted as indigenous lifeforms, they look like cars and whatnot.

and so begins the struggle again for energy on this rock called Earth.

if i recall, humans barely ever were in the series, except spike and his lame-o dad. as a kid i never really wondered why humans never came to investigate the huge robots, explosions, ships etc. maybe im wrong, but i really dont think humans made it in the show much.

so this brings me to the movie.

which, from the trailer, looks like the decepticons have come to earth to kill humans, and for some reason autobots care about us enough to fight along our side?

wtf is that crap?

i mean, make ANOTHER movie and call it "Giant Robot Death Machines Came One Day to Kill Us All" instead of Transformers, when it doesnt follow one friggen iota of the backstory or lore involved....

i'm looking forward to this movie

Me too. The trailers look amazing, the reviews coming out are generally good (good spectacle, popcorn film, amazing FX etc etc) and my 33 year old brother and I have booked to see it on opening night next thursday - and Gold Class no less!!! Can't wait! :D

P.S. All the haters can go to hell.

rather be there than watching a movie sh*t on the entire story-line. id be commenting the whole movie like a complete jerk, and since I hate those people in movies, I just wont go.

i say again, why use Transformers, and not use the baggage they come with? making it up on your own negates needing the title Transformers!

Because they want to get the teen market and that's why they sex things-up.
All the teenage boys want to do the leading lady hottie and all the teenage girls want to saved by the geeky, yet buff guy.:D

hell yeah I plan on seeing it opening day on july 4th. I have been looking forward to this movie since i first found out about it 4 years ago. 4 years ago I read that it was in the planning stages and they planned on doing it. From that day on I been keeping an eye on it looking very strongly forward to it.

I was born in 1983 and started watching transformers I would say around 4-5 years old and always loving it. I grew up on it and it always been one of my favorite shows. Generation 1 transformers being the best.

sex is a big turn off for me, makes me want to avoid the movie. seeing half naked females is just disgusting and a way to lose viewers. and plus, it demands women to being boy toys, and i don't want to get into it here.

and besides, this movie looks so little like the cartoons.

the reason WHY Generation 1, and the actual storyline of the entire Transformers franchise, is best is because it makes alot more sense than anything from this Bay abortion.

humans and transformers dont mix well, this is as bad and dare I say worse than the Jurassic Park 2 disaster....the 2nd book while ok at least didnt say "HEY lets put a t-rex in downtown LA! Awesome I love it! Wears my margarita!?" and the 3rd movie had no book basis at all, both movies, total crap.

when a director takes creative license with an established franchise, it always goes straight to hell.

where im going i guess.

you are refusing to even give it a chance. There are something I do not agree with in this movie. Like Ratchet being a Humvee instead of ambulance. one of the desipicons being a police car ect. But also from what I seen they are trying to stick with the core of the transformers.

A few things are at the core. They come to earth and force earth to get involved in their war and drag humans into it against their will. They take on earth vechicals and so on.

One thing about transformers is it does allow for a lot of different choices and it not goign to have to stick with the orginal G1 story line because look at all the other versons of transformers over the years. They all start from the same basic point and move on from there in their own way.

The director happen to be a transformer fan growing up. He choose G1 because that was where it all started and going back to those roots and in a lot of ways the target aduince is guess what in there 20's/ earily 30's. We where the group that rememeber going up on transformers. We are the group that started Bot Con. We are the group that love the show growing up and we are the ones who are mostly likely going to want to see it.

All the CGI in the world can't explain away a HUGE plot point that doesnt seem addressed at all.

How or why do the Autobots/Decepticons look like Earth/Human vehicles when, one would assume, aliens don't look at all like us...

And from the trailer it is worded, people speaking, as if the Decepticons came to Earth to destroy humans, Autobots just feel bad for us?

Maybe Bay will have the robots come to earth and do what they did in the 1st ep of the cartoon; send out probes and become "indigenous" to earth things like cars and planes. But that remains to be seen.

umm it not a plot hole. If you look at the orginal G1 transformers they explain it. (and I am going to assume they will do the same here) they crash land on earth. Then from there they choose a form to copy. Some mechanical device.

Prime choose a Semi, Some choose a tank. Fighter jets ect.

It is not a plot hole. In the first transformers and I know in beast wars the first episode shows how they end up with the forms they did.

I am going to guess they will follow the orginl story of the transformers. Cyberton is a dead/dieing planet. The Autobots left it to go find a place elsewhere to live. The decipicons attack the Ark and it crash landed on earth. It will follow that format some how.

