Outlook.com works great on iOS devices. However its only POP on the Mac.

Yup, OP asked for iOS7.

Just curious, am I only a small percentage who no longer use email client for personal use?

I'm not too heavy email user but with HTML5, webmail is good enough.
- Drag and drop attachment
- Simple formatting
- Inline image attachment
- Priority (low, normal, high)
- Flagging

Even at some point it's more powerful than client mail
- Server side management (put to folders, scheduled delete, etc)
- Integration with cloud storage
- Integration with docs web app

For serious work, company provides laptop with all the required apps :D. For personal use, those webmail and integration with office apps and cloud storage saves me a lot from buying licenses.

Is the new notification sync feature with ios7 likely to apply to mail and icloud.

I hope so! it's very annoying reading emails on my iPad then still having the new email badges on my iphone ...

i figured so, but i still have to check my mail on my ipad sometimes to get rid of the notifications after checking on my iphone.

gmail exchange death? my gmail is still set as exchange & working, even after deleting it and reentering

That's because your device's serial number hasn't changed. When you get a new device, even if you restore from a backup, it won't work anymore. I learned this the hard way, when my iPhone was replaced in February (I think the cutoff date was January 31) ... ;)

And this is precisely why I don't use Outlook.com - no IMAP support.

Outlook.com - push email on iOS, but no IMAP for desktop
iCloud - push email and IMAP, but no support for personal domains
Gmail - no push email.

Seriously, why can't any of these guys get it right on all counts?

Hope for a quick jailbreak, you can install the push for gmail tweak workaround

Guys, Outlook supports IMAP as of a few days ago. They announced support during a Reddit AMA thread.

I'm using IMAP on Mac Mail perfectly fine right now with 2 different Outlook accounts.

Seeing as Outlook offers full EAS on iOS and by extension, push email, I'm also moving my domain email from Google Apps. The only feature I'll be losing is the catch all, but I can work around that until Outlook implement support.

I don't even have to delete my Google Apps account. I can leave all other services running, like YouTube, and simply turn off Gmail and have Outlook take over.

I no longer have a need to stick with Gmail.

this is all well and good but what about those of us who want to stick with icloud.

anyone know if anything is in the pipeline?
and does the new notification sync in ios7 theoretically mean this issue will be solved?

I think final release may be fully functional. it's still buggy on gm

Perfect! Thanks for the heads up.

I've got my personal domain Gmail forwarding to outlook.com now; the Outlook account on my iPhone is pushing, and the Gmail app makes a good backup/search app. I've got to figure out how to duplicate Gmail's labeling functionality - in Outlook it appears to actually move messages to various folders rather than simply "label" them while leaving them (or a copy, I guess) in the inbox.

Anyway, this is great. Finally got my push email back, along with a custom reply-to address. Yay!

Could I forward my gmail to outlook and reply from gmail just to have push on my phone?

gmail has features that nothing else has.
labels, best antispam, filters and so on.
i dont know also what i will do when i change my ios device that currently exchange is working!

Consider using Nuevasync.. it allows you to have push gmail using their exchange server as a gateway to Gmail's IMAP server.

I'm testing this in prep for my new 5S that I'll be ordering, thus losing GMail push :(. In Outlook I have one of my gmail addresses set to send/receive via Pop. On iOS7, I set up the Outlook account but how do I get it to use my gmail as the reply email?

Outlook.com is the follow up of hotmail.com which is notorious for spam and extremely unsecure.

I'll stick to gmail with push on stock mail in iOS.

In what way?

My (older) Hotmail account gets less spam per day than my Gmail account.

It really has nothing to do with the email provider - if someone sends you a spam message, they're going to have to put it somewhere (i.e. in your spam folder).

Gmail is very spam free for me, the unsecure part is the many breached accounts.

I use Gmail exchange even after I switched my device(s). Both on my new iPhone 5 ( I've had an iPhone 4 ) and my new HTC One S and Xperia S Gmail is working with Exchange account ( the Gmail account was set up as exchange rather than the built in Gmail service to test the Mail app )

This feature even survived the iOS 7 upgrade ( beta and GM ).

But I have to admit that it's not working on my Mac with Exchange, it just gets refused, though I was able to set it up on my Windows machine.

So I have no idea why it works only on some devices.

B2T:

Here in Germany, there's no Push service by Apple due to a patent infringement by Apple, but it works rather well with iOS devices ( Contacts, notes, etc. ). There are a few feature missing I love about Gmail, but overall I would suggest that you switch if you need Push mail, either to iCloud or the suggested Outlook.com, though I couldn't get the latter to synchronize my contacts with my iPhone o_O )

So not a security breach or flaw, but something that they should add to improve security.

I'm confused. These are security features that Outlook.com supports. Wouldn't it be better to point out actual security problems to back up your (still unfounded) claims?

Simple google search.

Emphasis on "simple".

The argument was about hotmail, not outlook....
Outlook.com is an improvement, but still not up to par with gmail on security.

Yes, that's what I'm doing. I added my personal domain address as the reply-to address using the web interface at outlook.com and it 'just works' from both my iPhone and Mac Mail without any special setup. Very cool!

Once you set your reply-to address at outlook.com, it will work with all of your devices automatically. On my iPhone and Mac Mail it says I'm sending from my outlook.com address but it actually uses my personal domain.

Just curious. Why the need for push? I got used to push email when on Blackberry and missed it in iPhone, but after some time I realized that letting the phone check every 15 minutes wasn't that bad because come on, what's 15 minutes? Not much really. (Plus it saves some battery AFAIK).

Can you elaborate? I have a gmail account, not a personal domain.
