They have this down. Never give regular updates, then bring out the new *major* version, charge. Repeat and repeat.
I've been disappointed in the pace of updates since 3.0 was released, but $5 is small compared to how much use I get from their app.

Totally didn't mind paying again for an app I literally use multiple times everyday.

The iPad experience is also fantastic.

Thanks Tapbots :D.

Can someone explain for the life of me why can't Tweebot authenticate using Twitter accounts integrated in iOS? What is this requesting token request non sense all about?
If you add your accounts during initial setup, it uses what is built in. If you have to add again, it looks like it just sends you to twitter website. The trick here is to just check all of your accounts at once.

So the developer pulled the old Tweetbot apps? They don't even show up for me in my Purchased tab. :(
Looks like they did...tricky, Didn't know developers were allowed to do that. Searching in mine yesterday, I see A lot of "retired" apps but they still show.

Does anyone remember the shortcut to switch to light/dark mode? It was something on the screen but I forget.

It is coming soon to Tweetbot 4. Tapbots didn't want to implement it without actual usability test.
Yay 3d touch!

& Looks like they already have an update coming out. Woo! https://twitter.com/tapbot_paul/status/649632342869327873

Bought it immediately! :)

I too found the iPad version long overdue however.

The reason I stick with Tweetbot:
- syncs between my iPhone, iPad and iMac
- dark mode

Don't mind paying $5 for an app I use multiple times a day.

I bought Tweetbot 3 but only use Twitter sporadically so I deleted it and returned to the first party Twitter app when they added 3D Touch support. I figured I'd pull up my old purchase of 3 and try it again to see if I wanted to shell out for 4 only to find that the devs pulled it, so I can't access my old purchase. And so I decided I could live without buying the new app.

The guys at Tapbots lost me a long time ago when they just simply stopped updating their apps. Now I guess they are all in on Tweetbot... no thanks. Same old. They wait a long time to update an app just so they can call it a "major" version and charge you again. Pathetic. I'll never buy another app from these guys, and I've had almost all of their apps including Tweetbot (for Mac).
Yes, how dare they make anything but free upgrade for life! Don't they realize that I don't want to skip a cup of cappuccino to buy this app?! </s>

I have to agree. I wouldn't call myself a twitter power user, but I do check it quite often throughout the day for news. Tweetbot v3 works fine and as long as it continues to do so that's what I'll use. If it breaks, I'll move to the free official twitter app. Really don't see any features in v4 that are worth $5.

F.lux alone is worth it to jailbreak. I updated to iOS 9 and it is by far the #1 thing I miss. Once you get used to it, it's very tough to go back. I use it on my computers as well. I've sent feedback to Apple begging them to implement it natively, although I know chances are very slim.
Apple probably won't implement it because F.lux screws up the color temperature and accuracy. I would frankly settle for "Dark mode", but judging from how limited it is on OS X, it may underwhelm. I am hoping a switch to OLED screen will bring dark mode done right.

I'm awaiting the "I'm not paying again" crowd. $5 (or £3.50, whatever it turns out to be) is great value for a universal app that works so well. I paid more for my lunch today.
That said, it's only $5 temporarily, it's actually $10. It's been a while since I paid a little bit much for an app. Things.app was the last one.

Tweetbot and Spotify are probably the two most used third party apps on my iPhone. So spending $5 for Tweetbot 4 is a no brainer for me.
Agreed. I use both quite a lot and have no problem spending the $4.99 for it. Though I am disappointed it took this long for an updated iPad version, I am very happy to finally have it.

I take it you don't have an iPad or a current one... Split View on my "every day use" apps makes them insta-buys as it instantly adds value to an iPad (even for slideover). They probably know this :)

This changes the colour temperature? Is that it? What am I missing?

That's it. Other than doing it on a schedule, gradually. And turning itself back on a schedule.
But even the ability to manually change it would be nice, it's just more pleasurable to look at a warmly colored screen when it's night time, especially when the ambient light in your room is also low or off.

Understand. Sounds cool, but I wouldn't JB for it.

True, but even at $10, it's something I use multiple times a day so the value is there for me. I'm a big fan of Things.app too!

The reality is though that it is only three guys who are developing and supporting the apps. They need to keep money coming in to live off and Twitters token system means they can't afford to just sell it ultra cheap to keep generating new sales. This means that they need to monetise their existing users in order to be able to afford to keep developing. Outside of mobile phones you don't expect to get free upgrade to new version of a piece of software, you expected to have to pay to upgrade but often at a special discount. Apple don't allow an upgrade system though so developers were forced into free upgrades or separate full price.

To be honest I have upgraded and at the moment is no features I need, I have to wait until 3D touch support is added later. I have bought every version and happy to do so because they need the support and in the wider scheme of things the cost is nothing at all, even if it isn't cheap compared to other mobile apps.

I love using their apps but hate how they let the iPad languish for so many years. Still way better than the default Twitter app, which has done nothing but go downhill since Loren Brichter stopped working on it.
