Great, apple, you are gonna make millions of customers' 'new iPad' obsolete in just 7 months, just so you can push the idiotic 'lightning connector' which offers no high speed transfer and simply serves as a medium to get more money from accessory makers.

obsolete. do you even know what the word means? if they released a new ipad every other month with an extra 10 minutes of battery each time it doesn't make your ipad obsolete and faster.
and its funny that everyone is screaming that imac updates take too damn long and now when they finally refresh something ever so slightly people are jumping up and down in anger.
its a freaking connector adjustment and maybe a couple mins more of battery life. No one would be able to tell the difference if you did a side by side comparison by actually using it.

This might piss off my nephew who got the current iPad last month when he got his new iPhone, now he's locked into a 2 year contract with an iPad already out of date and can only use 3G here in AU.

I'm looking at getting an wifi iPad mini depending on the price.

let me guess, you'll be in line for the ground-breaking new revised iPad 3, am I right?

If it is just the lightning connector, I don't care as much. If they revised the damn thing I will be pissed. That would not be good business at al, and not very apple like. I find this hard to believe.

GOOD. Maybe now they can finally start getting out of this 12-month redesign cycle they and their customers are locked into. Apple should make updates to the iPad and iPhone when they an addition worthy of an update. They don't update the iMac's and Macbook's every 12 months because there's no reason to. They do spec bumps when it's necessary and there's no reason the iPhone or iPad should be different.

BAD. There are lots of people, including myself and two friends of mine, who get new iPads (and iPhones) every year when they're released, selling our old ones for 75%+ of the original cost and upgrading to the latest for just a fraction of what simply outright buying a new device would cost. The yearly cycle means dependability on Apple's part and allows for us to do this very easily.

I do NOT want to see Apple pull the same BS as Google is now with the Nexus 7 — possibly releasing an updated version with twice the storage and cellular internet at the same price point as the 16 GB model was when it was released just three months ago. My husband, a 16 GB Nexus 7 owner, was not at all happy when he heard of this horrid 32 GB + cellular rumour.

This is true!

However if Apple makes MS products look so bad consummers reject the product they will have to engineer a new device that is at least reasonable competition or sell on thin margins. MS isn't looking for thin margins.

Next week could be very interesting if iPad gets a whole new generation of processors. Processors by the way MS can't likely duplicate real fast. Maybe we are about to see a far more agressive Apple.

Well they already are behind by 2.5 years :)

iPad 3 upgrade would confuse iPad mini

I think an iPad 3 with A6 is in the works, with Lightning, makes sense, but not at the same time the iPad mini comes out. No Way.

Each would cannibalize the other. Since I'm happy with the iPad 2 haven't upgrade to the iPad 3 because it wasn't worth it. An A6 iPad would likely be worth it. I have the money to buy both an A6 iPad and iPad mini (and the iPhone 5, when they can finally deliver on the quantities), but I would never do it. I'm not a spendthrift and would never be able to justify the purchases to myself.

I expect most people to be the same. Of course, if the market for the A6 iPad and iPad mini do not overlap, then all bets are off.

I think Apple NEEDS to update the iPad to the lightening connector ASAP. Many people who don't own an iPad (myself) know that the lightening connector is the "wave of the future" and sales will stall till apple makes this update.

Why would I want a full size iPad today with an outdated connector when I know the next iPad will have the new one? Once the connector is updated I will buy that iPad.

I don't know if you realize this, but the effect that Apple releasing a new product has on the ones you already own is nil. The iPhone 5 coming out didn't make my 4S any slower.

WAAAHHHH now my iPad is absolete!! How dare Apple continue making new products!!!!

Some of you people really need to grow up. your (new) iPad will still continue working just fine. Apple has no obligation to leave certain amount of time between refreshes. It will be an extremely minor update anyway. New connector and probably new screen technology that will allow better battery life.

I think you guys really need to think outside the box. Apple doesn't need to stick to rigid 1 yr refresh cycles. I expect iPad updates to be more unpredictable just like Mac's. That's why it's now "iPad" instead of adding the number.

Wonder what this means for the March iPad cycle release.

I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see an update in March anymore...

It still sucks for those who bought the 'New iPad' not too long ago..

I have a friend that bought one a week ago. He's going to lose a bunch of money when he tries to sell it.

ipad needs a bump to iphone5 spec.
silly if they didn't, particularly LTE after their issues in with "4G" "+cellular" in some markets,...

For those saying people should stop whining about a new model coming under the typical 1 year cycle, to some degree, I agree.

BUT... isn't one of the main talking points that Apple fans love is that their device is guaranteed to be the most modern one for a year? I mean, people LOVE saying this, I noticed. And in fact, use this against the competition that apparently is "out of date" within months.

A bit of pride is in question here, I guess.

Why?

I think it makes sense to update the 10" iPad at the same time as the 7" one, introduce a new line of iPad's.

Look at it this way they are not going to update the iMac 21" without the 27" right.

In line with one of the theories explaining two dozen iPad part numbers that appeared earlier this week, 9to5Mac reports that half of those part numbers are indeed for a revised version of the third-generation full-size iPad.

The revised iPads arriving at next Tuesday's media event will reportedly make the switch to Apple's new Lightning connector, and may include other enhancements as well while retaining the same pricing as the current models.Claims of a revised full-size iPad surfaced in July amid considerable skepticism, but gained momentum with several follow-up reports in subsequent weeks and were fleshed out with additional rumors over the past several months.

Rumors for the tweaked iPad have included a shift to new indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) display technology, better heat dissipation, backlight changes, 4G LTE support for the UK and other countries using the 1800 MHz frequency band, and perhaps even a move to Apple's new A6 chip found in the iPhone 5. It is, however, unclear just which of the rumored changes will actually be included in the revision.

I'm skeptical. 8 months is far too soon, given that the length of time between updates has consistently been 10 months. One per calendar year and at the time of the iOS x.1 update. I do feel as though, early next year is a solid bet and I do feel as though the rumors of the revised 16GB iPad 2 is going to be replaced in favor of the iPad mini is believable.

It's funny how a lot of people here say "apple has the freedom to not stick to their yearly release cycle for iPads'

That's a valid point, which is what makes it funny, because it means apple could've waited an extra month or two for the IGZO display to be ready and then ship out the iPad 3.

Apple will announce a refreshed version of its full-sized, 9.7-inch Retina display iPad at its media event October 23rd, according to our sources.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
People actually believe Apple will have a second full sized iPad release in the same year. Oh sorry, that's just so silly it's funny. Can't help laughing at statements like this.

Hope people don't actually believe this. They are fools if they do.

An iPad mini/nano/whatever they will call it is theoretically possible. But a 2nd full sized release in the same year. Just not going to happen. Apple would not spite the 2012 iPad purchasers like that.

If they release a new iPad the have to change the name or they will get a lot people pissed and they will get a lot of BBB complaints starting with mine.. :D

If they can pull these off

it would be great for Apple (especially with Microsoft surface is launching) and Nexus 7 doing good

Nexus 7 @ $249 for 32GB also coming ...

I am not sure if they have enough inventory/stock - if this comes true.
