I had this on my iPad 2 the first week I had it. Supper nice when it is closed up. Looked great. Only had two problems with it. First was the bottom corners. I was constantly pushing the iPad back down in them. They were tight enough to mess up my non perfectly applied screen protector but the iPad kept sliding up out of them. Also when I opened up and folded it all the way back, the zipper rubbed my iPad in the top left hand corner. These issues may sound nit picky and might not be an issue for anyone else but for 70 bucks I just wasn't happy enough to keep it. If it somehow used two more corner holders at the top instead that elastic band I would have kept it. I had the red one and it looked really cool. I used to get some funny looks when I would sit down in class and open it up and people realized that an iPad was inside.

I've used the BookBook for my first ipad and I firmly believe it "looks" better when my ipad2 is in it. When used with the ipad, the BookBook had a warped/bent look when zipped, however with ipad2 that doesn't happen.

BookBook works well as an ipad2 case. The protection is there and as already mentioned, the stealth factor is one of the major advantages, you will definitely get compliments as well as the "I thought it was a book" comment.

The only negatives that come to mind, obviously no rear camera hole, but removing the ipad2 only takes a nanosecond anyway. Setting it up for landscape mode using the tether is something I rarely bother with, even debating on snipping it altogether. Which just leaves the secure tabs or lack thereof, wish they had tabs on all four corners rather than the elastic on top. It does the job, but you have to be mindful to not pick it up the wrong way or when you let others handle it. The chance of the ipad2 slipping out is there, happened with my ipad, so just pay attention.

Aside from that, I thought I would sell the BookBook as soon as I received something else, but so far it makes a great transition case. As a primary, great protection, stealth, and if you're a fan of the look, you won't be disappointed.

Weight is about 12 ounces or so.

It looks gorgeous! It's just the securing mechanism, and the hassle each time you want to use it as a stand. But definitely not gonna matter if you only use it as a folio, in its "Stealth Mode";)

And do you know what the weight is?

Agreed...love love the look...just couldn't get over the straps

My wife looked at it and suggested pulling the straps and just Velcro the iPad in

In looking at the top elastic, it appears that I could replace it and have it only catch the corners. Amazon says it's in stock so should have it this week.

wow, handmade case ad received shipping notice, very cool!

And it's here!!

Couple of updates for ipad2.

First, the strap and the leather tabs are VERY snug. I don't see how it could fall out at all.

Second, the right leather tab has holes for the speaker.

On a side note, I am able to still use the smart cover if I don't use the left leather tab. (that way if I wanna go with just the cover, it's with me, AND it really is snug, so no worries about falling out)

Can you post some photos? This case has my interest piqued. Even if just for the coolness of the book look.

It literally looks like the pictures here

I did a bit of surgery on mine and turned it into a smart cover with the addition of a neodymium disc magnet. (cut a slit near the edge of the inside of the case about an inch above the leather button. Put a bit of gorilla glue to hold the magnet against the board inside, and a touch of glue to close the slit. The magnet is not even noticeable, and I have a smart cover the way I want)

Has anyone tried to use a DoDo Frame (or something similiar) and glue it into the BookBook?

Wouldn't that type of setup eliminate the issue of the leather strap / elastic strap issue?

Not sure I understand just yet.

If the DoDo frame is glued into the book (where the straps / elastic are), then the iPad would fit flush into that setup.

The top/lid would fold in the closed posistion and then the zipper would be on the edge of the wood frame. Does that make sense?

I apologize - i float between this and the MBA forums and own the MBA bookbook - it needs to slide the top...the main reason I won't do a bookbook ipad case is the straps - too many...

Cool.

What is the plastic back you used (brand/model)?

Any other backs you've since then that you would recommend for the same purpose?

I wonder if I could glue the plastic holder into the bookbook vs the wood frame you used...

I was gonna say this is a nicer, more authentic version of the dodo case, but it looks like he iPad is secured by a little stringlike thing. Beautiful design though.

If this had a more solid way of holding the iPad in place I'd order, but I could just see those elastics getting stretched and I can't imagine how loose and floppy it would be.

For those who have an unmodified version, does the iPad move around at all inside the case, or when using it?

Actually it still fits as snug as the day I bought it. So glad I went with the Bookbook over the Portenzo after reading all the horror stories. I added a magnet to the cover under the soft liner and my BookBook performs as a smart cover with no issues.

Both the wife and I have them and they both are in great shape.