So as I said before you are refusing to give it a chance. The trailer is not showing that part of the movie and they are trailers. That part more than likely does not contain any huge amount of action or deliver the basic plot of the story. It is a waste of time and any transformer fan would know how the forms are pick any how.

The trailer did stick true that bumble bee end up running into one of the humans first kind like he did. Sorry I know the orginal comics and the orginal transformers. I love the transformers. Honestly give it a chance before you start trashing it. The stuff you listed on why it going to suck which a plot hole is just screaming the fact you refuse to give it a chance.

Also the speaking part in the trailers do not show the Dec came to earth to destory humans. It shows what the humans look like is happening and they are being attack by machines who are on earth for the resource and humans are getting in the way. They did not come to earth orginally to kill humans. Just takes knowing the story of transformers. Think about it. The humans would not know the real reason they are earth or being attack. All they know is they are being attack so yeah they will go to war to keep themselves alive. It is not like Megatron to tell the humans why they are attacking.

Oh, please. It's the Transformers. The description you provided is NOT what a character Bible for the Transformers would contain, and is therefore irrelevant. Where were the complainers during the march of the horrible, horrible cartoon series like "Armada", "Energon" and "Cybertron". It was so nauseating to me, I couldn't even entertain the idea of watching them. Why? Not because they were trying something new and different, but because they didn't understand the characters. At one point they had Megatron/Galvatron Transforming into a dragon and a large hand. Where was the fan outrage there?

Being true to the original Transformers concept, is NOT about repeating the same storyline ad nauseum (I want to shake people who think this), its about sticking true to the CORE CONCEPT of who these characters are. Protectors vs. Predators.:

1.) Autobots: Peaceful, fighting a losing battle on Cybertron, end up on Earth
2.) Decepticons: War mongers, will do anything to dominate, control, and destroy in acquiring power. The must be stopped at all cost. "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."
3.) Optimus Prime: The first true soldier in the battle against the Decepticons. His character is the quintessential definition of self-sacrifice, evident in his memorable jet-pack flight in the first episode, right down to his climactic, though temporary "death" in the movie.
4.) Megatron: The despotic leader of a depraved battalion of invaders. "Lesser creatures are the playthings of my will."
5.) Prime vs. Megatron: "One shall stand, and one shall fall."

Compare the designs:

If you pick the originals as something you'd prefer seeing in live-action, its clear that you watch too much Nicolodean.

These are Autobot vs. Decepticon battles like we've NEVER seen... (not lame ass, save-money-on-animation, laser-fights, where nobody really moves around).

I can't see how anyone doesn't see how this is not only going to BE the new standard for Transformers, but that its going to be fun!

I've been having to turn off series after series of lame retreads of the Transformers. Enjoy the past for what it was. Laugh it up even. Just don't insist that everyone else lives in it.

Old Transformers Parody:

Recently, I saw a clip from the new video game that had Prime running over rooftops before intercepting Megatron in the air. You can tell its going to be a battle royale, and it will all come down to Megatron pulling out a mace, and Optimus Prime going toe-to-toe with him in fights CGI professionals are making themselves crazy over. :)

Just fantastic:

Oh, please. It's the Transformers...Snip

All very well said. Also, there are many things in the original cartoons that were ridiculous such as soundwave being a walkman, Megatron being a handgun and prime being an articulated truck, yet they're all the same size when robots. But, because we were five years old at the time it didn't matter.

And it's not like the dialect in the cartoons was all oscar-worthy, or the original drawings were minutely detailed pieces of art (though they are art, if you get what I mean). From what I've seen of the film so far, it looks like they've used some genuine and key elements of the series and added what's been needed to make a modern film, plus the CGI looks unbelievable - game-chaning in fact - and overall it's set to be a blast.

I just wish people who loved the series when young and are now grown up can't take this film and enjoy it for what it's going to be, rather than bash it before they've seen it, criticise points that are irrelevant and really just kick up a fuss over nothing (like plot holes that aren't plot holes, and saying there's plot holes even before they've seen the film...).

It's a film about good and evil, big fighting robots from a fantastical planet, that's based on a near-30 year-old cartoon and comic series and that's been made with a big budget that they have to recoup. What are people seriously expecting from it - something heavy along the lines of Monsters Ball or Shawshank redemption?!

I agree with Sdashiki --- this preview looks crap, and it doesn't look like Transformers at all. This is essentially a movie about robots landing on earth, except they're using the Transformer name as a way to sell it.

I'm going to watch it anyway, but I really don't think they needed to call this movie "Transformers." They could have called it something else and saved us fans the pain of watching the Transformer story butchered.

And I really hope to hear robots talking, and not too many humans.
