Sure it does. The iPhone is less expensive than an iPod touch ($199 vs. $260 CAD). I already have a cellphone, so it's not like it's an added expense. I put the iPhone on the monthly cell plan I already had. Now I have a neat cellphone, iPod, PDA, and wifi device.

um the iphone is NOT cheaper than an ipod touch. the 199$ price point for an iphone is clearly subsidized in exchange for 2-3 year long contracts.

Subsidized or not, it's still cheaper if one was planning on paying for that level of cell phone service for the next 2-3 years anyway.

The actual phone is the worst part of the iPhone IMHO...

I compleatly agree with this.

I don't really understand the thread starters questino though. It seemms that he just dons't want the data (nothing to do with having 3g on or off).

Most providers with do this as long has you han'e signed a contract agreeing for a data pacakage for a fixed period.

Make sure you switch off your mail abd don't use any apps that need data however because casual data can be very expensive.

Read the post you quoted. I already had a cellphone, and I am going to have one for the next 3 years regardless. I just put the iPhone on my existing plan (actually that's a lie, I negotiated a better plan while I was ordering my iPhone). It's not like I'm suddenly paying $50 a month out of the blue, it was an expense I already had and would have had, iPhone or not.
