Can the clip that holds the phone in place be raised up or is it stuck at that one height?

To insert the phone, you pull up the top piece and slide the phone in, the top piece then comes down to hold the phone in place ... there is a spring or rubber band in there to pull it snug.

My eBay tripod arrived today from Hong Kong; it shipped on the 4th, so 10 actual days shipping time, which isn't bad. While it's not a great tripod, as we already knew, I like the mount itself quite well. And when the tripod legs are held together, it actually is far more stable for video than simply trying to hold the phone steady in my bare hands. It's no Steadicam rig, obviously, but it makes a pretty good handle that should improve my ability to shoot short video clips.

As for the mount, it's easily removed to put onto any "real" tripod. :D

Thanks for the recommendation, dredd15! Nifty device, dirt cheap, doesn't require that I mod anything or change cases--all a big plus in my book!

Good to know the mount is ok. It will be gong on a gorillapod and the legs will be going in the trash can :)

Looks like the iPhone 4 Tripods on eBay are dropping in price a bit, here is the lowest price I could find with free shipping ... the same tripod we've been talking about, only now it's $5.99 shipped.

Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered one of these. I got tired of waiting for the gorillapod holder for the iPhone 4.

I was waiting for the iPhone 4 Gorillapod, but than decided i did not want to have to your their case.

So i got the cheap tripod from ebay and use it with a Gorrilapod. Great combo, works perfectly and i never have to take it out of my nice Speck case.

That was a big plus for me too - I use the iPhone Bumper and it is a pain to put on and take off - so this eBay Tripod Mount is perfect because I don't need to remove the case to use it. :)

This is a good example of how accessories don't have to cost so much, or be so un adaptable.
This ain't rocket surgery folks.
I ordered one, will probably order another.

Even though I have the Bubo, I thought something smaller and lighter would be nice, so I picked up a couple of these as you guys did. It's not bad at all. It's a little tight with the Belkin Vue, but it works well. The shipping took about 2 weeks from China.

Check this out. It works great.

Looks cool... like the ability of using filters and other lenses with this adapter.

PED3 makes a tripod mount. The PED3 mount definitely works with iPhone4. I have the car mount but its the same phone holder piece.

Have to look more in to this one :)

I like this tripod mount the best so far... http://www.iphone-tripodholder.com/

Back to the OP's first question.. a tripod... I like the Tamrac Zipshot as a light and portable tripod... but it still needs a mounting bracket for the iPhone....

What's pano software?

Panorama software. Stitches a series of photos together to make one large expanse of a photo. Wide landscape would be one such subject. Tripod helps to ensure that the verticals are aligned when shooting a series of images as you rotate it around the center point.

Just saw this one on the Wired Gadget Lab.

I'm really liking the Fong case... (even though I dislike many of Fong's other work).

I have ordered two of the eBay mounts already, as they will do just fine for what I'm working on currently. I am almost at a state where I can permanently leave behind my Canon XL1 and GL1 and go all-iPhone... especially now that I have my external mic situation figured out for my iPhone.

The Fong version is nice and simple (and as usual, he'll make a mint off of it), but it lacks the functionality of the ebay version--you can't use it with a case. Just as with docks and stands, I prefer that stuff like this not limit my options down the road. The ebay holder allows me to change my mind at a later date and go from bumpered to something else, or even caseless, without having to mod the holder to do so. And in the meantime, I don't have to take the bumper off to use it. It's not perfect by any stretch, but for the price and the versatility, it can't be beat.

Still, that Owle is tempting me something fierce. Might add it to my Xmas wish list, though I have a function in October that I could REALLY use it for.... :D
