 I really don't see the point for this, but that's just me. I think I have maybe used my iPad camera 3-4 times in total. But I guess this is the direction Apple is headed. Thank goodness my 11" will last me several more years.

That is weird, if true, who on Earth takes high resolution pictures with an iPad? Way heavier, awkward to hold and align than any iPhone.

I use my iPad Pro at my work a lot. One of the use cases is capturing contents of whiteboards at a meeting and annotating them later. But, one high resolution camera is more than enough for this. In what kind of world you need 3 different focal lengths for such an device is a mystery to me. I really can't come up with anything...

I guess it's.. an AR thingy? *shrug*

I can't think of much to complain about if this proves accurate. Personally I have never once used the rear camera on any of my iPads...

The higher pricing of the new camera module alone might give you a good reason to complain, especially coupled with your following sentence of not needing to use any iPad rear camera.

I have also tried taking photos of whiteboards straight from the Notes on iPad, but it was such a nuisance that later on I just took them all with an iPhone, inserting them in later on.

I highly doubt this due to cost VS use.
Although, the smallest iPad pictured got my attention. That looks like it's not much larger than a mini. In fact a bezel-less iPad mini would fit an 8,5" screen. Just hoping for a "Pro mini"... ;P

Awkward to hold: Yes
to align: better than an iPhone.
In fact iPads give you a much better "live view" than iPhones, simply by their display size, making it significantly easier to see what's in focus and what not.

I wonder how many use the rear camera on the iPad at all. I'm on my 4th tablet now and I don't think I've taken a single photo with any of them. I would be happy to do away with the rear camera, and hence camera bump, all together for an improved front facing camera any day.
I have used the camera on mine only a handful of times - mainly because my iPhone wasn’t in reach. Otherwise I’d have no complaints if it wasn’t there at all.

Why? The last ones were released in October of 2018. I'd think the new ones would be Sept/Oct of 2019. One full year.
That really hasn't been the approach historically though. See here:

Perhaps this has been brought forward (from the previously rumoured Spring 2020 date) to allow them to introduce an OLED iPad with ToF sensor and 5G in October 2020

Yeah, I'd do this more often if the iCloud sync would work more reliably. Is it only me, or do you guys also have often problems that pictures take hours to days to be uploaded into the cloud? Sometimes I have my phone at the charger, with WiFi access and yet still the upload doesn't progress...

I really don’t like those use camera bumps. I do use my camera in the iPad Pro, I print documents sign them and use the iPad notes to scan them and send them out. Pretty handy since I don’t have to go to the computer all the time for it.

For me it's mainly for scanning documents

I have the current iPad Pro 11" and the only complaint I have about the device is the camera bump. I couldn't care less about the quality of iPad's back camera. They could put 5 on the back and I'd still hate it for the bump.
With the case the bump is flush with the case.

This might be nice for the phones, but I rarely use my iPad camera for anything besides taking snapshots of whiteboards or scanning docs. I can’t see the value of a fancy camera on this device.

Me too, nothing making me want to move from my 10.5" pro yet

Just upgraded mine, mainly because Apple is giving me $310 from my 10.5 and I am running out of space, but the 11" is crazy light and liking having the same gestures as my iPhone X.

Sure. Maybe, maybe not. In any event it's unlikely to be cheaper, and I'm never going to be in a position to calculate what the price would otherwise have been. Plus I live in the UK so I'm quite well accustomed to paying an absolute fortune for Apple products. When I feel the time has come to get a new Pro, whenever that may be, I will buy it irrespective of the rear camera.

I will upgrade. I am happy with my current Pro, but the cost to upgrade will be minimal. I am hoping for a better smart keyboard case with a trackpad, but I may need to move to the 12.9 for that to become reality.

I wouldn’t have expected anything different from you. Lol.

Is taking high-end photos with an iPad a thing? I’m really asking. I’m trying to imagine a use case for a three-lens camera in a foot-diagonal tablet, but I’m struggling.

Never liked the camera bump and the iPhone X style long bump, but certainly do not like this huge black void.

I see people taking iPad pictures all the time but sometimes I forget my iPad even has a camera.

Oh god, please no... Please make the rear camera pill-shaped so I can keep my Smart Keyboard Folio for the 2019 iPad Pro.

Not likely. When i got my new iPad mini 5 I noticed they moved the buttons and mic just enough so they don't line up with the old case.

If true, the iPad Pro's life cycle has been reduced significantly. Weren't we expecting these Spring 2020 at the earliest?

Quite.

Apple hasn't updated its third-generation iPad Pro lineup since October 2018 and its 9.7-inch entry-level iPad since March 2018, so we can reliably expect both to get some sort of refresh soon.

A bit over the top - last October is only 10-months back, I still think of my iPad Pro as being 'my new iPad'. Appreciate that this site is in the business of whipping up a little frenzy, but that's a bit daft.
