Best interests for the US or not aside, it’s worrying that the President has the power to literally dictate stuff like this - without any consultation with the broader governing system. A very dangerous precedent is being set here!
This. What’s stopping him from banning Facebook, or Twitter, or YouTube?

You just said it, "dictate" which means, this feels like a dictatorship.

So it’s now possible for one man to circumvent the American constitution, congress and the senate, basically all governing bodies and order the shut down of an American company without providing any evidence of law breaking or intent to break the law.

And do this without the company having any legal means to challenge this?

it Makes me wonder why half the country is up in arms about threats to the 1st and 2nd amendments but are totally happy with this one?

surely this undermines the basic freedom of America and is more inline with a dictatorship than a democracy?

Weird.

This president has done a lot of things that have challenged or just plain gone against the constitution. But A. This is not an American company. B. TikTok has legal recourse if they wish through the courts.

C. But as much as Trump has stretched the bounds of his power, this seems to be well within it. It’s foreign policy, trade, national security - that’s pretty much the president’s wheelhouse.

Agree with it or not, there are plenty of things to blow the whistle on in any administration. Try not to cry wolf or exaggerate an issue. Not EVERYTHING is a constitutional crisis - though you would be forgiven for thinking as much with our current politics.

No there isn't and no they won't. national security is national security. If we'd have let the Congress and the courts decide how to deal with the Nazis, everyone in Europe would be speaking German right now and Germany would have invaded America too. President Roosevelt had to take action. Thinking like yours is dangerous for the world.

Somebody seems to have skipped all of their history lessons. Here's a little homework for you...go look up what part of the US government has the sole capability to declare war. As a follow up, go look up branch of the US government declared war against Germany in WWII.

Me too. He has got to go for the good of our nation and the health of its people.

Surely US courts will halt this?

Im in favor of the US and the West in General banning Chinese Apps until western Apps can freely operate in continental China, but “executive orders” surely is not the way to go about it? I would argue there might be a national consensus around this

Maybe but these things seem to take way too much time.

168,000+ people have not died due to COVID. Note that I said "due to" not "with". Reports have already stated that around 25% of all deaths reported as COVID deaths are actually deaths with COVID as opposed deaths due to COVID.

It's only recently that a handful of states have begun to report these statistics separately. I think you will be very surprised once all of the excess death figures are calculated at the end of the year and you'll see that not nearly as many people have actually died from COVID than is being reported at the moment.

Aside from the above, how can you possibly blame Trump for COVID deaths? Is he also responsible for the ~50,000 flu deaths that occur every flu season?

Whats your point that 25% less deaths is acceptable?

All of the deaths were either directly or indirectly caused by Covid-19.

If a person dies of flue and they are found to have Covid-19, that is a Covid related death.

Honestly, if it continues to exist, who cares. It’s not like it’s going to cease to exist.

Did Congress or the Supreme Court decide to drop the nuclear bomb? I rest my case, but good try.

As a AAPL stockholder, I'm seriously worried.

The day when this dude also wants to destroy Wechat will be Apple's worst earthquake.
It remains exciting to see if Trump can mentally understand what long-term consequences this will have for Apple.
Will reasonable advisors be able to protect America's (Apple's) economy from his Wechat ban idea?

If it is in the best interest of US, I am all for banning the app. But placing a mandate to sell US portion is downright stealing. It should be ByteDance’s sole business decision to when and how to spin off US operation. This is why I said There should be investigation on whether Trump bought MSFT prior to Announcing plans for this exec order.
He agreed to a takeover of Microsoft after he understood Microsoft's idea (Skype etc). This took just one day.
A software that opens up espionage possibilities for China's communists also offers the same interface in other systems to spy people and peoples.
Do you remember Edward Snowden?
With his doing he accelerates the beginning of an IT war between the continents of the world without being able to understand this in a balanced way...
