i laugh at that. cough*look at the iphone 4* cough* cough*

The iphone 4's leak has nothing to do with this. I'm talking about how companies make accessories if they don't have any idea what shape the product will take. With the iphone 4, yes they had information to go on. With the 4th generation ipod touch, there is no good indication. What do companies do then? Rolling the dice and putting out thousands (or more) cases that don't fit because the shape changed would be a large waste of time and money.

But they lose advertising then. Their big events draw attention on the internet, and then the reporters make articles, those can then go into magazines. I think they would want a big crowd to hear the announcement, not just a website. Because honestly, how many people actually go to apple.com on a daily basis? I only go their for product information/specs or if I'm in the market for a new device.
I wasnt saying only their website. But that would be a good place to post a preview.

Shouldnt the case companies be receiving a dimensions sheet by now? Or something of the sort?

I wasn't sure. happy21 implied that no information was given out by Apple according to Jobs (to prevent leaks). I thought that companies would almost need the information to avoid big mistakes.

I dont think the case companies will be blindly working on cases. They have to know the dimensions or else making cases would be extremely illogical. What will be leaked in a dimension sheet other than the design (maybe) and whether or not it has a camera? Those will probably be the only things that will be obvious. They wont know if it has A4, or 16GB, or a Retina.

Yeah! New title!

oh i just remembered back to school promo ends sept 2!?

edit:btw to help you understand what i said about the look at the iphone4, job said their company dont give out designs including diminsions EARLY before the actual product is released because it usually gets leak and people dont buy old ones if they see new ones coming out.

Sept 2? Really? I didn't know that, since apple.com says the 7th. And posting that article (which was only posted 2 hours ago), isn't anything really. I know it was a rumor, which is why I started this thread to see if anyone else found anything to support the idea.

Also, I can understand that he wants the old products to sell until the new ones come out. However, what I was saying is that companies need something to go on, otherwise cases for new products wouldn't available for quite a while.

No, it will come out mid-September, just a few weeks after the back to school promo is over.

What if they somehow already did send out invites, but they made the press stay quiet to make it more secretive or something? I dunno, I'm just really hopeful for an August release before school starts and I'm all busy. I REALLY want it as early as possible.

It wouldn't make sense to hold items for a month before selling them. How often do they restock? If they restock monthly, then these may be 3rd gen.

Another idea to ponder. In the above example, it is mentioned that there were no ipods. Were they being cleared for new ones?

Also, "yanks"? Really?

Would you prefer 'Septics'? ;)

well i didn't know 'yanks' was an offensive term.how is it different from 'brits','aussies' or 'kiwis' as us new zealanders are called?

this ipod touch 4 needs to hurry up and get released.im getting desperate and actually considering buying an iphone 4.Infact the only thing thats stopping me is the antenna problems. why apple why

The onus of using 'trash talk' is on you, as you are making the word 'yank' trash talk...

I'm a 'yank' and don't have a problem w/ it - so kindly don't speak for me...

I'm not speaking for you. I personally don't enjoy being referred to as the stereotypical American.

Moving on with the thread though, I'm pretty sure the August release is not going to happen. Unless something big comes up soon (which doesn't seem likely), the date will be in September like normal.
