Hey man, i’m livin’ with it. And if the midterms are any indication... we’ll only have to live with it for another 2 years. Lol. Providing of course Mueller doesn’t drop a bomb and ruin Trump’s day sooner. But hey, I could be wrong. I was as shocked as anyone when Trump won in 2016. Hillary winning the popular vote not withstanding, I was a Bernie supporter and wasn’t a huge fan of hers. But still, I thought she’d win. So did Trump. By all inside accounts he and his entire cabinet thought he was going to lose. Who knows what’s gonna happen in 2020. We don’t even know what Dems are running or if Trump will get a challenger in the Republican Party like Kasich or Romney.

Trump will go unchallenged. The Republican party is his. Mueller will be a damp squib, but the Democrats in the US House will have all sorts hearings and subpoenas, who will try to impeach him. This will only work to help Trump in 2020 get re-elected as the 5% in the middle will shift toward him. So you may have to live with it until Jan. 2025.

Your avatar is Trump and your location is set in Canada but you're weighing in on US politics for a US company. So much cognitive dissonance.

In any case, the Citizens United SCOTUS ruling means corporations can financially participate in political campaigns, so why wouldn't Apple donate to one more aligned with their political values and goals, especially when tariffs hurt their bottom line?

Republicans don’t realize the policy they set to hurt us when in power will hurt them just the same when the ride is over — just like with the fillabuster rules they set in the house. Payback is a bitch. Trump must be ******** bricks.

I think globalization has worked well for us. US economy is dominating in tech, the new most-valuable-industry. We're taking the best people from the other countries for tech and for everything else. American businesses even make money abroad and bring it in.

Funniest is that things like Facebook and Instagram would otherwise be a net negative on our economy (waste of resources to build and waste of time to use), but this way there are more foreign users than domestic so we take the ad revenue at their loss.

The divide between rich and poor has been widening in the US regardless of political party in charge. It is not healthy.

It's only unhealthy if the poor can't buy things from even poorer people elsewhere. Right now everyone in the US is doing great. Doesn't matter if the rich are much richer.

Trump's steel tariffs is why GM just laid off everyone.

Congratulations Trump voters, you played yourself.

The US economy is a globalist one that seeks open borders and free trade. The quicker you understand that, the better off you will be in this country.

Apple is doing exactly that by designing products by brilliant engineers in Silicon Valley, while having them built by cheaper, lower educated people in China.

If a person in China can build something for cheaper than in America, LET THEM - that is economic efficiency. An efficient economy will always win over an corrupt, inefficient one. Americans should only do jobs that only Americans can do, like high-end services jobs. Our economy is based on massive higher-education - the best in the world. No other country has a university system like ours, and we should take advantage of that.

It is strange that Republicans often cling to "let the free market work it out" when it comes to healthcare, but don't mind the government stepping in to prevent things like products being built in China. The market worked that out - it's the best place to assemble products.

Republicans and Democrats are never honest about their views. Libertarians and smaller parties are, but that's because they don't have anything to lose.

Hey man. Don’t be so sure about Trump not getting challenged. ALOT can happen these next two years. I think complacency took the Dems by surprise in 2016. Same can happen on the other side. Trump has his 39%...but there is a good chance he will lose those independents he managed to peel off from Hillary 2 years ago. The midterms are a good indicator of that. So again, don’t be so sure. I’m a east coast liberal, atheist, tree huggin lefty lol...but I still have many conservative friends...and I tell them...how sure I was back in 2016. So the tables could turn the other way. Just sayin.

Lol ok what’s your solution? Get rid of democracy since everyone is too dump for it?

If the US starts having taxes of 20% then it will finally have the same tax rate as those of us in Europe. Actually lower. Ours is 21% VAT on EVERYTHING (not just things from countries that impose much higher taxes on US goods). American things are actually ungodly expensive over here. Whenever any of my friends travel to the US they come back with suitcases of stuff they can't buy here. You basically can't buy anything American here because the taxes/tarrifs are too high. If something is from an American country it's always some lower quality version made in China (e.g., Levis jeans here are cheap garbage from China). A Ford Mustang is like a Ferrari and massive status symbol.

This agrees with the impression I had visiting. Funny, Mustangs are actually bad cars with awful handling comparable to a Toyota's; even the low end of German cars are much nicer.

If it were a popular vote, all candidates would have played differently. Trump could just as easily have positioned himself to win it.

Nah. Not bloody likely mate. Ain’t no way Trump coulda played it differently and won over those 3 million people. Plus...um... He ain’t playin’ it too good now. In case you didn’t notice, thanks to Trump, the GOP got shellacked in the midterms. They lost huuuuge.

apple builds for cheap in china and rips off their customers with way way to high prices. apple has become very very greedy!

patent? that is tiny for China. how about this: you own a big corporation with billions in sale, like GM. your company has a portfolio of thousand of patents and secret processes to make your product better than anyone else. now you want to sell your products in China.

