I bet it has something to do with the State of California, not really Apple. Look at how long it took fro them to add the Clipper Card to Apple Wallet. Despite Clipper being used right in Apple's backyard.Where's CA, Apple?!
Absolutely!Keep in mind, if there is a return flight from a state that does not offer this, you still need a physical license. This will take years to implement, but even then is it really worth it? You still need a physical ID for so many other things.
To travel, you only need the passport. I don't know about other stuff.Unfortunately it is a law that was allowed to pass that requires everyone to have it.
The REAL ID has little to do with travel and more about granting and denying access.
There are already facilities that require REAL ID verification for gaining access. Even hospitals will require it for access into their buildings.
And this invalidates my statement how? I've ridden trains/metros in 41 countries and many systems have gone or are going cashless.I have paid in cash for transit all over the world, from the Tehran metro, to the Star Ferry in Hong Kong. I would guess I have ridden trains/metros with cash tickets in at least 40 countries and buses in nearly 100 countries.
You’re confused. What he saying is, is that do you still need a physical real ID in conjunction to a digital real ID. There is likely plenty of scenarios for a physical real ID is still necessary, for example; if you’re hired with a new employer, they make a copy of your drivers license to have on file if you have a job that requires some type of travel. It is still a realID just on your phone.
Me too...I'm getting close....just 2 credit cards for the lame stores that don't have NFC, a debit card (incase I need cash for some reason and the only ATM I find also, does not have NFC), a drivers license, and company ID card.Want this in Australia. I want to be wallet-free (I'm close).
INCLUDING A LOT IN THE US (Portland, NYC, Phoenix, SD, etc) I don’t understand why people are so afraid. For cash dependent customers, all of these systems in all of those countries have a way to load a prepaid card up with cash. And this invalidates my statement how? I've ridden trains/metros in 41 countries and many systems have gone or are going cashless.
IDEMIA is the company that makes our AZ licenses and existing mobile app. I see their equipment deployed all over the airport at the TSA lines, so that may just tell me that our airport will be one of those two.Seeing as AZ is one of the states that was on board with Apple from the get go for the digital license in Apple Wallet, I'm hoping that Phoenix Sky-Harbor International is one of those two airports the TSA will be starting it at. Especially since I have some upcoming travel for work in early 2022.
That's a silly analysis. It's like saying that Intel is far ahead of TSMC based on the fact that Intel constantly runs its mouth about plans ten years out (which rarely play out as claimed) whereas TSMC **** until they have something 100% working. But yet California, the world center of tech, can't get it together for this.
Your point is certainly valid, but says something really sad about California. I live in SF and can’t believe how long this stuff takes for the state.I bet it has something to do with the State of California, not really Apple. Look at how long it took fro them to add the Clipper Card to Apple Wallet. Despite Clipper being used right in Apple's backyard.
Or, worse case scenario, you have one open on your phone and the other on your watch.I don't know about that. I've spent more time waiting in line while others (and myself) try to straighten out the paper ticket than any on-screen QR code to be scanned. You're also assuming that the digital ID and digital boarding pass cannot be integrated into the same screen or scannable code.
Those companies already accept scanned versions--so I don't see why digital wouldn't suffice--thry just need a copy for their records. You’re confused. What he saying is, is that do you still need a physical real ID in conjunction to a digital real ID. There is situations where a digital ID is sufficient, but we’re nowhere near in a world where you won’t be able to not have a physical ID that will still require it.
We’re nearing the end of February, and no airports accept them yet. It’s also not available in iOS yet. Why?
We’re nearing the end of February, and no airports accept them yet. It’s also not available in iOS yet.
Well no airport would accept a non-existent ID that is relying on Apple to enable first. We’re nearing the end of February, and no airports accept them yet. It’s also not available in iOS yet.
That's partially my point. Apple didn't say February. They've only said "early 2022" on the website. It was the TSA that came out and said February. If they're not going to meet that date, they should have updated the timeline.Well no airport would accept a non-existent ID that is relying on Apple to enable first.
