No way. I might attempt to deal with the situation myself though.

You know when you're watching a movie and you're screaming at the main protagonist "Why don't you just go to the police!?" as they try and sort out the events of the movie themselves?

That is you.

Not me. I would almost never trust the police to sort out a problem to my advantage.

Wow, ok, so I finally found out what happened after I called the cops: Some welfare people went round there while my friend and her siblings were at school (only the abusive Dad was home, since he's unemployed and on the doll) . They found the living conditions and environment in the house "unacceptable and inappropriate for minors to live in" and the Dad "unfit to raise kids" so they took my friend and her siblings off him and put them in temporary foster care :) The cops are going to charge the Dad with neglect and possession of some sort of drugs... Unfortunately they can't charge him with child abuse, since my friend is still in denial about the whole thing, so she won't tell the cops or welfare people that he hit her, beat her up etc :(

She seems alright, just a little freaked out and a bit nervous :) She doesn't have to go to school for a while, because the school gave her compassionate consideration, but she wants to after the weekend anyways, which is good :) She's going to get counseling as well, which will hopefully help with the denial thing... She did have a go at me later about how "she doen't like other people trying to run/control/interfere" with her life, which I guess was directed at me :( But she still wants to be friends :D

Good thing she didn't rage.:)

Snitches get stitches.

I wouldn't turn anyone in for anything. Never will I make a statement to police under any circumstance.

Ask a law professor, they'll tell you to do the same thing. Talking to the police can only hurt you even if you think you're trying to help someone.

Call me greedy but I'm watching my own ass. There's merit behind the general lack of trust between citizens and the police state. I've seen cops in Chicago do really messed up stuff to innocent people, myself included, and would never trust one as far as I can throw him.

And don't start with the "they serve and protect us" BS- you can serve me better by not harassing me over nothing. I've been abused by authorities enough to know better than to trust them. And I'm not a criminal of any sort, no record or anything. Not even a petty misdemeanor.

I completely agree with you. Not only would I not turn them in, but I would try to help them stay out of prison. I never talk to cops, don't trust them and would never give a statement against family.

Cuz aiding and abetting is such a tough guy thing to do.

Not turning someone in isn't aiding or abetting. There's no requirement to turn in a family member for any crime. Nice faux knowledge fail, though.

How's the weather up there on your soapbox?

Does your family know you're a total traitor? Or willing to be one at the drop of a dime(no pun intended)?

Forget just family, I would never make a sworn statement against anyone unless I had something personal at stake (being wrongly accused, exonerating a friend or family member, etc).
