Utter domination in chip performance. Yet, Apple is not innovating.

Schiller must be banging his head on a wall.
We've been in a holding pattern on mobile innovation for a few years now. Everything from the last 5 years is honed to perfection, but nothing truly "new" has come out to change the game board in a big way. It feels "the same"for a long time.. there's not much difference between an iPhone 6,6s, or 7 because the apps are mostly "done" for now.

I secretly wished that A10 and iOS 10 made it onto the 10th anniversary iPhones - all 10's.
Maybe they delay the next iPhone until the ELEVENTH anniversary of iPhone's announcement. Then Apple can "turn it to 11!" A11 processor, iOS 11, even bump MacOS up to 11!

They can celebrate with a great big iPhone with huge speakers that takes lots of D-batteries! And a touch dial that goes to 11.

Alexa/Echo/Tap/Dot came out. That is the great innovation of the last 5 years: great microphones.

It kicked Apple in the ass and clued then into putting great mics into the Airpods - one of the reasons the Airpods are so good.

Airpods are the first Apple product ever with great mics. If it hadn't been for Amazon, Apple would have yet again put the cheapest garbage fifty cent mics in the Airpods.

It's weird how much people relate appearances to innovation as well. Apple could make a huge leap in hardware and performance, but if it looked similar to the current iPhone it'd get criticised.
Yes, and make a slightly curved screen with zero practical use, and , because of the curve, is bad for VR. Make an exploding phone, then you are an innovator.
Make a laptop with one connector(not usb-c) , a skimmed os, which "seems" to be low price, slap some fabric on the keyboard, and you are an innovator.

Wait, you're saying the reason Apple's completely wireless bluetooth earbuds are a success is because of Amazon's table top speaker?

The Amazon mics are almost certainly less than $0.50. I can buy similar Knowles mics from Digikey for a dollar in quantities of 1.

The limiting factor on most microphones isn't the element, it's the surrounding mechanicals, industrial design and signal processing.

In Chinese culture, 10 represents "perfect", "flawless". If, I say if, your wish came true, well, iPhone 7 would probably be a lot more welcome than now. ;)
But at least there is a 10th anniversary up ahead.

I'm not going to say you're wrong, but for me and I'm sure some others, the problem with new models looking similar is that I think the currrent model looks terrible. I disliked it on the first iteration with iPhone 6 and all subsequent iterations. So it's not so much a criticism of re-using the same model, it's a criticism of the model itself and the disappointment of being stuck with it is just salt in the wound.

The 5S/SE is still the prettiest iPhone Apple has made. I wouldn't mind being stuck on that model (and in fact use an SE). Even the 5C was better looking, though certainly with a less serious flair.

I though the 5 in black was a great device, however in my opinion the 5s started apples ugly devices with the awful space gray color, and then when the iPhone 6 stuck with it it became truly awful. I was disappointed in the 7+ until I saw it, but the matte black is again a nice looking device.

A10 Chip & iOS10 was interduced with iPhone 7 last year, Apple has already begin production of A11 chip for iPhone 8. Sorry Your wish will never come true

@Sirious was making a joke about all "10's" for the tenth anniversary iPhone. Clearly you didn't understand that and Its fairly obvious the A10/iOS 10 was integrated into the iPhone 7, which we all know already.

And with TSMC starting addressing the A11 concerns, This means production can likely start around June.

Just a reminder, if Apple keeps raising the performance of their A-series chips like they have been for the past 3 generations, it means that the iPhone will have definitively faster CPUs than Intel Core M line.
I think a year or two ago Apple claimed that the fastest iOS devices were beating 90% of all laptops sold in speed.
