The man belongs to an insane asylum. Needs to be protected from his own stupidity.
And what happens if China decides the same thing some day? Trump is trying to stop the over reliance and absurd use of China for literally EVERYTHING. Even Vitamin-C is produced in China and we import it. This is ridiculous. We put too much power in China and I’m glad to see the push here. Probably the only thing I am in somewhat agreement with Trump. No one here wants to sit on line in a factory putting together phones. It's boring, repetitive work, so why bother relocating? I don't care where it's made.
Costs are rising anyway. Game consoles are INCREASING in price for 5 year old hardware. The production costs will rise by more than 25% if they move to the US. So they’re not going to do it.
Freaking Vitamin-C is all in China. We need this to stop. It’s way more than the labor costs. The whole frickin supply chain is in China. They spent decades building it up.
Sure but on the flip side if they go too far with their appeasement they’ll lose sales absolutely everywhere else lolThis forum is unavoidably an echo chamber (for the most part). Yes we all (almost all) see Trump for the incompetent wanna be dictator that he is. Apple's problem, though, is not merely a calculation about the cost of Trump's tariff versus the cost of moving (some) manufacturing here to the US. Apple also has to worry about Trump's stupid cult-base. If Apple fights back, if it does anything less then at least pretend to kneel before Trump, it could lose 10-20% of its sales in the US when Trump declares he's switching to Android and dumping all other Mac devices and asks his cult followers to do the same. I am assuming his cult members already use Android to a greater extent than the average US population (due to age, education and income demographics), but even if it were only 10% of Apple's sales (of iPhones and the rest of Apple's ecosystem products) in the US, that would hurt much more than a 25% tariff.
Bottom line: Apple has to do everything it can to avoid giving Trump a reason to politicize his base against Apple (which is also why Target, Walmart, Amazon, etc. bend the knee to him).
Stop the lies most people wouldn’t. In fact the vast majority people could no longer offered them then. It’s why folding phones aren’t widely in useI would gladly pay $2000 for an iPhone, if it were made in America.
There are ways to strengthen domestic production. What Trump is doing, however, is totally inept, and does more harm than good. And what happens if Cuba decides the same thing some day? there have been a lot of leaders capable of destroying their own economy throughout history. Trump is not the first nor the last. He is, however, possibly the most entertaining.
It’s not just a basic 25% tariff. Watch Gamers Nexus “Death of affordable computing”. It compounds based on components.Be cheaper to pay the 25% tax than to build it in the USA.

For the same reason his shoes are made in Vietnam and Bibles in China. He is a hypocrite.Ludicrous logistics issues aside, why doesn't Trump lead by example and manufacture his crappy hats in the U.S.?
We've been saying that since Jan 7th, 2021. If we have learned only one thing from literally every legal battle, court ruling, and election that has happened since then, it should be that Trump is immune from legal responsibility, does not follow the law, needs not follow the law, and will not follow the law.More like 18 months. Short of declaring himself World King, the Dems will take both houses in the mid-terms, then the orange painted shitgibbon is in for a world of hurt.
Apple most definitely should not have been doing that. American workers do not want the sorts of low-paying, low-benefits factory jobs that are plentiful in China and India. American consumers do not want to pay the prices that would result from doing this. Companies like Apple would be competitively disadvantaged relative to Chinese companies that could rely on cheap labor operating with few workplace protections and without the concept of overtime.Should have already been transitioning production to the US. Nobody made them do it. Now's the time. Twenty years is long enough.
They aren’t using slave labor in China. Their cost of living is lower than it is here. Many people in China view those jobs as an economic uplift.I already pay upwards of $2k for my phones, and if they were double the cost (and made in America) I would pay it because it is something I use often. I'd rather support America than a country like China. Slave labor is not something I support. Nor are wages that are slightly above getting paid nothing. But, to each their own.
No it’s not. It’s a strong negotiation tactic. It’s like when you want to negotiate a salary or raise. You don’t say “I want $1”. You ask for much higher so the counter is closer to what you actually want. There are ways to strengthen domestic production. What Trump is doing, however, is totally inept, and does more harm than good.
Maybe the one where Noem and Miller want to suspend Habeas Corpus?A civil war???? What world do you live in?

Sure, I was just replying to the question “Is there an American company that makes Android phones?”.Pixel's are made in Vietnam and China.
