I still got my Apple TV HD here. I am waiting for new one come out to upgrade and I now need thread border router included in Apple TV (HD doesn't have that).
I've also been waiting for this. As a long-overdue bonus, Homekit will finally support 4K, too.

The latest Apple TV 4K 3rd they sell currently is 4 years old. FOUR. (Or very close to that).

When is the new one coming out? I am NOT upgrading one of my ATVs to a one that is 4 years old.
Considering the rumor is that the new Apple TV and the HomePod with screen are heavily dependent on Siri, it’s highly unlikely either will be released until homeOS/tvOS is released with all the other OS’es sometime in September. They’re not going to release those products while the OS’es are still in beta.

Meanwhile, the Apple TV 4K (3rd generation, 2022) is less than 4 weeks away from being the oldest model ever, and when they finally release a new model it's going to have a 3-years old CPU.

So I now have an unsupported iPad Pro, Watch AND TV HD.. nooooo!

I don't care about the TV box, it will probably be in use until Apple and Netflix drops the support completely from their streaming apps. I see no reason at all to upgrade it as I still dont have a modern tv with 4K and HDR. Watch on the other side.. I almost have to upgrade that one since its in use 23/7.

Good to know about the compatible models. 2017 models did get support for a good amount of time. Also waiting to see new Apple TV hardware.

It should still do watch things fine, and even most watch app things for a while yet, right? Same as an older TV.

I'm still using my 4K 2021 version, didn't see the need to upgrade to the 2022 model and I'm still rocking the OG HomePods together with my Sony X95K 85 inch TV

If they finally decide to upgrade both of these this year, i'm all in.

I still can't get over how good the OG HomePods sound... I ended up using them to replace my Denon, Bowers and Wilkins setup in my living room, I really didn't think they would ever replace a decent Audio setup.

I just wish a tvOS release would let me delete apps from the “Purchased” section that are either obsolete, no longer supported or are irrelevant to being used on an Apple TV.

No biggie. Seems to be little to no news anyways. The 1st gen 4K did not even get the first attempt at Liquid glass (thank goodness) even though it did get tvOS 26.

It's the security updates that concern me. It would be one thing if they clearly said "we'll continue to support devices that no longer run the latest software with security updates for a minimum of 2 years" or something, but they don't. We're forced to rely on their generosity. These are internet connected devices that are on my network that can interface with my other devices, that store my account information. Thats what upsets me the most about this yearly OS release cycle.

The third GEN Apple TV 4K works really well. The second GEN is better than fire TV garbage and Roku but it has a few issues. Sometimes it pauses sometimes it’s slow but most of the time it’s fine Siri is slow on the second GEN.

Ummmmm...common sense? Would you buy a brand-new 2022 car today, and of course at today's prices, not 2022 prices? WHY NOT?!?! I bought into PLEX because I was tired of waiting and will never go backwards in functionality now that I have done so.

Must be nice. My OG HomePod developed a random clicking noise. Not present when music was playing so I sold it.

My HomePod 2 is randomly playing music despite listening for Siri turned off. Didn't happen before iOS 26 but that doesn't mean its not ghost touch issue.

Might be ditching it and buying Sonos 100 instead.

My OG Homepods did that and it was the reason we sold them off.

It was incredibly annoying (disturbing almost) to have them start randomly blasting in the middle of the night for no reason.

A lot of people would upgrade their Apple TV 4K (1st generation, 2017) or older, if Apple actually released new hardware. No one is going to buy the 2022 model in 2026.

I would operate under the assumption that if/when a 4th gen is introduced, the 3rd gen would be immediately marked down in price.

So then it's just a matter of the price difference and feature difference.

For me, updated hardware (3rd vs 4th gen) probably doesn't matter. I only have a 1080p screen (and whenever I update that it'll just be a 4k display that 3rd gen supports anyway). And a small cheapo sound bar.

Also, I use the 3rd gen as Homekit/Matter hub.

It might be better at gaming? Not sure what else

X-Factor:
The only thing that would catch my interest is if it was the only gateway to get better Homekit automations via AI.
