these reports come out all the time and never turn out to be true. I honestly think whoever makes these reports does so strictly to manipulate TSMC stock price

I'm wondering where Apple has left to go at this point.

We'd been waiting for a bigger screen for a long time. We'd been waiting for NFC for a long time. We waited for Force Touch.

I guess they can do that edge-to-edge screen with no home button that we've been waiting for, but that seems like a gimick, not an actually useful feature.

I guess Apple could make it so that you can actually feel stuff on the screen. Like, Haptic feedback as opposed to Taptic feedback. Or some actual 3D features. Do we think Apple is going to have features like that ready for mass production within a year?
Higher resolution displays to view the full 4K video it can record.
Wireless charging or fuel cell batteries that last a week or more on a charge.
Integrated watch charger. I assume the watch will still depend on the phone (less maybe than now) but the phone will still be around so give us a way to top off the watch using the phone as a charger.

I already know the iPhone 7 will be amazing. A10 chip, an amazing fresh design that will carry out into the 10th anniversary of the 1st iPhone, and hopefully iOS 10 brings in an advanced Siri, I want it spooky like if im sad she'll know and try and cheer me up.

If you havent noticed NFC in it is useless.

If Apple adds wireless charging and an Amoled screen - they will continue their domination. A thicker iPhone 6 with a 5000 mAh battery wouldn't be a bad idea either. None the less Apple will add something to make us wantbto buy the next iPhone. - the A10 is a good start.

No bezels is a gimmick.

Not quite sure what you mean by a notification light... if you just mean an LED that flashes when you have a notification, that's already available in the Accessibility settings. It flashes your camera flash when you have a notification. So that can't be it.

Apple hasn't ever touted RAM before and I don't think they're about to start.

Nobody needs a terabyte of storage on their phone, and nobody ever will. The MacBook and MacBook Air cap out at 512 GB. The MacBook Pro, MacMini, and Mac Pro can be configured up to 1 TB. The Retina iMac is the only computer that Apple will ship beyond 1 TB - you can configure it to 3 TB. I wish I had a chart that plotted storage that Apple has offered over the years. I'm pretty certain you would see that it was just going up and up and up for several years, then it started falling when they hit 1 TB and now it has settled out where it is. Consumers no longer need as much local storage as they used to because most things are stored remotely. For the professionals who need insane amounts of storage, I'm pretty sure they primarily use external storage. Anyways, this won't be it, either.

Waterproof? Neat, but not a killer feature.

Wireless charging is a gimmick, but they might do it to be waterproof.

USB C? EDITED: I think Thunderbolt 3 is more likely than USB C. Thunderbolt 3 is backwards compatible with USB C, and quite a bit faster.

ORIGINAL: Gimmick. I am confused why Apple is pursuing Thunderbolt, USB C, and Lightning all at the same time, though.

Sapphire? Not a killer feature.

Built in LED projector? Definitely a gimmick.

One week of battery? I think if Apple were to make a battery for longer than 24 hours, they would aim for making it never need to be charged again. IE, solar powered.

So, no. None of these will be the defining feature of the iPhone 7.

What we have been waiting for is a bigger battery physically for 2+ day battery life. Even if an option. Inside the case, not a battery dongle.

I for one hope they keep the case design for another two cycles since the rounded edges really extended the product cycle in the 3GS. Shocking product lifecycle. Also gives accessory manufacturers and users needed stability.

Wireless charging is anything, but gimmick. I use it everyday without bothering to connect the cable and it also gives you a second way to charge if you brake the port. Just be real. How can it be a gimmick if it makes charging as tranparent as it can be right now. I get back home, i put my phone on the table and thats that. Its awesome.

He means a notification light, like what blackberry phones have had for a decade. You know what he means.

Sapphire is unquestionably a killer feature and would absolutely be THE defining feature of iPhone 7.

USB C in general is not a gimmick. You're one of those people who thought original USB was a gimmick and that we should all still be using PS/2 and serial ports.

And yes, an LED projector is a gimmick.

We didn't really 'wait' for ForceTouch. That was brand new with the AppleWatch, and only released in a final state in what? March?

Edge to edge LCD brings durability problems. I honestly don't bet on this one.

Waterproof or water resistant with sealed electronic modules like the AppleWatch. This likely involves ditching the mechanical home button for a capacitive button.

Some of these thing could come around next year with the new industrial design.

Embedding TouchID in the LCD. They have a patent on this, remains to be seen if it's practical. I have my doubts. Seems a little too science fiction.

An overhaul of iOS at version 10... iOSX? lol. For a more black based UI, and switching to AMOLED displays like on the AppleWatch for more energy efficiency.

iPhone 7 likely started development 2 years ago. iPhones probably have a 3 year development cycle. They are highly technologically advanced. They more than likely have engineering teams leap frogging each other. So it's not a matter of can they do x in the next year. They've likely been working on whatever they want in it, for the last year... or 2!

Exactly lmao why do people think Apple scrambles at the last minute to throw in features? When I looked up the manufacture date of my iPhone 5S it said it was made in 2012...

These phones are planned wayyy in advance.

That would be a terrible move the fact that there still selling those models lets the public know Apple is still supporting them and there not obsolete.

Just because Apple doesn't sell something doesn't mean that people don't feel supported. Idk anyone who has a 4S or 5C who feels slighted because they own those phones and Apple is no longer selling them.

The Palm Pre had wireless charging back in 2008. Very nice implementation which allowed you to use your phone on your night stand as a always on alarm clock. All the newer implementations are flat and unimpressive in my opinion. If Apple does it, I hope it follows closely with Palm's implementation. Also, this would make the material for the back of the iPhone less substantial than what we typically see in iPhones today.

Not sure why folks keep harping on 2 day battery life? While it would be nice, are there really daily situations where you don't have access to a charger through out the day? Do folks hate charging their phones while they sleep?

This is the phone I'm waiting for!
Can't wait for some tests of the A9 vs the A8. The A9 is also supposedly on a 16nm node. Mobile chips are getting so powerful it's a little bit insane.
Can't wait for the A10 to blow them all away!

if by removing the 16GB model they remove that lower price point (so the 64GB is the entry-level model but remains as costly as it is).
There's no need to remove it; just bump the specs. The cost of solid state storage continues to drop. But the time the iPhone 7 is out, Apple should be able to offer at least 32/64/128 for the same price without impacting their bottom line too seriously. That's the least they could do since they're touting the phone's 4K video recording.

If folks love 3D Touch about the 6s then Sapphire is slightly suspect. If measuring how much the surface deforms when you press it, then a harder surface is harder to deform. Sapphire doesn't reduce force detection down to zero ( it works on Apple Watches ) but Light vs. harder press may be compromised there.

USB C in general is not a gimmick. You're one of those people who thought original USB was a gimmick and that we should all still be using PS/2 and serial ports.

On a phone it is a gimmick. The Type C connector is taller than Lightning. If Apple is going for even thinner phone next time ( safe bet they are ) then the that connector doesn't really bring anything to the party.

So the iPhone 7 could be released summer 2016 instead of the fall?

Probably not. Given TSMC classic low initial yield results this more likely means that they will start trying to produce them with high yield in March. (i.e., they'll make thousands, but that is too low to start making phones ). Quite a good chance they actually won't get to high yields until May/June. It takes late June-Aug to build up enough inventory for the September launch bubble where demand greatly exceeds supply for a month or two.
