What is the 18 hour long movie?

Thanks! I will check out the show once I have fully located it to stream or download.
The original, two seasons worth is available with a Netflix subscription. It’s possible it will strike you as overacted, maybe even silly at times, but this is by design. I became quite fond of it.

The 18 hour movie reference, which I have not yet seen is to the third season of Twin Peaks that aired on Showtime, and is broken into episodes.

The problem with Netflix is I am stationed in England and hear that it doesn't work and I haven't been able to find a VPN that is confirmed to work with Netflix. I will look and see if it is on any of the streaming or downloading sites that I have to use and check it out.

Only if you have interest in Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me. I watched it on Amazon Prime, $2.99. I’’ve not seen The Return, so please shield any spoilers.

* Most significant.
  • Teresa Banks Investigation 1 year prior.
  • Ronette (the girl who partied with Laura, but escaped and found walking on train n tracks) and Laura are best friends.
  • *Laura Palmer knew Bob, told Harold Smith (her meals-on-wheels shutin), Bob had been molesting her since she was 12 and wanted to possess her.
  • Laura has a relationship with James Hurley (We knew that from original).
  • Harold Smith, her meals on wheels friend knew about Bob. Laura gives him the Diary with torn pages, (missing pages mentioning Bob?) We knew this from original.
  • Laura takes cocaine. We knew that from the original.
  • *Laura Palmer discovers Bob has possessed her Father, Leland, but she knows her Father’s personality seems to come and go.
  • *Agent Cooper knew Laura would die, he describes the next murder victim to Agent Albert Rosenstein. In a vision, he tells Laura not to take the blue ring.
  • Bobby owes Leo Johnson $5000. We knew that from the original.
  • Laura and Robette are paid to party with strange men at the Road House, but they end up in a strip club in Canada, with the two men and Jacque Renault. Laura ends up losing her top while dancing. Jacque invites them to his cabin later that week. Bob has had a bad effect on her. They spot Donna Hayward also at the cub partially undressed.
  • The one armed man yells at Leland at a stop light.
  • *Leland is shown murdering Teresa Banks so Bob has possessed Leland for over a year.
  • Bobby has a crush on Laura she ends up doing drugs with him. Bobby ends up murdering a drug dealer in front of Laura.
  • *Leland (Bob) rapes Laura. She finally realizes it (Bob) is or is in possession of her father in FWWM.
  • We experience Laura’s suffering and spiraling down.
  • The cabin- Ronda, Jacque, Leo, Laura. Leland knocks Jacque out. Leo runs away. Leland/Bob takes the girls to the train car, where... the one armed man tries to intervene. But later in the Black Lodge he demands his share of pain and suffering.
  • Not sure of Laura’s fate at first. I assume they were in the Black Lodge cause baddies are there. But wait, when we see Cooper, he is there comforting Laura as they both see an angel and appear to be happy, there are no baddies present. Apparantly the two lodges are identical in appearance or possibly connected. The first link I’ve posted explains by virtue of time distortion and both her and Cooper are together in the lodge seeing an angel. They are in the White Lodge, even though this happened cronogically before Cooper was possessed by Bob.
  • *But it can be assumed Laura and/or Dale are not out of the woods, hence The Return!

This prequel movie (approximately 2 hrs long) shows exactly how LP dies. It also shows that Laura was not a happy camper, she suffered, being driven to dark behavior, drugs and other things to cope or try to forget her situation described in spoiler. I have mixed feeling with this story. It completely flopped at the theater. We did not have to see what we knew happened to Laura when she died, however, FWWM alludes to the fate of Laura regarding the Black vs White Lodge and sets up Twin Peaks:The Return, which I’ll be watching soon.

FWWM is a difficult movie to digest. I believe it’s a masterpiece, but one of those works that really need introspection and analysis to be enjoyed as it should.
Can’t wait to hear your opinions on TP:TR !!! My sister just finished it and told me it’s the best thing she ever saw, and she cried multiple times during it. She’s going to do a TP:TR marathon next week!

Is Season One complete? Unless there is another way, I want to subscribe to Showtime for one month and watch it. Definitely cheaper than buying individual episodes on something like iTunes.

The limited series is complete.

No season 2 planned?

