How is this case when it comes to flipping the cover over for one hand use? I need to be able to put the iPad on my lap in a chair in class. The chair only has a fold up "desk" with enough room for a notebook. So being able to fold the front cover completely to the back is very important.

Thanks.

I was literally using my BookBook in that manner when I saw this post! Works great.

Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate the fast response too! Now I just need to verify with professors whether an ebook using student is going to be harassed for using technology in new ways... *sigh*

My wife's a college professor and while nobody in her class has used an iPad yet, the click clack of a laptop keyboard is annoying to her and other students. If you can be subtle with e touchscreen and/or use a lecture audio recording app, that might be better.

Now if I was really OCD . . .

The BookBook looks super but I would like a different mounting system. If I was really a fanatic I might try getting a good price on something like a Macally Bookstand*, cut off the back, and glue it in the BookBook to hold the iPad. From the BookBook photos it looks like there is enough space . . .

*other cases that uses clips to hold the ipad might work.

It's more for the textbook. Carry my iPad vs carry two 10lbs books? I find writing notes on paper to be easier to remember. So there won't be any typing just a replacement for my textbook at this point.

It's a beautiful case but am I the only one who uses the iPad on her lap and relies on the incline similar to the Apple case for comfort?

so has anyone's case straightened out yet?

FAQ said a few days, but mine are still as curvy as when it arrived.

I've been going back and forth on wether or not to order this case. Just wondering if anyone has new thoughts or information on it? Any word on how it hols up after some use? What about a different/better way of securing the iPad inside?

I've stopped using the Book Book case. The iPad has a tentency to fly out of the case because the straps do not hold it well enough, especially as the corner leather stretches. Sad, I know as it is still quite beautiful.

That's not what I wanted to hear. Although I like the looks of the case, and wouldn't mind using it like a sleeve to protect I while carrying it around. If your interested in selling yours pm me.

I have stopped using mine for the same reason. AND it is still just as bent as the day I gOt it. Such a shame. It really is a gorgeous case, but not as good as I thought it would be for the price.

Book Book That Bad?

Hi Everyone,

Woah the thread just stopped with a couple of negative comments. I am in the market for the greatest (for me) Ipad case and I think the BookBook is just a very good candidate. I am also thinking Dodo/Portenzo but,

  • Those cases (As I understand) do not offer nearly as much protection against fall which the BookBook does?Is this correct?
  • They are not as special and do not give same feeling of old craftmanship

I am considering those guys because 95% of what I will use my Ipad for (will buy it soon) will be simple reading (Website, Ebook)...so a book looking case so makes sense to me!

But the Book Book has got a number of issues:

  • A bit bigger than Dodo vs
  • There is a zipper
  • And the MAIN issue for me, those funny straps...more on that later

As this series of video reports:

Tends to show, there really is a problem with those straps and in some circumstances the ipad could just fly out of the BookBook (Check video 2). However as video number 3 is saying, this is not in practice any concern and it is actually a great case.

So I was wondering if the people (Busymom23 and dmk005 or others maybe) who stopped using the case because of stripping issues could be kind enough to describe further the problem so that we can try to understand if this would apply to us too.

As the person in the video says this is not actually a big issue but others differ in their opinion. Trying to understand!!!

Have a good week end

Take Care

Jeff

Jeff~

I occasionally still use my BookBook case. It is gorgeous. It is terrific for making your iPad incognito. Judy realize it will have a curve on the back side.

I will say I have NEVER had a problem with my iPad coming out. Ever. I do keep it zipped for transporting, like in my work bag. How it works for you will depend on how you use it.

I just put my new iPad 2 in this case today since putting it away some months ago.

It's as if it was made more for the slimmer profile iPad 2 than the original iPad. Snug fit with no more bowing of the back cover of the case like it did with the original iPad.

SUPER GEEK ALERT!!!
I painted the cover to look like a book from Harry Potter because, well, I'm a geek.
It has really nice leather and feels awesome.

Corners come gold-embossed and same for the spine. I only modified the main part of the cover.

The outside of the case is hard and structured, and the inside is super plush/soft and cushioned. Also inside are a leather cord and latch to prop it up in landscape mode. The leather corners at the bottom hold the ipad in with the elastic strap going across the top. The inside is more red than this, once again it was really a lot of blue light in my house.

The main complaints people have about the bookbook are the elastic strap being on the ugly side, and the zipper. I don't mind either of these things and actually like that the ipad is on its little pillow closed in when I'm not using it. So there you have it. Customer service for both companies were great, shipping was fast for both as well. I also got the Octavo which is a really nice moleskine-style case, but I just love my Bookbook way more. Oh and I don't have any bowing like people did with ipad 1.

fellow harry potter geek (july 15th cant come soon enough!) and my girlfriend has this case...and all we both have to say is awesome job!

Do you recommend it for ipad2? Does it stay in one place and do not shake inside case, cause the straps were made for thicker ipad1?

It's been awhile since I posted on these forums, but I do agree. Awaiting the arrival of my other case, but until then, the BookBook works surprisingly well for my ipad2.

It may slip by a hair, but that's to be expected with the elastic on one end and corner straps on the other. I just push it back every now and then, no biggie. The one con I still warn about, as with the ipad1, just be wary of how you hold the BookBook while it's opened as the ipad can fall out easily if upside down. Course, this is a no brainer, however you'd be surprised especially if you're not paying attention, in a hurry, letting others handle it, etc.

Finally bit, ordered one. Anyone have experience with em for the 2?

It looks gorgeous! It's just the securing mechanism, and the hassle each time you want to use it as a stand. But definitely not gonna matter if you only use it as a folio, in its "Stealth Mode";)

And do you know what the weight is?

Their site doesn't have weight... stealth is the big reason I was going down the Portenzo road, and personally I prefer my iPad with just it's best skins ever on it, so using it to deter would be pad grabbers works for me...

I have a friend who does leather working and will see if she could improve on the tabs...

Yeah, Portenzo fits all my bills, especially for its huge weight advantage over all the moleskin cases. Unfortunately now I'm deterred by all the "shipping frenziness". Hope they get around.

The wrap-around-and-hook-runs-beneath-the-ipad design indeed needs major improvement.

This could be an option to "fix" the BookBook. Make the top strap corners only, and loop in underneath the backing to the opposite corner.
