Merrick Garland should be punished for not prosecuting him.
SCOTUS already blocked that by basically making him king. There was no scenario where he was going to be held responsible, the court has been corrupt enough to make sure of that. I mean, he started an insurrection and stole classified documents and was hiding them in a bathroom and voters were like "meh." Sadly there was no scenario in which he was going to go to jail or being held accountable and even voters aren't willing to do it.

This is a show. Apple will need to pay for Trump bank account and this will be an excellent moment to increase profits for us shareholders.

But they will make the rest of the world pay to even out pricing for the us. America should be punished for reelecting the orange man, not all of us.
Unlikely. Prices of Apple products have varied between countries long before Trump’s tariffs.

I wish Trump would do something actually useful, like deport Siri. ;)
I like the idea of Trump threatening Apple with tariffs until Siri is actually useful.

Problem is, I think that Apple would be paying said tariffs for the foreseeable future, as there is obviously no realistic plan to get Siri to graduate beyond (sometimes) being able to set timers.

Anything Trump announces there always seems to be a climb down or offramp available. I’m not sure what that is here. Maybe that there’s no date attached to the threat? The 50% EU threat had a date of June 1. Not sure what happens here. Tim Cook goes to the White House explains the complexities and infeasibility of manufacturing iPhones here but offers Trump something? Could be investments already announced/planned. Still this is a very specific threat. Maybe Apple does nothing assuming his attention span is so short and he’ll move on to something else?
Well…

I live in the EU, and I try to make my living by providing certain goods and services around the globe. The US is maybe one third of total sales for products manufactured in the EU.

So, yes, Trump’s tariffs are a bit worrying. However, TACO (Trump Always Chickens Out) is still the most likely outcome. Setting 50 % rate on everything European or 25 % rate on smart phones from outside the US is called “inflation”. Severe one at that.

On the other hand, there have been a lot of leaders capable of destroying their own economy throughout history. Trump is not the first nor the last. He is, however, possibly the most entertaining.

Turned on Fox Business this morning and they had a guest on spinning this as a big nothing burger because Apple is only down 4% pre-market. He called it a negotiating tactic. I’m not sure what Trump thinks he’s negotiating here. iPhones aren’t going to be made in the United States. There is no big, beautiful plant with a ribbon cutting ceremony on the table. So what is he negotiating?
Maybe Trump just wants another bribe? That's the only thing I can literally think of.

He's gone LOCO! Honestly this guy thinks hes a king or something when he's a total moron. It just shows how out of touch with any reality he is what so ever (trump not Tim Cook).

There is no math that works out where Apple will be able to build iPhones here in the US and be able to sell them to people for affordable prices.

That math doesnt exists. Thats not a political opinion...thats a factual statement OF REALITY....Something Trump refuses to believe because anything that doesn't make him look good doesn't exists because everything revolves around trump apparently!

The tariffs and now this new "Beautiful" bill (If it passes) by the way it sounds like something made up by a 1st grader, which ironically is trumps maturity level and intelligence level too.... if these things are allowed to pass, there wont be a recession, it will be a full blown DEPRESSION because no one will be able to afford ANYTHING let alone iphones!

Again...not a political opinion...simple logical math. You cant tariff everything under the sun just because it comes from overseas, then pass a bill that takes away money from vital social services from the population while giving the super wealthy tax breaks, then tell companies they have to build and manufacture items here in the US, despite there being a lack of skilled laborers willing to do the job for less then a livable wadge because then the people wont be able to afford a living to buy the items they are building, which wont sell because no one can afford them!

Imagine this...you work 12-15 plus hours in an American built iPhone factory building Iphones. Say your in charge of dying the Aluminum to the various colors of the phones.

Your average work day is 12 hours. Sometimes more. You get less then minimum wadge. You barely can afford the rent and bills and despite you working all day on the factory line, you still require assistance for food stamps and health care as you just cant afford it on your own despite you working your ass off at Apple to build iphones.

