if the Lenovo A720 hits the shelves before the iMac then that will be where my cash is going ...

the A720 looks pretty good. for a whopping 1900 bucks, it packs 1TB, 8GB Ram, and not to mention 27" multi-touch. only drawback i see is that it uses mobile CPUs....pretty much a huge substitution for a laptop. but very ergonomic in its design.

what will apple do to keep up with its competitors????

Apple doesn't need to "keep up", it's already ahead.

Thank you for pointing that out and providing a link. That is a very good deal but it would only cost me $132. more for a new one from Amazon.com taking sales tax into consideration that I'd have to pay with Apple but not with Amazon on the same spec system. For the money, I'd prefer one with zero cosmetic issues and no mileage on it.

Actually, you still have to pay sales tax on Amazon, but you have to report it on your own. When you take that into consideration, the refurb comes out to be a lot cheaper.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Good one.

Technically he's right. If states ever found a way to enforce tax collection for goods purchased in other states, a lot of people would owe some serious dough. Instead, what they're all doing is giving Amazon corporate tax breaks to open some kind of office in their state so they can use Amazon to collect it. Not many states left that Amazon doesn't collect for.

Clearly you've never purchased an Apple refurb. They do have zero cosmetic issues and are 100% indistinguishable from a new one, plus the same warranty, plus the guarantee that they will be MORE problem free than a new one since they've been checked and double checked by a real person.

Are you serious? The Lenovo is more expensive than the base iMac but at the same time has inferior specs and substantially worse display. And they even stole the power-on button from Apple :/

Go with a new one

Whats with all the dopes complaining about someone starting "yet anther no iMac announcement" thread? I'm pretty sure you knew the topic of this thread before you opened it, so why open it? Better yet, why bitch about it? Idiots.

Agreed!

Yeah, I know he's technically right, except that no one but suckers pay it.

And the battle hasn't been fought in many of the states yet. Amazon got Illinois to overturn their law and is fighting it anywhere they don't have offices.

Actually, no I don't. I've been shopping with them since they were just an online bookstore. I'll take a pass on any moral or ethics lessons too please. The state of Taxachusetts gets plenty of money from me annually as it is.

Clearly you have not read the information directly from Apple about what you can expect with a refurb and that in fact, it may come to you with cosmetic defects. I just got that from the source. I'm happy for you if you have bought one and had good experience with that but Apple makes very clear that they do NOT guarantee it won't have minor cosmetic blemishes.

So my original point remains valid and still stands.

Why is everyone hung up about Tuesdays? After about 2006-2007 it became very common for Apple to release updated products on Wednesdays.

They say that just to cover their own butt. It's never been the case for anyone I know or myself buying refurb.

Wish I could blow off $132 like that.LOL
I've gotten 4 Macx refurb and all were just like new, no blemish or mileage marks and full guarantee.

I was starting to think about Getting the 5d mkiii instead. But new mac is more important.

Get yourself a Nikon D800 instead... Slightly cheaper and a better camera IMO. I handled both recently and chose the D800.

EDIT: Just noticed chippy posted the same thing!

It's certainly true that Apple can release new products any day of the week -- witness the New iPad just a couple of months ago. But it is typical for consumer products to be released on Tuesdays. It's a day of the week in which not much else happens, it would otherwise be the slowest retail day in most industries, and it gives manufacturers the Monday before to do final prep on their presentation material. A lot of times things like this make more sense when you think of it in the context of the work week both at the retail vendor's end and the publisher's/manufacturer's end.

hmmm.... If you try to convince viewers of copyright infringes, then you might as well join the suing bandwagon. I love apple products but you gotta be realistic and not dogmatic. which is why i stated the A720 uses a mobile CPU. I don't want a mobile CPU and that is why i haven't stated if i will be buying it or not, because i won't - if i want a PC, a Dell XPS 8500 is way better on the price as well specs. in that case, i dont want a PC either, just expressing my opinions about this new product on the market.......

2011
iMac - Tuesday
Mac Mini - Wednesday
MacBook Pro - Thursday (Early), Monday (Late)
MacBook Air - Wednesday

2010
iMac - Tuesday
Mac Mini - Tuesday
MacBook Pro - Tuesday
MacBook Air - Wednesday

2009
iMac - Tuesday
Mac Mini - Tuesday (Early), Tuesday (Late)
MacBook Pro - Tuesday (Early), Monday (Mid)
MacBook Air - Monday (?)

Tuesday is quite common, but indeed it is not the only day. Too lazy to go back any further. But iMacs have been consistently released on Tuesdays, so who knows!

I seem to remember more Wednesday releases than that, must have been during the 2007-2008 years. Too lazy to actually find out like you did :D
