What does this have to do with this thread?????

Same here. All iPad upgrades have stopped in my family until the fingerprint sensor is released. My 32gb Air was a gift but that will be traded in for 128 GB air with fingerprint sensor.

I'm still not seeing the value of a fingerprint sensor on an iPad.

On the contrary I see great value. I'm a heavy user of my iPad and would expect that this feature would be a positive development for me as a user.

Maybe he was hoping for some revolutionary TouchID sensor capable of reading the fingerprint from under the display which would allow Apple to reduce the large area required for the physical home button and make the device much smaller.

I think it would be useful not to have to type in my password after app store purchases. I try to make my passwords fairly complex (numbers and letters) and typing this on the onscreen keyboard is not as easy as a physical keyboard so if a fingerprint sensor helps I'm all for it. (It wouldn't make me upgrade from my iPad air but i could see using it if I had it)

I don't get all these sites claiming this Ming-Chi Kuo is "very reliable". He makes the most obvious predictions, what do you expect? "All iPads and iPhones from now on will have Touch ID". You don't say?
Amazing isn't it. It was completely obvious right after iPad Air came out that it was ready for Touch ID when viewing the on line tear downs.
Edit: He also said that the 5.5" 64GB variant is the only one that will have a sapphire display. Well, I predict that a) There won't be a 5.5" variant; b) Apple won't include a sapphire display on a specific variant while leaving the other models with "regular" glass, making the whole iPhone line fragmented. Let's see which one of us gets this right.

You should start charging for your analytical skills. ####

Seriously though I'm thinking Apple has a different plan for the Sapphire they are making. Some are calling it a replacement for the front glass but Patently Apple has uncovered some really interesting patents that Apple recently acquired. The Sapphire could be for the display meaning a replacement for LCD. If this happens I can see Apple making it a high end feature until production catches up just like they have with Touch ID.

The rumors and patents surrounding Sapphires use with LED display technology is perhaps more interesting than anything I've heard in the last couple of years. The only question I have is how large can these displays be made? I also wonder if they are bright enough to be projection-able.

Imagine multiple user accounts in iOS 8 ... then the ipad fingerprint sensor would make perfect sense for me

Please don't! There is no place for user accounts on iOS devices.

Bingo... and thank You. I was hoping for some kind of an "on screen thing" and smaller bazels/iPhone.

Hi.

I'd like to order a 16 Wifi + LTE iPad Air 2 plus an iPhone 6 with 32GB. Please let me know when you want my credit card info.

Much appreciated.

Funny but I'd flip the storage size and put the larger amount in the iPad. I'm always tight for space on my 32 GB iPad and I don't have a lot of data or media on the device.

Or all these fingerprint scanners are for the iPhone. I'm unclear based on the article that I read where there's any proof that the fabrications are for different devices. Speculation only. Of course it makes sense that it would appear in the iPad - I just don't see any "proof" here.

It is a product of the rumor mill, you can't expect proof. You do understand that this sight is called MacRUMORS right? I really don't understand people that want proof to support obvious speculation.

That length is more use for the length of the battery not the display. Apple did file for a patent for a bar/button/sensor that goes right underneath the display with the actual fingerprint reader underneath the screen

Is the iPad Air 2 the iPad 6 or 7?

And is the iPhone 6 the iPhone 8 or 9?

At least the iPad mini 3 is correct or is it?

No, it's the iPad mini with Retina Display 2. :D

Seriously, I doubt there will be an iPad mini 3, as in non-Retina screen. The iPad mini with Retina will take over as the "lower cost" model, and the non-Retina mini will be history. Apple should just name its tables like its computers by leaving out the model revision number. There is no MacBook Air 2 or MacBook Pro 10 yet no one is confused on which is the latest model... well for the most part.

Depends on the user, you might see the value if you brought your iPad out of the house (which quite a few people do).

It's an Apple only sensor that increases the security of Apple iThings, bring it on Apple - that can only strengthen the brand.

Depends on what your priority is: I'd rather have less bezel and a little less battery with a larger display.

It's a portable device. I think if you took a poll of users battery life would be a priority. A larger screen at 7pm is useless if your phone is dead.

A bit of a cop out because this site tends to present itself more as a news site then a rumors site. But that being said - point taken. I'll start the MacRUMOR that these first batch of fingerprint sensors are actually being fabricated for the new time machine Apple has been secretly working on.

iPad Air 2 will be the sixth gen iPad. The next iPad mini w/ Retina Display will be the third gen iPad mini. If you count iPhone 5c simply as a repacked iPhone 5, then iPhone 6 will be the eighth gen iPhone.

The bezels (iPhone) are here to stay :(
Fixed the typo. Also, I thought that was a given for iteration of iDevices. Hence, I fail to see why or how that would have been different with the next one.

I really hope that all these rumors on the supply chain are indicative of something being anounced sooner than October -- like at WWDC. I am so ready to mortgage my house for a new ipad, iTV, and idontcarejustgiveittome :D:D:D

That length is more use for the length of the battery not the display.
Or because of the physical button and Apples design philosophy of a symmetrical phone.

I would rather have less bezel and a phone the same thickness as the 5s with good battery life.

Another Use

Besides all the obvious uses, how about an option in iCloud:

"Get the finger print of the jerk who just stole your iPad"