Ok...Now you work hard, you do your job, yet you cant afford to buy the iphone you help build because it costs too much for most people to buy it given the current state of the economy!

So what happpens, they sit in a warehouse unsold and apple isnt going to spend more money to build more phones when the current stock isnt selling cause no one outside of the super rich can afford one, so apple slows down if not stops production all together...and what does that mean, your out of a job!

So now your not making any money though no fault of your own, along with most of your co workers...and sooner or later apple, along with other tech companies start going out of buisness because no one can afford the products and services being built ALL BECAUSE SOME ORANGE IDIOT DOESNT WANT TO EXCEPT REALITY AND LOGIC!

thats whats happening here folkes. Thats not a political statement, thats simple math and reality.
This is called oligarchy. Which this administration is the start of. There won’t be anymore fair elections. America is dead.

Moving production to the US will increase costs by 30%, leaving iPhone assembly in China will increase prices by 25%. The business decision seems easy. US consumers are doomed to spend more.

That simply isn’t true. He sat on the evidence for almost 2 years. Instead decided to start to move after SCOTUS ruling. Which then still wouldn’t have covered these things as the things being done were not covered by the SCOTUS ruling of official acts relegated to him in the executive position.

And this is the sort of “news” the cult ingests all day

No wonder we are where we are.

He is going not only after China or whateva country he dislikes, but he also tries to derail american companies, jobs and universities...for what end?!

Where are the other smart phones made? Samsung, Google, etc. - are they as outsourced as Apple?

If you want to employ more Americans, then put a tariff on the offshore IT & Call Center labor forces.
No worries. That will be taken care by AI anyway.

How would you put a tariff on such services? I don’t think it would be in the American interest to open that can of worms. Think of any of the large American tech companies.

You do realize we pay the tariffs, not Apple, right?

Trump is just a symptom, not the disease. It’s not like the majority of American voters are going to have a sudden 180 in their beliefs when Trump has one Big Mac too many and finally kicks it.

Color me surprised. I am shocked Trump is behaving this way. 🙄
I thought republicans were all in for small government and free market, not dictating what private companies should or should not do. This bully thinks government is a business, bullying others to bend to his will.
Wellbeing of the citizens should be more important than making profit!

Nationalize Apple. (This is a joke and remember the government is the one with the tanks and guns.)
Agree but in this time of age, information is key, and lets not forget USA tanks and guns has chips on it/..one black out from big tech companies and we are all lost and totally chaos...so, not people or government has the absolute power now but the giant tech companies unfortunately. I really hope after Tim, we will not have a Vladimir Putin or Kim like headed CEO

This forum is unavoidably an echo chamber (for the most part). Yes we all (almost all) see Trump for the incompetent wanna be dictator that he is. Apple's problem, though, is not merely a calculation about the cost of Trump's tariff versus the cost of moving (some) manufacturing here to the US. Apple also has to worry about Trump's stupid cult-base. If Apple fights back, if it does anything less then at least pretend to kneel before Trump, it could lose 10-20% of its sales in the US when Trump declares he's switching to Android and dumping all other Mac devices and asks his cult followers to do the same. I am assuming his cult members already use Android to a greater extent than the average US population (due to age, education and income demographics), but even if it were only 10% of Apple's sales (of iPhones and the rest of Apple's ecosystem products) in the US, that would hurt much more than a 25% tariff.

Bottom line: Apple has to do everything it can to avoid giving Trump a reason to politicize his base against Apple (which is also why Target, Walmart, Amazon, etc. bend the knee to him).

It’s way more than the labor costs. The whole frickin supply chain is in China. They spent decades building it up.
Not to mention the supply chain TO the supply chain - if a machine goes down that a factory uses, the factory that made it is around the block and can be on hand to fix it.

It's like a city made exclusively for electronics manufacturing with tons of experience and skills all within a couple of square miles.
