Content still sucks.

I don't get how Sony Playstation can offer subscription tv but Apple can't??

It's 2016 what are you waiting for Tim Cook?!

:mad::mad::mad:

That is up to your local cable providers like in the USA. Even here their are some providers who do not authenticate apps.
here is also USA, but not all apps authenticate so I'm wondering how apple is doing the global search, my guess is the same as Hulu? I guess I will wait and see when the os coms out because as of now I'm gonna stay on 9 to see if they jailbreak it because I don't want to re-sign my apps every 7 days in the future.

Where can I get one of those remote control holders????

Not sure about the one in the video, but I use the official Apple iPhone dock. Charges your remote and looks seamless with Apple design.

You said 'in PR' I thought that meant Puerto Rico. Global search also goes by region I believe. Contact your local cable provider and ask them why they don't authenticate network apps.

I remember when the ATV4 was released and games *had* to support the Apple controller. Now they won't. Wonder if that initial decision hampered game development
Probably not. The Apple TV is not a good gaming device. It's about equivalent to a iOS game in terms of experience. Sure, it's on a big screen, but the default controller is horrible for gaming, and the processing inside is equivalent to an iPhone 6, which is reasonably powerful, but we're not talking about gaming level processing here. Nowhere near it.

They should do something about the awful remote. SO badly designed. I always skip ahead by accident. The two other people I know who use the remote hate it with a passion.

Thanks Tim for failing to design a simple remote

They did something about that already, happened an update or two ago. Fast forward/rewind now require you to pause first and it seems like they made the edges of the touch pad less sensitive. I miss being able to scrub forward without pausing but I don't miss the accidental fast forward/rewind as I pick up the remote and accidentally touched an edge of the touchpad.

It amazed me that dark mode took this long. I can't believe everyone at Apple thought bright white was a great idea for a TV menu. Dark mode should be the default. Lights are off you just finished watching a show and BAM! The room is filled with light and you are all blinded.

A bit dramatic but still. Do they really not have someone like Scott Forstall to tell them obvious design choices?

What happens when a show or movie is on and the scene is really bright? Do you get blinded?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with a clean, white interface. In fact, I find the new design to be beautiful and a nice departure from everything else out there, including the old ATV interface.

Samsung loved it so much they copied it almost down to the pixel for their smart TVs.

Dark mode just gives us an option, and it looks like it's in keeping with the light/dark option that's available for Mac and coming to iOS devices.

I would have liked dark mode at release though too. Even better, auto-switch it by time of sunrise/sunset. Two of my televisions are active 3D and thus dimmer brightness so I have the brightness on the TV cranked all the way up. Late at night as a show ends and it goes back to the menu it is a pretty big difference. Sure, there are some bright moments in movies and TV shows but generally not the level and amount of white on the AppleTV screens. I really like the interface changes they've made with the latest tvOS (the prior was pretty bad, particularly forcing all the third party [such that they were pre-app-store] apps into the same browsing structure as the Apple produced apps) but I would have preferred they kept the black backgrounds.

The additions are nice, but nothing too earth-shattering... The product is somewhat new so that's understandable, but I had hoped we'd get picture-in-picture. If there is one logical next step for that feature, it was to bring it to the Apple TV, but hopefully it'll make its way there in the next update.

PnP would be nice but I wouldn't say there was nothing earth shattering. Single sign on is HUGE.

to turn down sensitivity or even see if you prefer using your iPhone or iPad it makes a much larger touch surface

My only complaint is that the remote is symmetrical and sometimes I'll be swiping away on the glass for a while "wtf why isn't t working?"

I actually just noticed that a couple of days ago. Late is better than never

First thing I did. As the person mentioned above, they did implement something after so many people complained. It was still an awful experience for a very long time. I know my family who I bought an Apple TV4 thought it was an awful experience.

After 12 years of Apple products, quality has never been so low. Any low lever employee could have told them the remote was awful. Just another example of poor execution of a new product.

It Looks good, but a bit of form over function ;; most remot s are not looked at so much as touched.. Unless you manage to feel the volume controls you will struggle to use without taking your attention away from the tv.. It is not a game controller at all either, main complaint for me is that it's such a sensitive bit of equipment, like a screen less iPhone itself I'm worried I'll smash it if I don't treat it like (it actually is) made of glass and full of sensors.

If I had kids I wouldn't want them to touch it ever, I reckon it would be broken in the first 5 minutes.

I don't think you've updated. I haven't accidentally skipped ahead with the recent version. Before I updated, I did that sometimes when I picked up the remote and tapped the edge of the touch area.
[doublepost=1466834746][/doublepost]Do I still have to repeatedly tell it that I want audio to go through my AirPort Express speakers, or can it remember that and automatically connect to them?

I guess iOS 10 requires using curtains for dark mode.

haha....No problem for me.

"A new Single Sign-On option for pay TV apps is available in tvOS 10, allowing users to sign in once with their cable credentials"

This does noting for international users..

Now i understand why Foxtel is so ****** ... This slightly larger hocky puck does more then a DVR in most cases.

Yay for totally logical features that should have been added a long time ago despite tired excuse about needing to make things perfect when they are almost never so! Yay! :D

Good news! I love my Apple TV 4. More games with decent controllers will be well received in my household. My six year old can't use the official remote which shows you how badly designed that was but can easily find his way round an iPad (and has for several years). We have a wireless game controller that he uses instead and its a lot easier all round. It really should have come bundled with the machine when it launched!

Dark mode... thank youuuuuuuu! (Please bring it to iOS properly!)

Go for it MR, now's your golden chance to find negativity in this. You get prompted on your iPhone? That's just Apple trying to sell iPhones. Dark mode? That's Apple trying to not appear racist. Typical liberals. New remote app? That's another way of saying the old app sucks. Come on, let's view life though negative lens. It's the MR way!

Absolutely true. I truly don't know any other site where people are so negative about everything!!

Unless you stare all times at the menu, then you are going to be presented with all sorts of colors with different levels of brightens. Wonder what do you do then? Use sunglasses?
And Scot Forstall? Please.I think his iOS design was the most boring design ever. I can fall asleep just thinking of all that green field with stitched leather and wooden frames all over the place.

Typical liberals.

I'm impressed. This must be a record for bringing up politics in an unrelated topic in the first comment.
