Predictably, this works with beta 6.

Though, heed the dev team's new suggestion: DFU iDevice, install beta 6, then slide to power off. Worked for me, and I wasn't about to try defying it.

For whatever reason, I cannot get the iPad 1 beta 6 to install clean, no matter what. I just keep getting the Not Eligible error, and since most people haven't had this problem (where one device will install and the other will not), I'm not sure what's wrong. I just hope something will work out before the expiration date on September 14th...

As expected this works with the new redsn0w 0.9.8 beta 7 (released before iOS 5 beta 7 was released).

Point redsn0w to iOS 5 beta 6 (NOT beta 7) and you'll have no issues. Seems much faster than before as well for some reason.

Not sure. I don't plan on trying. A friend gave me a UDID slot for free today :)

If I read it elsewhere I'll update you though.

Never mind... it's SUPER-easy to get this working without a UDID.

All you do is install iOS 5.1.1 clean... then activate your iPhone (setting up as new). Then.... very quickly... manually select the iPhone 6 beta build in iTunes by using the UPGRADE option (NOT the restore option) and update the phone. Because the phone was just recently activated and verified by Apple, and because the update is so fast, iOS doesn't check for verification again and the phone is fully activated in iOS 6 beta when the update is complete!

Nice!

I wasn't going to play around with iOS 6 but my phone was needing a clean slate, so I decided to see if it would work.

I googled to see if anyone else mentioned this method and found this article on beta 1, which was exactly what okwhatev said.

I can confirm it still works for beta 2. :)

does anyone know where I can get Beta 2 or do I just need to install Beta 1 and then update to Beta 2?

You only need to restore to 5.1.1 then alt/shift+Upgrade to the beta the second it's possible after the phone activates.

Edit: just reread your post. I was curious myself whether the betas will OTA update without UDID, I'm not sure.
