Are you for insurrection too?
No, that's exactly what happened. This was back in January 2020 when he was advised by his national security advisors that the pandemic that was forming would cause devastating loss of life and trillions of $ of economic loss, way before COVID spun out of control, when he said the 15 US cases would disappear in two weeks. His daily news conferences began when COVID was out of control, after two months of failed leadership and inaction.
He didn’t panic, and he was listening to his advisors on a changing and dynamic situation. Including the CDC, who got things wrong. When he tried to shut down international flights, he was labeled as a nazi or something. The admin was working on testing infrastructure in Jan. I have first hand experience regarding the executive branch attempts to ramp-up response starting then.

The virus was already here in Janurary. I had it in January 20.

If there was we would be hearing about it, just like we did now. Stop trying to insinuate the two parties are the same… they are not, not even close.
You did hear about it. But those people were held up as patriots, heros, and non-partisan careerists. It couldn’t be further from the acknowledged truth.

The DoJ was investigating a leak of classified information. That is for-cause.
The problem comes in when you target political opponents. Did they subpoena the entire committee's records, D and R alike? This is not an isolated incident, as the DOJ went after CNN and NYT reporters as well. This smacks of a political witch-hunt, to borrow a term used by Trump when the investigation into illegal foreign lobbying by some of his folks looked into phone records.

And two weeks after being informed by his national security advisors about the upcoming devastating loss of life not seen in 100 years and trillions of US economic damage, trump LIED to the American public stating the 15 US cases of covid19 would disappear in two weeks and not to worry.

That is failed leadership.

I vaguely recall this period. I don’t believe you are fully considering (or comprehending) the context of the discussion, and am concerned that you are simply grabbing a headline that was already selective and editorial about whatever was really said.

He was acting on advice of the CDC, not his “national security advisors”.

Regardless, in these situations, I expect the president to lie (and find it may occasionally be wise and she in the large picture) to prevent a panic and quell fears while the administration works on the problem. Otherwise you would be arguing that Trump was being a fear-monger. The guy can’t win with attitudes like that.

Trump's brain must be packed considering all it takes to live there rent-free is to for a pundit or politician to say something he thinks is not nice about him.
I heard he is a good golfer….for his age

I heard he cheats.

What are you all whining about. They investigated, and nothing was found.

The point is going after political opponents who you want to harm. Do you have any doubt had they found something, anything, they could spin it would have been immediately leaked? If they were worried about committee leaks why not investigate the entire committee? People leak in DC all the time, for many reasons, and an R could have easily leaked as a D.
Republicans only tear down. They don’t build anything.

The sad part is they used to not be this way, and both sides generally viewed the other as loyal opposition and could work together for the broader good and overcome disagreements.

Umm, hate to break it to you but "Conservatives" favor small government and less freedom damping regulations.

Unfortunately, many conservatives have abandoned their principals for the sake of being elected. "small government and less freedom damping regulations" has become lets see who can outspend whom and less regulation unless you want to do something I don't like and then a freedom damping regulation is truly holy and just.

True conservatives who stand on principal get ostracized and censured. I may not always agree with Mitt Romney or Liz Cheney, but I respect the hell out of them for standing up for what they feel is right even if it costs then politically.

If this is something you vaguely recall, I don't see how you can pass judgment on me comprehending the context of the statement.

And no, it was not the CDC. It was trump's national security advisor Robert O'Biran and his deputy national security advisor, Matt Pottinger, who briefed trump on January 28, 2020.

trump decided to play it down, not wanting to create a panic. “I still like playing it down, because I don't want to create a panic."

Imagine having your doctor withholding a cancer diagnosis from you, not wanting to create a panic.

Fascism to protect you from Communism.
I don't remember any RINOs getting hanged by GOP, but the Dem supporters did try to shoot several of them during sport activities, the media and the Dems did encourage the population to harm the president for years.

Exposing yourself to one side of the story and refusing to hear the counter arguments, is voluntary totalitarianism, and it's always voluntary, until it's too late.
Yup. Yes these are the true traitors.

