Need more str4eaming apps. Starz, Encore, Vudu, Amazon,

This is what is really surprising. I know you can argue that Amazon may or may not come to Apple. But all of the most basic and rudimentary apps streaming on roku should be standard on Apple TV. I shouldn't have to jump for joy cause they ported a Pandora app lol.

And gaming will never be any good unless they allow controller only games. Otherwise the games will be pretty useless.

I was thinking (Please do not hate me just because)...

This is not iOS. So... Does the ban of Adobe Flash Player holds on this device too? It's not a mobile device, so no power problems, the processor is more than capable, the RAM is more than sufficient, no security concerns...

Imaging you could play ALL games of Newgrounds and Kongregate on the big screen in full screen and watch the animations Hi Def...

Imaging those two platforms working together with Apple to create revenue...

This would sell!!!

Numbers are good..

Why wouldn't App store on tvOS be similar......? It IS a better experience... to many...

to others, we just like our iOS devices :D *hugs his iPad Air 2*

There may be no ads YET. but don't worry.. Apple will find a way...

Same thing started out with iOS... No ads in apps, then Apple released their own adverting for developers.... The same will be true with tvOS i believe..

Its just another device after all. Ads can be overlayed like Youtube does them, in which case developers may not even have a choice,

If your gonna offer free games anyway, it make sense to put ad's.

Garbage data presented for clicks. Most of the apps are amateurish and not compelling. And app discovery is a scandal given Apple's years of experience with the iTunes and iOS app stores. Apple went into ATV saying it was a hobby. Four generations later it still feels that way in many respects.

So far I'm pretty underwhelmed by third party ATV apps. Aside from games and the obvious media apps (the vast majority of which are available on ATV3), what apps are good? What should I check out? I haven't found anything particularly interesting or well executed. Take Zillow, for example. I'd love to be able to browse real estate on the big screen, but the app is downright terrible compared to the website or its iOS counterpart. I'm waiting for that one (non-game) app that really shows the potential of ATV, but so far I haven't seen it. And yes, Plex and Infuse are cool.

Weirdly, the QVC app is great and what I see as being the closest thing to the possible future of interactive TV. I'm surprised more people on here haven't mentioned it. Oceanhorn is gorgeous and great fun. I actually really like the Mountain Goat game for a quick 5 minute distraction, but I find it much better with the controller. Asphalt 8 is good fun as well. Impulse GT is also a good racing game (with the controller). I am in agreement with most that the remote requirement makes some of the games have weirdly forced interactions. I'm looking forward to Gameloft porting some of their first person shooters.

The tvOS App Store will obviously be a success as it's the only way to get apps on your Apple TV (like iOS App Store). The problem with the Mac App Store is that it's optional and people would rather continue downloading apps via the browser like we have done for years.

Great start to the new Apple TV! But would love to see more "premium" games. Like SquareEnix brining some of the Final Fantasy games they have out for iOS to tvOS.

Man, considering square efforts with its "premium" games I don't think that would be possible. They would need to rework the game to make it playable with the siri remote only and we know square doesn't like to work.

You want Amazon to give you their service on an Apple product. And what does Apple give it's services to? What do they share?

Can't have it both ways, can we.
What does apple share?

Also iTunes, Quicktime, iCloud/Photostream all work on Windows.

Amazon wouldn't be "giving" their app to Apple, they would be opening their subscription service up to a user base that spends more than any other. They wouldn't do it out of the goodness of their hearts, but they may do it to make money if they are smart.

Apps may be appearing at a rapid rate, but the quality so far is really in the bin. Virtually none of the top iOS games are on the Apple TV (perhaps due to the absurd necessity of using the remote), and even on the streaming front things are utterly bleak outside America.

No Amazon Video, no BBC iPlayer, no All4, no MUBI, no Demand 5, no Spotify, etc. Odd too how some of the apps that are there, such as Now TV and YouTube are incredibly bare bones and downright ugly, and far, far worse than their equivalents on the Roku and PS4.

What do people expect after a few months?
Apps on phones are big business because EVERYBODY has a phone. If you have a family of 5 every one of them will have a phone and it will always be with them. Whereas any console, streaming box of tv is generally going to be 1 per household and is only used when you have the time and are at home.

AAA consoles make sense because people make the time to use them. It's an investment, a hobby etc... Apple tv could be that but it's going to take commitment from developers. Apple has provided the platform it's up to games dev's to make the case for someone to stop what they are doing and make time to play a game on the apple tv.

