For those saying people should stop whining about a new model coming under the typical 1 year cycle, to some degree, I agree.

BUT... isn't one of the main talking points that Apple fans love is that their device is guaranteed to be the most modern one for a year? I mean, people LOVE saying this, I noticed. And in fact, use this against the competition that apparently is "out of date" within months.

A bit of pride is in question here, I guess.

Exactly. There will be people saying: "look, android makers are worse when it comes to things like these"

Then, then it really comes down to..apple bringing themselves down to the other android-makers' level.

i wonder if this will be a silent update like we saw with the iPad 2 or they will mention it in the keynote?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
People actually believe Apple will have a second full sized iPad release in the same year. Oh sorry, that's just so silly it's funny. Can't help laughing at statements like this.

See we just don't know. I'm not betting on anything until I read the report after the 23rd to see just what Apple release and when we might get it.

The iPad has always been an expensive toy for me as I've upgraded every year but dang, so soon?! Doesn't seem likely as the 3rd gen iPad is still the #1 selling tablet. Maybe this is to go against the Microsoft Surface???

Hope people don't actually believe this. They are fools if they do.

An iPad mini/nano/whatever they will call it is theoretically possible. But a 2nd full sized release in the same year. Just not going to happen. Apple would not spite the 2012 iPad purchasers like that.

There was talk since day 1 of iPad 3 of the revamp including being slightly skinnier due to a new backlighting system for the screen and adjustments to the battery.

Get over yourself.

BAD. There are lots of people, including myself and two friends of mine, who get new iPads (and iPhones) every year when they're released, selling our old ones for 75%+ of the original cost and upgrading to the latest for just a fraction of what simply outright buying a new device would cost. The yearly cycle means dependability on Apple's part and allows for us to do this very easily.
As long as there is demand you will be able to resell your device. By throwing a hard punch at MS You are assured demand for your iPad. Apple management has publiclly stated that they will not make the same mistakes Apple made in the past.
I do NOT want to see Apple pull the same BS as Google is now with the Nexus 7 — possibly releasing an updated version with twice the storage and cellular internet at the same price point as the 16 GB model was when it was released just three months ago. My husband, a 16 GB Nexus 7 owner, was not at all happy when he heard of this horrid 32 GB + cellular rumour.

I don't give a damn about Google and Android, MS is Apples real competition, as such I don't want to see them fall behind like in the past. They need to do everything possible to make sure MS new tablet gets clobbered in the marketplace.

What could you possibly complain about?

Since when is improving a product bad business.
If they release a new iPad the have to change the name or they will get a lot people pissed and they will get a lot of BBB complaints starting with mine.. :D

It still sucks for those who bought the 'New iPad' not too long ago..

I have a friend that bought one a week ago. He's going to lose a bunch of money when he tries to sell it.

just return it for a full refund. You have up until 2 weeks.

----------

While it's certainly within your rights to do so, will you go, and re buy an iPad when this mythical one isn't released?

yep...or 2 ipad mini's depending on the price point.

For one, I think you guys complaining need to stop. Nothing is set in stone at the moment. I'll bet that even if this iPad 3 refresh was true, Apple would probably just change to a Lightning connector to transition all their mobile devices to that cable. All of you who bought the iPad 3 would have nothing to worry about. Apple would still hold the iPad 3 equal to the refreshed iPad 3, so updates will be exact, no outdated nonsense like that of Android devices. Then Apple will maintain their usual Spring release for the next iPad. That's where the iPad 4 will come in with the whole 9 of updates - camera, redesign, A6(x) processor, thinner, lighter, etc. That's just my outlook on it.

Introducing the 'newest iPad'.... :(

As a yearly upgrader, if this sees anything other than cosmetic change from one dock to the other (if there are improved screens, battery, new chip) then Apple have just caused me to be very hesitant buying / upgrading to the new iPad each spring.

This is more annoying than Android land, where the flagship device remains flagship for about 6 months before the maunfacturers tinker with the specs and release a S or + model.

If it all pans out to indeed be a newer improved iPad 7 months in to the year, I think instead of another iPad this spring, I might take a closer look at a Surface Pro this spring instead. It won't be that much more expensive than the €800 I spend each spring on iPad.

You could make the argument they are already doing that with a 7" iPad mini

Agreed. I think that MS is putting out some good products and if they get their marketing together they will start grabbing some market share from someone.

At this rate the iPhone 5S will come out next week too. I'm surprised they are updating the iPad so soon.

See we just don't know. I'm not betting on anything until I read the report after the 23rd to see just what Apple release and when we might get it.
You are right best to wait and see. Seems very unlikely though. But anything is possible I guess.

Yes there was talk on this. But a lot of talk does not materialise into anything or any product. So I just take it as just another rumour.

Everyone said there would be a 2nd iPad release last year. Even though the whole 2011:year of iPad 2 thing was said. Best to just wait and see.

I'm going to laugh if its literally just a refresh of their iMacs or MacBooks. People take this rumor stuff too seriously, especially knowing Apple likes to mess with the public.

Not gonna be envious with this revised ipad 3. I need the older connector for now with my current ipad 3 as I depend on a/v output with the 30 pin cable I have

A case for misleading advertising for launch 4G customers UK

If they do indeed add 4G support for UK and Europe in a revised new iPad, could those with iPads who bought them at launch when Apple was touting them in advertisements as 4G (before being officially told off for false advertising by the advertising complaints commission and European regulators) make a claim to Apple that they were then mislead in their purchase, and that they want their 4G iPad replaced with the revised version that actually does support their LTE network as the original advertising had led them to believe.

A major revision at this time could potentially double performance of the iPad. This is huge and frankly as much as I love my iPad 3 it could use a performance boost. At this time it looks like a doubling of performance would be a no brainer for A6.

Interesting view. I have an iPad "3" and my thoughts are that there better be some killer apps that require more power for me up upgrade to another new ipad anytime soon. Mine seems to do everything I use it for with ease.

A year ago none of these rumours made sense to me, but I've come around. This is why they dropped the number (and why they didn't on the iPhone). Makes it easier to just revise whenever you're ready, and with as big or as small of a revision as they want. The product is iPad, whether you have the early-2012 model or the late-2012 model, or whatever happens in 2013 doesn't matter, you just buy one when you want an upgrade. Just like every other product they sell.

And really, what is the design/market argument for strict yearly cycles? It's arguable in the phone industry, where the product relies on annual support from carriers and other infrastructure, and consumers are locked into contracts. But in the tablet/computer space all it means is you can't release when new technology is ready, you can't update alongside other product line makeovers, you are guaranteed to always miss the back-to-school and holiday market, you allow competitors to easily plan around releases and/or beat you to the punch, and even consumers get into a habit of putting off purchases for the next one, rather than feeling free to buy whenever it makes sense.

I guess I just can no longer think of any reason why they shouldn't release a new iPad if they have one to release.
