If all those problems were widespread then it would have been reported by the media, That is a ridiculous amount of problems.

If this was an iPhone, I bet it would be, but I don't think the media cares so much about the ATV that sells a fraction of the iPhones. There has been lots of issues of many different Apple products that have not gotten media attention. It doesn't mean that these issues are not effecting a lot of people.

The majority of people are not having that many issues
You are probably right about this.

I think the poster was probably in the minority for the amount of issues he had, but there has been a lot of people posting issues on this forum and others.

I have experienced several issues with the ATV4 myself, but most of them seem to fix themselves.

Funny how gaming is the biggest and yet they refuse to invest in it, why require the remote for your game to be allowed on the store? It just means all the games will be ****, you should allow developers to require a controller.

Plus there are no apps for the TV we watch here in the UK, just Netflix (which sucks here) and Youtube... which you wouldn't want to use because you cannot navigate with your phone, the search options suck on the TV.

Why can't you use your phone as a remote? It would be a lot better and why I pick Chromecast over Apple TV.

You can use your phone as a remote since the last update.

Games get more and better and some have a different gameplay with the standard remote than with the Nimbus Controller (like Raymans adventure) - I guess this is the way to go for developers...

And yes, Netflix US is better so why not use a DNS service?

You may have a bum unit. I use mine all the time to watch movies and shows on my Mac mini in my office streamed to my living room without issue.

Will be asking for a refund for my ATV4.
I may have to restart it 10 times plus a night and more.

I have ripped most of my CDs/DVDs onto a Mac Mini so I can stream then using home sharing.
When ever I add anything new to iTunes, the ATV4 falls over, no streaming, no netflix, no NBA, no news.... I get a slew of different error messages though.
"Turn of home sharing"
"unsupported media type"
"Network not found"
among a lot of other errors.

The solution is to wait until all the files have been added to iTunes and then restart the ATV4 (sometime multiple times) .....or do what I did, unplug the damn thing, put the ATV3 back into service and continue without the crashes.

Updating TVos only made things worse.

The ATV4 is singularly the worst Apple product I have used.

I've had absolutely no issue. So are you suggesting my box is defective because it works? Your assumption that there is a wide spread software issue is based on anecdotal evidence.

He could have a bad box, but I don't think so. I think it is software related.

There are many other complaints about similar issues. Maybe they are all bad too?

Of course, Apple will need to entice developers to the platform for it to be as successful as the iOS App Store, and that could be an uphill battle. TouchArcade editor-in-chief Eli Hodapp recently spoke to multiple tvOS developers who have popular apps and games in the tvOS App Store, many of whom are earning $100 "on a good day" with revenue that's been trailing off since the Apple TV launched.

I just wrote my thoughts in a medium article.

I'm am not sure where you thought I said your box was defective, because I didn't.

People get so touchy when complaining about the ATV4.

ATV4 logic: have a huge amount of flash storage and then neuter the apps by limiting their install footprint to 256MB.

Also: no 4K, no 3D, still no ability to debug captive login networks that require at least a basic HTML parser.

How do I use my phone as a remote? When it asks me to put the password up, I have no option other than using the horrible on screen keyboard which is THE WORST and a big reason to why I don't even bother. How do I just view an app and choose to watch a video from it like I can Chromecast? The screen mirroring sucks, Chromecast doesn't mirror it talks directly to the server.

You have WORSE gameplay with the remote, the thing is **** and Rayman is just an auto scrolling casual dumbed down pos.... Rayman Legends it ain't.

Why should I have to use a DNS service? I want to use Amazon since I subscribe to prime, but oh no it isn't there, BBC iPlayer? No, 4oD? No, ITV? No

NO NO NO NO NO

Back to Apple my one goes.

2600 apps? I feel like there's about 60, tops. They need to do some serious work on discovery.

True, the only way I got behind the promoted apps is via browsing by the first letter of the name.
Anyways, 99% of all these so-called 'apps' is a total waste.

For the general public and not the extremely biased sampling of tech savvy users in this community, 4K still isn't a big deal. Also, I'm not sure why people keep blaming Apple and Google for the lack of Amazon support.

Because it is easy to blame what's right in front f you :)

I wish they would buy Nintendo with all that cash. The next Apple TV would probably surpass the gaming power of the current Nintendo. Nintendo has a great catalog, and that would be owned by Apple moving forward.

Apple has 1 Billion iOS devices, 10 Million Wii U unites have been sold. Their best selling game was Mario Cart at 5 Million, or 50% penetration. Only nine games have broken the 1 million units sold barrier. If Apple owned the game catalog and released a new game, they would only need 1% of devices to buy a game to hit a Million sold, or about 2% to get the same revenue. (If $14.99 = $30 revenue for Apple, and probably what Nintendo wholesales the game for in the channel)

They could offer games for 14.95 at release, then discount to $9.99 and $4.99 with time. I could imagine a killer release having 25 Million sales at the first pricing level, and maybe 25 Million more sales with time at the discounted prices. Games could be built ground up to work on iOS, but advanced levels could be turned on in the port to tvOS.

Am I the only one that just isn't finding any of these new apps to be anything I'd actually... *use*?

The only new app I've added, that I actually use, that wasn't already on the old AppleTV, is PlutoTV.

In fact, I find that the new Netflix UI on the new AppleTV is worse than the old app on the old AppleTV.... Only change to the Netflix app I've enjoyed is the "Siri, what did she just say" feature. That feature actually *works* and works well. It's the only reason the Siri Remote isn't buried in a bin or drawer somewhere..

I was definitely expecting a different experience, and had hoped for more apps that would interest me.

Maybe by the time racing starts in 2016, NASCAR (NASCAR Mobile, RaceView, FansChoice, RaceBuddy) Indy, IMSA, WRC, WEC, AUS V8 Super, and Speed51will add some AppleTV apps that will get my motor running?

Your info is outdated. Apps can download a lot more content after they are installed.

Also, you and about 10 other people truly care about 4k and 3D. Most of us are just fine at 1080.

I been saying this. Trying to browse on the ATV4 Netflix app is horrible. I have been using my ATV3 to browse, and watching the stuff on my ATV4.

The only thing that I have found that is better on the ATV4 Netflix app is that it is visually better.

Concerning games: "Sparkle 2", "CubeRunner" (was one of the first good iOS games for iPhone...) and "Impulse GP" are the newest noteworthy additions to my games collection on Apple TV. I received the Bluetooth guitar for "Guitarhero live" but had no time to try it out yet...

Man, considering square efforts with its "premium" games I don't think that would be possible. They would need to rework the game to make it playable with the siri remote only and we know square doesn't like to work.
Why would that be an issue? Most of Squares game use only two buttons, and movement can be done with the touchpad. The problem would be rebuilding for app thinning, but not the controls.