I think developers are really strange. They are like musicians really. They seem to expect that just because you make something and it was hard to do you should always get paid. It's just bs. Entertainment is not a neccessity. No one HAS to get paid for anything entertainment wise.

If i were developing games I would be happy with the $100 a day at the moment and use the lack of activity to build a product that drove people to the Apple TV. You have to drive the demand. Make something unmissable. Instead of expecting people desperate to be entertained to buy your product because you manage to appear first on a search engine.

Dev's have never had it so good. They have to deal with none of the challenges of distribution, development cash or promoting now that their is twitter and facebook. But still they moan... and the blame Apple for everything! Make your own money, make product that people have to have. Stop blaming others.

Best. Streaming box. Ever. Apple is doing amazing work lately!!!

Will be asking for a refund for my ATV4.
I may have to restart it 10 times plus a night and more.

I have ripped most of my CDs/DVDs onto a Mac Mini so I can stream then using home sharing.
When ever I add anything new to iTunes, the ATV4 falls over, no streaming, no netflix, no NBA, no news.... I get a slew of different error messages though.
"Turn of home sharing"
"unsupported media type"
"Network not found"
among a lot of other errors.

The solution is to wait until all the files have been added to iTunes and then restart the ATV4 (sometime multiple times) .....or do what I did, unplug the damn thing, put the ATV3 back into service and continue without the crashes.

Updating TVos only made things worse.

The ATV4 is singularly the worst Apple product I have used.

Apple needs to allow folders .. It's very inefficient to scan through all these apps on one page..
It's ridiculous! Games .. Screensavers , channels all mixed up on one page !

Also apple needs to allow us to creat favorites folderS for orginizing what we like. Way of consolidating programing from different apps ... Example of such folders could be ( my favorite syfy, favorite news, favorite sitcom.. Etc) Each folder can show a dot with a number inside ( like ios mail) showing designated new content that has not been watched or something along those lines )
my stupid dvr is capable of some orginization. Without this orginizationsl tools at the core of TVOS .. It will be mess and inefficiant !

Not "will be" it absolutely is.

I have over the years ripped al of my DVDs onto a Mac mini server with a RAID array attached so I can stream it from anywhere in the house (grandkids on the iPad, me in the lounge, etc), worked brilliantly on the ATV3, the ATV4 has been unplugged because it is a dog.

Anyway, when you have something like M.A.S.H, Buffy, Angel, Stargate, etc etc you end up with a VERY long list of TV programs which you have to scroll though because each series is listed
Angel Season 1
|_ Episode 1
|_ Episode 2
|_ etc
Angel Season 2
Angel Season 3
etc etc etc

What I SHOULD have is
Angel
|_ Season 1
|_ Episode 1
|_ etc
|_ Season 2
|.... etc
Buffy
|_ Season 1
|_ Season 2

Just think, you only need 12 programs with 7 series each and you have to scroll though a list of 84 items before you can open that last series and then you may need to scroll down a list of 20+ episodes to watch the one you want.
The new remote is appalling when you have to scroll though a huge list, danger of getting RSI in the thumb.

TVos was certainly NOT tested with large libraries

Just think of scrolling down a list of say 100 shows with 10 series each, thats 1000 items to scroll though.

And don't say Siri, it does not work in the country I live in.

You have to becareful. On another thread, I pointed out some of the issues you mention, along with having to restart the ATV4 to get Netflix working, and the random restarts that happen, and I was labeled an Apple basher or something similar.

Also, a few posts said that I must be using it wrong.

The ATV4 is singularly the worst Apple product I have used.

I wouldn't say the worst, at least for me. The only Apple product I have ever returned was the 2006 Intel Mac mini core solo. That was horrible.

I wouldn't call the Apple TV the worst product I bought recently. Much like the watch I just think it's over priced. I don't see the value in paying more other than other streaming devices, other than you are paying for the Apple name brand.

Maybe try and give Plex (or Infuse) a shot. Apple's mantra "It just works" seems to be more applicable to certain third party solutions nowadays. Plex is one of them.

A little common sense might tell you that you have a bad box and all you have to do is exchange it

He could have a bad box, but I don't think so. I think it is software related.

There are many other complaints about similar issues. Maybe they are all bad too?

If all those problems were widespread then it would have been reported by the media, That is a ridiculous amount of problems. The majority of people are not having that many issues
