Great, apple, you are gonna make millions of customers' 'new iPad' obsolete in just 7 months, just so you can push the idiotic 'lightning connector' which offers no high speed transfer and simply serves as a medium to get more money from accessory makers.

What are you talking about here.

If this is true, this iPad must at least be thinner, that and reversibility are the only advantages to lightning. You lose a lot for those two features, so the iPad better not only have one of them!

I would imagine this will be a major update. As to Lightning it is a major improvement. By the way the iPad really doesn't need to be thinner. It is OK the way it is and frankly the battery capacity is a huge plus.

I wish they would bump up the storage capacity one level at the same price point. It would cost them about $3 to do so.

really hope we get the A6 processor. it will help out a bit with iOS 6 and the retina display!

Yes, I'm sure you're right. The 30 pin accessory market will disappear overnight despite the fact that millions of 3 generations of iPads, and 2 of the 3 iPhones still sold have it. And I'm sure app developers will immediately ignore the 3rd generation iPad, just as today new apps only run on the 3rd generation iPad and iPhone 5, and no previous models...

Really???

Unless they'd be able to clock it much higher, the A6 wouldn't help much pushing the pixels as the total sum of GPU power isn't much more than the A5X. It would help give the iPad a more up to date CPU though. What we really want to see in a retina iPad is an A6X :)

So if these revised version come out in November, it'll be outdated in 4 months??
Sounds like a Samsung to me!!

if this is true i wonder how soon you will be able to purchase? right after the keynote or november 2nd as well?

This is going to confuse consumers..this was an actual quote from my friend who asked me if she should wait to buy the iPad until after this announcement (after I mentioned a tweaked iPad possibility from reading rumors on this site).

"So how will I know if I have the NEW New iPad or the OLD New iPad? Will they still offer the OLD OLD iPad? {referring to the iPad 2}"

Get ready to explain all of this to your parents, your grandparents, and everyone else this coming holiday season.

Can't handle progress?

Obsolete - hardly. The iPad will run circles around most hardware on the market right now. A more significant update would just mean that Apple will have no competition.

As to lightening, I'm not thrilled with a lock out and would prefer an open interface. However from the mechanical and electrical standpoint this should be a far better interface.

i also hope it doesnt take as long to charge! thats the worst thing about the current iPad 3!

Oh don't you worry, they'll release the same iPad 3, with lightning connector, 0.1mm thinner and 5% lighter and takes 20% less time to charge. and the best part is? apple fanboys will be drooling over it with their wallets open

An iPad isn't a gallon of milk with a shelf life. Last month's iPad is in no way "obsolete," especially if all they're doing is pushing the "idiotic lightning connector" as you say.

Wanna see real obsolescence within a few months of purchase? Buy an Android device. At least last month's iPad will still get OS updates. ;)

those SKU numbers are a bit different than the current SKU numbers for the iPad so it has to be a major upgrade I would think?

That's ridiculous. It's a stupid charger that has absolutely no function whatsoever. It doesn't charge your device faster, nor does it sync your media faster. Why is Apple trying to push out every iDevice with this new connector? Might as well update the iPod Classic with 'Lightning' while they're at it.

That is a possibility, but there will probably be a few upset people with an iPad that went out of date faster then an Android phone.

Yet unlike an Android phone, it won’t stop getting software updates before you’ve even finished paying for it :p

Your parents, grandparents and everyone else couldn't care less. To them it's an iPad. Period. Only geeks care about third generation this or that or 30 pin or lightening whatever.

Well the lightning connector to USB cable is..cheaper than Tweetbot!

No matter. Regardless of what is added, I won't be buying another full-size ipad until 2014. So I guess I'll be skipping a generation (or two) much sooner than I thought.

In the meantime I'm gonna lock in a selling price for the ipad 3 with Amazon in case the ipad mini blows me away.

Why would they not just wait until it is actually redesigned? It seems too soon for a heavily revised model.

Because this way, some people will buy the Lightning iPad 3 and again buy the new iPad 4 next year. If Apple waited, they would lose out on the interim sales.

Or in an alternate universe, apple is so concerned about their customers that they want to give them the opportunity to improve the quality of their lives with the very bestest connector known to man, without forcing them to wait for the 4 to be released next year.

Explain to me again why nobody thinks this "refresh" is actually the iPad 4? If you think about it releaseing the iPad 4 now makes a hell of a lot more sense then a refresh.