Why is this on a tech site??? Leaking confidential info was illegal. Obama & now Biden endlessly investigate GOP politicians, so WHY IS IT HERE ON A TECH SITE? BIAS MUCH, Macrumors ???

Keep your political BS opinions out of Sports, entertainment, and TECH NEWS!

I appreciate him not creating a panic. Cool-headed leadership was not Trump’s style, but it was necessitated. On the other hand, the media was already framing efforts as reactionary and fear mongering (see January moves to block international arrivals).

Trump isn’t my doctor. There is no need or benefit from withholding diagnosis. The ridiculous toilet paper shortage of 2020 would had been minor in comparison to leaders not trying to calm the public while they worked on the dynamic and unprecedented situation.

I’m not passing judgement on you.

Regardless, the virus was already here. I don’t think any other President would had done any better or worse than Trump had, and we would still be facing about the same number of deaths. Maybe more, as I do believe he had a huge role in clearing the path for the vaccine.

Trump did NOT get the vaccine out - private companies did. He shut the borders with China, not because of his in-depth knowledge of virology and epidemiology, but because F**k China. He knows as much about science as a spoon knows about the taste of food. How anyone, let alone women, could possible have anything but contempt for the Most Disgusting Man on Earth is beyond me. What is wrong with you? Did you not see the press conferences? Inject disinfectant? (people actually tried that - because Trump said so - and died, so yes, his actions were directly responsible for deaths.)
Destroy it with light inside the body? Wu Flu? All over by Easter?
A leader does not quell panic - a leader LEADS! Trump is a lot of things but he's not a leader. Shameless con man, charlatan and self publicist morelike.
Barack Obama created an agency solely to deal with a COVID type event. Stockpiles of protective equipment, teams of researchers and scientists on standby - all the things you would need. Trumps response? Disband it, get rid of the stocks, because it saved some money. That turned out well.
It's true what Churchill said about Americans - they will always do the right thing, but only after trying all the other alternatives.
FDA red tape cutting and process acceleration was all Trump. Give credit where credit is due.

And if the vaccine backfired or failed, the blame would be at his feet. Again, the guy can’t win. The establishment can only spin.

Leaking is not a just cause? They investigated Trump without having any evidence of any crimes, multiple times, and every time it turned out to be false they quickly moved on to the next accusation without evidence.
They would have to have a reasonable suspicious that the leaks came from those members of Congress. They only subpoenaed 2 members of a committee in which all of them would have known about the information. Why just those two? Thats why it looks like an abuse of power. I also think some kids of the staffers were subpoenaed as well, which is even more disturbing.

There were no evidence of crimes with Trump? Are you serious? LOL

Was Everyone who investigated Trump simply incompetent? They can’t be.

good point on staffers. In light of Senator Diane Feinstein’s spying staffers, I think that all staffers should undergo much more scrutiny and questions regarding their loyalty. Much more going on with appointed staffers than muh Russia Russia Russia.

No, he had immunity from everything as POTUS. How many Trump people went to jail during his 4 years? How many pardons did he give out? The one that bothers me is the FEC dropping the case against Trump because his appointees let him off the hook.

You mean like Manafort, Stone, and the balding Greek kid who did 2 weeks for unknowingly taking money from opposition research?

2/3 of those convictions didn’t have anything to do with Trump. But they were certainly not on the level. But I suppose that’s the risk you take in their line of work.

Agree that Mueller and Weizmann were not incompetent, but immunity had nothing to do with their findings (or lack thereof)

I can’t wait until they nail Trump for getting kickbacks from his kid’s do-nothing $5M job with Ukrainian energy firms,

I’m gonna leave this thread since the non-stop off-topic accusations about Trump have nothing to do with Schiff’s leaks, or his responsibility in vetting staffers. It seems people would rather distract away from the original topic with inane accusations. It’s just people repeating (often disproven) editorialized headlines from years ago. Manufactured outrage like when trump got two scoops of ice cream, and everyone else got one.

wow, trump gov does a lot shady things. I am sure other admins did the same.

All US companies are subject to US law unfortunately. There should be an international law since tech is used all around the world.
So did apple here. Apple was shady as well given they’re so hell bent on peoples “privacy” this is a serious blow to that in my opinion
