Incoming people complaining about how Apple isn't giving us the a XBOX level experience for gaming even though data shows people aren't looking to do a ton of gaming on it.

I'm not surprised developers are making $100 on a good day. 75% of all the apps are garbage. Stick-figure games, fireplace simulators, fish tanks, calculators, and on the bottom of the sludge, a monthly menstrual calendar.

Apple blew it by not having any killer apps.

2600 apps? I feel like there's about 60, tops. They need to do some serious work on discovery.

It's like all the other App Stores. 99% of it is junk that looks like a kid built it and isn't worth downloading. The good stuff gets surfaced and the junk goes away.

They need to do something about the siri remote requirement for game controls. I feel like most developers don't want to dumb down controls or reinvent controls for the siri remote. I'm surprised Apple didn't just make their own game controller and sell it as an accessory.

Perhaps Apple would allow developers to handle the Siri Remote the way Super Meat Boy handles Keyboards?

If you try playing Super Meat Boy with a Keyboard, it'll tell you that you're making a bad choice and that you should swap to an actual controller at every moment it gets (IE, loading screens). You can beat the game (at least the light portion) with just a Keyboard... I know because I did. But I do wish I had a controller.

Maybe I'll do that with the game I'm working on right now. I don't think it's feasible to actually play my game with the Siri Remote... like, yeah, you can, but you're going to be much slower than people playing with other controllers. In multiplayer I'm thinking it'll just show what controllers everyone else is playing with, so people will quickly realize how much better any other controller is than the Siri Remote.

Ya..no Amazon and no 4K. Hardly.

For the general public and not the extremely biased sampling of tech savvy users in this community, 4K still isn't a big deal. Also, I'm not sure why people keep blaming Apple and Google for the lack of Amazon support.

I agree with you about the 4K, but I am not sure why people consider any disappointment about the lack of Amazon on the ATV4 as blaming Apple.

It is crazy how people rush to defend Apple when Apple doesn't need defending.

You know what would be hilarious? If AppleTV catalyzed cord-cutting to such a point companies like Disney rued the day they wouldn't settle for skinny bundles and found themselves capitulating for even less.

I was looking at the Guitar Hero game in the ATV app store yesterday and noted that it said the Guitar Hero controller is required to play the game. How is this not a violation of the same rule that prevents other games from not requiring a real gaming controller? I appreciate Apple doesn't want people buying games that they can't play (and I think Guitar Hero was free), but can't they just make you click an extra time to certify that you know you need a special controller before downloading the game? They could even have a parental control to require a parent's password if the parent wanted it.

EDIT: Just found this info:

Hardly. The device has been out a little over a month since release.

It's a great start. Wait another two or three months with more devs kicking in and it will be excellent. In a year, outstanding. Just like it was with the App Store for the iPhone and iPad.

If there are 2,624 apps in the tvOS App Store, I clearly am not searching correctly. I've found nowhere near that many apps, and really, there's about 10-15 that are worth a damn at this point. Why would I want a calculator on my TV?

We all looked forward to an App Store on the Apple TV, but outside of Plex, Infuse, and maybe Pandora, most of the apps that are any good (Hulu, Netflix, WatchESPN, HBO, etc.) were already available on the old Apple TV.

What's apps I use Apple TV 4 for in order of most used:

#1 Hulu - and it's great.

#2 Asphalt 8 - I could never play this game on a phone or iPad again.

#3 YouTube - horrible app on the Apple TV but works well enough

#4 Netflix - kinda unorganized and lame interface but again works fine

#5 Music - perfect now with the update for Siri with Apple Music

#6 Tv shows - only use it for supergirl and limitless, it sucks in that it doesn't tell you if there is a new episode out because it will only show your purchases, so you have to go into the App Store, search for it then click on it again to show the new episode, vs just clicking on the shows you watch recommendations, or maybe it was a bug that happened to me a couple of times.

#7 fireplace hd - nice crackling fireplace, I leave it on sometime at night when I'm not using my tv

#8 Aquariam - very nice videos of real life aquariums

What apps I want to have on Apple TV:

Tinder - this would be fun as a group of friends - but I guess you could always mirror it from your phone.

Superhero games - Spider-Man, batman, injustice

Safari - pleaseeeee

I am not blaming Apple, but the lack of Amazon doesn't make the ATV4 a better device. I hope it comes soon.

You want Amazon to give you their service on an Apple product. And what does Apple give it's services to? What do they share?

Can't have it both ways, can we.

Two things need to happen:

- Beeing able to access the TV App Store through Safari or iTunes. You can't link at the moment, and there is no easy way to discover apps.

- Let the dumb rule of everything-has-to-be-able-to-be-played-with-the-remote go. I want Madden and World of Tanks, there is no way to play serious games with the remote so developers won't jump on board.

Best. Streaming box. Ever. Apple is doing amazing work lately!!!
wait a minute....
Its not the best streaming box, its the best airplay box. I like the aTVs, but I'm not blind