Guess what? in order to sell your product in China, you have to make China (yes China government) as your company's "partner". From there, all your patent and secrets are "shared" with China.

eventually your company is not competing against another company. you are competing against corporations owned by China government.
You have to apply for patents first. In America it is the same ;) When you enter a marriage with your wife and share your secrets with her she owns half of what you own

I thought Tesla recently managed to open his factory in China without needing to have a local partner to share all his secrets with.

With a different election setup, he might've not even had the same kind of public appearance you know today. He might've even been a Democrat you'd be basically forced to vote for. I can't see how you could make any kind of judgement like that.

And really, nobody can dispute his ability to win elections. I've never seen the odds stacked so heavily against a presidential candidate. The Republicans losing spots in the House, those are their own elections.

I don't know if Tesla has any secrets. I know they turned all their patents into public domain in 2014 and claimed they were committing to letting everyone use their knowledge, but it could easily be a stunt.

Patents are different from secrets. They're kind of the opposite. Lots of things are kept un-patented precisely so they can't be copied, and some big companies even patent things with the intention of them being copied (throwing off competitors). You aren't forced to share secrets with the US government.

Like Apple (and many other companies) Tesla’s software and hardware development is probably done outside of China. No sharing of secrets for assembly.

Hey, i’ll give you that. Trump has no ideology and is a shape shifting chameleon. Who knows what form he woulda taken. I think it was a perfect storm however that led to his win. People were fed up with politics as usual. That’s why Bernie was drawing bigger crowds than Hillary. But I also think a lot of independents have buyers remorse now and would vote differently today. Plus I think Trump is too entrenched now with his persona to shape shift for 2020. He’s locked in to his chosen character. But I disagree with you about the Republicans losing the House is all on them. Trump played huuuge in them losing. It was a massive rebuke of Trump as much as it was of them as candidates.

It's not a ripoff if the customer agrees to it and it's a nonessential good. Apple products are among the least essential goods.

Trump is probably the only President that would have the balls to take on Apple. And I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing even though I never voted for him. The only Americans that think Trump is the worst thing for the world are those that badly want him thrown out of office. We call it Trump Derangement and psychologists are now treating it as a real disease. America thrives on capitalism, not watered down socialism. This is why Europe is broke and we're not. Thatcher said it best. "Socialism is fantastic until you've run out of other peoples' money." If Trump's tariffs result in no good deals for American workers, he simply won't be re-elected. So far, unlike in Europe, the American economy is booming and the tax cuts/reform are the reason the time is right for Apple to bring back more production to America. China's plan is to become the world's largest economy at the expense of everyone else. Who else could possibly fight that better than Trump? Who else would have the balls to take on Apple and China at the same time?

I love Apple much more than Trump, but I don't mind him setting things straight as to where their priorities should be as an American company. There's just no reason that Apple could not make more stuff here.

Open borders only cause harm to the most vulnerable low/middle income workers in America because their wages go down. America is increasingly less and less unionized, so the protections for those people are not what they used to be. Wall Street knows this. Americans do not want Open Borders. Wall Street does to drive down the cost of doing business. This is why Wall Street gave more money to Hillary Clinton's campaign than Donald Trump.

Hey, i’ll give you that. Trump has no ideology and is a shape shifting chameleon. Who knows what form he woulda taken. I think it was a perfect storm however that led to his win. Republicans suffered the most mild midterm loss in modern political history, less than Obama, Bush, & Clinton. The Blue Wave was a muddy puddle. They didn't achieve anywhere near enough wins to throw Trump out of office and that's with the media slamming Trump 90% of the time. One poll you don't see very often is the Approval rating of the media. It's lower than Congress, Supreme Court, and Trump! So if anyone thinks CNN or MSNBC will flip the 2020 race, think again.

Bill Clinton said it best. "It's the economy stupid." Trump will live/die by that and probably nothing else. If screwing with Apple helps sink the U.S. economy, then that will be solely Trump's fault.

Good! Do it!

Seconded. Build 'em here or in other countries with civilized labor practices and watch quality issues
disappear.

Don't put it beyond Peking's thinking to instruct workers to purposefully sabotage when they assemble. Tarnishes the Apple brand and makes Chinese ripoff devices shine. Chinese history is replete with cozying up to enemies in order to destroy them.

The differences between regions and industries didn't end with slavery. They replaced human slaves with mechanized equipment, same thing to them in the end. Also your argument doesn't even make sense because the Electoral College was created after slavery had ended.

Rural areas don't have ubiquitous communication, not even close. I don't know where you live, but you can drive for 2 hours in California and end up in towns where nobody uses cellphones because there's no cell service, plus home internet is severely limited (e.g. expensive satellite plans).

I'm not sure if this is meant to be a disagreement, but in that press release, he's only upset about Trump targeting Europe and Canada. In this article he's still pro-tarriff and opposes free trade: "Instead of imposing piecemeal tariffs on our trading partners, he should comprehensively and fundamentally re-write all of our failed unfettered trade policies to stop the race to the bottom and lift living standards in the U.S. and throughout the world." (Specifically calls for taxing Chinese imports in there too.)

I saw that now. I am shocked. I don’t know how that plays in 2019-2020 with Trump. Bernie’s message has been popular in the rust belt but Trump bungling tarrifs so bad might ruin it (I am a huge Bernie fan BTW)
