Ok Guys I have dug into this pause button not working and the HEVC issue.

Apple Tv4k - Pause button doesn't work consistently when Match frame rate is enabled. With it disabled pause works for me every time. The APTV4k doesn't exhibit issues with HEVC files.

Apple Tv4 - Pause button didn't work with match frame rate enabled. I disabled and it still didn't work. I cycled it again and pause function has returned. With Match frame rate enabled the ATV4 will stutter on occasion with HEVC files and some files (Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision) have audio delay and stutters. None of this existed before the beta.

As far as I can tell this pause button issue is linked to bluetooth and airplay not communicating properly with the remote as I have lost functionality on other bluetooth connected devices but some functionality remains.

While troubleshooting this i also noticed that Apple music does not work at all on any of my Apple Tv devices (3 of them) it just always says "not playing".

I have been using beta's since the apple tv4 came out and have never experienced issues that impact the core functionality as much as this beta. If I was to hazard a guess I would assume 1.3 Beta 2 will be out first thing Tuesday.

I haven’t had any issues with play/pause button even with native frame rate enabled. I typically only watch from the computers app for home sharing or the 2 iTunes apps on the Apple TV. Are you experiencing this more on third party apps?
I know an older version of the Boomerang cartoon app had a play/pause button issue when it first launched. You had to click the trackpad for play/pause. They had it fixed pretty quickly with their following update.

Perhaps related, the Apple TV won’t keep a connection with my Bluetooth keyboard. Upon connecting, it immediately drops the connection.
Sounds similar. I’ve never had a keyboard connected since I can use my phone with the remote app. I’ll have to give this a shot and see what happens.

Hoping to get on a 1 week turnover this cycle as opposed to holding out 2 weeks between b1&2

Yep, same play/pause button thing not working and ATV app in iOS can’t find ATV issues.

Restart fixes it until next video playback.

I don’t know if it has been mentioned or not, but resetting the ATV to factory defaults restores the Pause/Play key functionality. Kind of a lot of work, but I was curious.

That may be why I’m not having the problem. When I installed the beta on my 2 devices, I did it as a restore to both.

I encountered the problem and tried a full factory reset but the play pause button still exhibits on the 4th gen.

Its pretty difficult to use Netflix - is there anyway to to go back to a previous OS or turn off the beta?

You can restore via iTunes for 4th Generation and below. 4K owners like me are out of luck.

I have the same issue. Can’t you click the trackpad though to pause in Netflix?

Indeed I can but everything in my HT setup runs off a Logitech harmony which just uses that standard transport controls rather than the touch pad. I can of course bring out the Siri remote but its just award to explain to other people - oh if you use apple tv you have to use the apple remote and oh the apple remote doesnt work either so use the touchpad #firstworldproblems

I have the exact same issue and thought I was going crazy! I even erased and restored the ATV using the ISPW manually and that didn't fix it.

The only way to get back remote connection is to reboot the AppleTV.

I have the exact same issue with this beta. It’s so frustrating.

They have certainly tweaked video playback. Contrast is blooming for me, and the 'time remaining' bar now only shows the total time of the video file, which is a change from before. I also have the play button issue.

my controller stopped working with this beta.. it doesn't even recognize it, tried charging it and nothing.
im still able to control it via my Harmony controller or the ios remote app.

I thought something looked different in my videos.

Anyone else have the music "not playing" bug? It mainly happens after using Netflix for me, the only reliable way round it is to reboot the device. Sometimes force quitting Music and/or Netflix helps but it's not full proof.

Yes i had the same issue. It only fixes with a reboot for me and will work for a few days or hours then do it again and I need to reboot.

So remote has an issue with clicking play/pause, and the remote app can't find the Apple TV in this beta (it can find the other Apple TV that is not on beta, so the issue is not with iOS 11.3 beta). Anybody else with this?

Edit: remote app works fine if nothing is playing on the ATV, but as soon as I start playing something on e.g. Netflix or music, it can't find the ATV.

For me, playing a video in Netflix immediately kills connection to the remote app and also frequently disables the play/pause button on the physical remote.

I can reconnect to the remote app without restarting by opening the app switcher and closing Netflix.

I don't know if it is related, but Netflix has also been screwy for me since updating. Some titles just don't want to play, with an infinite red spinning circle being shown. If I close the app and start another it plays instantly. If I then back out again and try the first film again, exactly the same spinning circle.

Thanks! It happened for me every time I used Netflix, which unfortunately made it too annoying to keep, so I've reverted back to 11.2.5 for now. Hopefully there'll be a new Beta along soon to try, as I was really enjoying 24fps with frame rate matching.

How do you revert back? Didn’t realise you could?

I used a USB C male to USB A male or USB C male cable (I think it needs to be USB 3.1 spec too), to attach the ATV to a Mac. Then you use iTunes to restore back to 11.2.5. I had to download the .ipsw file from the internet though, as the Apple TV recovery server was constantly reported as unreachable by iTunes.
