Just upgraded mine, mainly because Apple is giving me $310 from my 10.5 and I am running out of space, but the 11" is crazy light and liking having the same gestures as my iPhone X.

My 10.5 has the same gestures as my iPhone XS Max, but I take you're point.

I never use the back camera on my Ipad. I find it awkward to hold for photos. But I'd love a better front facing camera. Maybe even one on the side so I don't have to use my Ipad upright for facetime. It sits so nicely on its side with the keyboard.

Will they reintroduce the OIS feature on these triple cameras *if* they go ahead in the future on iPad Pro?

Just wondered as they had to remove it in last years update didn’t they?

Seems silly to put a triple lens on an iPad. I guess they have to give some other incentive to upgrade since the 2018 pro was such a mammoth update.

But honestly I rarely use my iPAd camera for much other than facetime and the occasional pic around the house.

Apple's next-generation iPad could gain a dual-lens rear camera while the next iPad Pro range could get a triple-lens array, according to a rumor out of China.

Japanese blog Mac Otakara cited a Chinese supply source over the weekend claiming the fourth-generation 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro devices will get the same multi-sensor array widely rumored to be coming to Apple's next iPhone range this year.

Meanwhile, Apple's rumored new version of its entry-level iPad - a device with a slightly bigger 10.2-inch screen than the existing 9.7-inch model - will inherit the dual lens setup currently seen in the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

The new iPads will launch in October, claims Mac Otakara's source, who also said that diagrams of related accessories are "floating around," but they declined to specify whether they are Apple accessories or third-party ones.

Apple hasn't used dual-lens rear camera modules in any iPad, let alone triple-lens arrays, so bringing the multi-sensor systems to three new models in the same year would be a first for the company.

In a February research note, respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple plans to release two new iPad Pro models, a 10.2-inch iPad, and a refreshed iPad mini this year. A month later, Apple released an upgraded iPad mini in March alongside a new 10.5-inch iPad Air.

Apple hasn't updated its third-generation iPad Pro lineup since October 2018 and its 9.7-inch entry-level iPad since March 2018, so we can reliably expect both to get some sort of refresh soon. Whether they will have the sort of multi-sensor cameras that are usually the preserve of smartphones is a different matter.

Rumors suggest Apple's next-generation 6.5-inch and 5.8-inch OLED iPhones will feature triple-lens rear cameras (with wide-angle, super wide-angle, and telephoto lenses), while the successor to the iPhone XR will feature a dual-lens camera with a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens.

8GB of RAM only available with 1 terabit Hard Drive, I suppose?

I have no plans to upgrade my 11” ipad pro for a triple camera...but i would LOVE for Apple to include an ipad mini Pro with a triple lens camera. I use my ipad mini 5 as a camera a lot as it is the ipad that is always with me.

Interesting. I can't think of much to complain about if this proves accurate. Personally I have never once used the rear camera on any of my iPads, but the presence of a triple lens array wouldn't deter me from buying a new Pro. Nor would it encourage me to buy one, but it's not like Tim Cook would be knocking on my front door insisting that I take my credit card to the nearest Apple Store. I will upgrade my 10.5 Pro in due course, and when I do, it will have whatever camera it has.

How dare you comment on this forum in a calm, well reasoned manner about your indifference to, with such casual disregard, a rumored camera bump and how it would deeply and profoundly affect the mental state of those who have no intention of buying an iPad Pro yet feel compelled to comment on how horribly Apple has treated them...the gall.

Oh god, please no... Please make the rear camera pill-shaped so I can keep my Smart Keyboard Folio for the 2019 iPad Pro.
Are you crazy??? You have to know Apple won't do this. That's another 150 million in their coffers for the million people who buy this new keyboard.

I just find it funny that Apple puts all this R&D into trying to have the best camera on the iPhone and now the iPad. Yet the Macbook lines are stuck with 720p webcams. Given that even budget smartphones have a 1080p capable selfie camera. A Macbook could at least provide a full HD Facetime camera.

I have an iPad Pro 11, and I've never used the rear facing camera.

It's just too cumbersome to take photos with.

I never use the camera functionality on my iPad. I can appreciate it’s available to have, but rarely do I take pictures, not when I have my iPhone with me most of the time.

My other thought would be a price hike with the triple lens camera on the iPad, which probably wouldn’t be welcome given the iPad price increase over the years.

Well, there's another generation of Smart Cases lol!
Literally all I could think of.

The iPad has such little use for a back camera that this update is more of an annoyance than anything else. It would be nicer to actually let accessories develop for more than year.

Apple has completely lost the plot.

Yeah, I'd do this more often if the iCloud sync would work more reliably. Is it only me, or do you guys also have often problems that pictures take hours to days to be uploaded into the cloud? Sometimes I have my phone at the charger, with WiFi access and yet still the upload doesn't progress...

For me the uploads are almost instant, as long as I am connected to a decent WiFi or 3G-4G cellular network.

Why? The last ones were released in October of 2018. I'd think the new ones would be Sept/Oct of 2019. One full year.

It's inconsistent from the previous generations which were somewhat more spaced out than this release, if the rumors prove true.

Background
First generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro release - September 2015
First generation 9.7-inch iPad Pro release - March 2016
Second generation 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro release - June 2017
Their generation 11-inch and 12.9-inch Pad Pro release - October 2018

Timeframes
  • The First generation 9.7-inch iPad Pro was introduced 7 months after the First generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
  • The Second generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro was introduced 22 months after the First generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
  • The Second generation 10.5-inch iPad Pro was introduced 14 months after the First generation 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
  • The Third generation 11-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro were introduced 15 months after the Second generation 10.5-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
There is very little data that suggests a discernible pattern of when Apple would release a Fourth generation iPad Pro, other than the fact that the iPhone is on an annual update cycle, which makes it an opportune time for Apple to do so.

Whether an A13x Bionic(?) is actually a real thing and ready to go is still up in the air. Before, Apple introduced the newest CPU in the iPhone and then followed up with the x variant later, sometimes months, sometimes over a year passed. However, it seems that Apple's engineering pipeline is shortening the gap between those releases.

I guess we'll see soon enough.

I would be most happy to buy the current iPad at the discounted prices that everybody is selling them for. I love my original pro iPad but really want to USB-C connection as well as the new Apple Pencil.

The one thing here that would give me pause is if there was a mini trackpad in the keyboard case like the surface

I wonder how many use the rear camera on the iPad at all. I'm on my 4th tablet now and I don't think I've taken a single photo with any of them. I would be happy to do away with the rear camera, and hence camera bump, all together for an improved front facing camera any day.
Are you sure you haven't used it for FaceTime?