As of now, no. Showtime is open for a new season, Lynch not yet. Lynch also added that if he were to add a season it would take minimum three years from the green light to the time we see it on TV.
When you watch it you will understand why.

OK, It’s Started- The Return, on my TV only 6 months late. :D

Episode 1 thumbs up so far. It’s a treat to see these actors picking up their roles again. :D
Watching via Amazon/Showtime - 7 day free trial, then $8.99 a month, I figure 1 month.

Fantastic!! I was thinking about you earlier in the day (no, it’s not a Valentine thing, I just saw a TPTR actor in a different series).
Let me know. My sister finished TPTR last month, she did a sort-of binge marathon. She’s still traumatized by it; I quote her: “It’s the most beautiful thing I have ever watched.”
Keep me informed on your opinions, I love to read what people think of it while they watch it, and how their thinking progresses with the series.

Spoilers

Episode 3-
With the faceless woman, the tree/arm with a brain, and the room over the purple sea was bazaar.

I’m 4 Episodes in and so far, a bit heavy on the strange ****, but it feels true to the original so far. From what I’ve seen, the less time spent in the Lodge the better.

So far, have enjoyed seeing the Horn Brothers, Agents Bryson and Rosenfield, Gordon Cole, Hawk, Bobby, the Brennans and their son, but wonder how many of these appearances are mostly symbolic. Missing Sheriff Harry S Truman. Looking forward to Cooper regaining his wits, I’ve had enough of his blank stares as he stumbles along winning jackpots after emerging from limbo.

Glad you met Wally Brando and ... Dougie!

(The tree/arm is the evolution of the little man in the black lodge. Many missed this.)

Wally Brando was a hoot. I thought the arm with a brain was the one armed man’s arm... :)

The little man IS the arm. The tree is the evolution of the little man. Which is the arm. So the tree is the evolution of the arm. Which is the little man.

(In reality, the actor that played the little man became crazy as a heck, claimed that Lynch is a murderer/rapist and boycots anything Twin Peaks, so he tried to stop the new season by refusing to appear in it. Lynch decided to make him a tree.)

Did they ever make that clear in the original series about the relationship of the dwarf to the one armed man? Who is not really a man but along with Bob is a demon of sorts. Btw, I was surprised to see that the actor who played Bob, Frank Silva died in 1995 at age 45, of HIV.

It was clarified in FWWM.
Yep, Silva died in 1995 making S3 way more difficult to produce given his importance. And to think that he became a character thanks to Lynch’s mistake...

The Return Spoilers

Episode 8-
A bizarre, surreal episode. NOT a fan of Nine Inch Nails. David Lynch’s 2001 A Space Odyssey episode. I think I get that The Bomb released evil, ie Bob’s face I don’t get all the surreal images, the room above the purple sea, the significance of Laura Palmer’s face in an orb sent to Earth, unless this is represents good, the woodsman who descends to Earth and murders a couple of people in a radio station so he can send out a message that causes people to fall asleep, the bug that crawls down a girl’s throat while she sleeps. Maybe these things will be explained in the future.

Also am getting fatigued with Cooper stumbing around in La La land. Wake up dude!

Can't wait to watch this. I feel like I have to go back and watch S1, 2 and FWWM first as it has been so many years since I viewed those. I did watch the first few episodes of S3 as they aired, but I was spending too much time trying to remember the wheres and whys (you know, because the series is so straightforward in the first place) to really enjoy it.

Awesome that a season 3 was made. NEVER would have imagined this would happen.

Episode 8 (after the NIN scene) is one of the best things I have ever seen. I think often about this episode. The more you watch it the more symbology you will get. This is definitely Lynch meets Kubrick and Malick (for The Tree of Life).
As for Dougie-fatigue, well I won’t spoil anything. Just keep watching. Thank you again for your posts.

Absolutely! You MUST watch S1,S2 (at least 1-14 and 27-29), FWWM and I strongly suggest that you watch The Missing Pieces (after FWWM).
Also remember that S3 is not a TV season but an 18-hour long movie, so this changes the pace quite a bit; the best way to watch it is all at once (I actually did it).

Except it is divided into episodes and so far most of them end with a band singing in the Bang Bang Bar which I assume is the updated Road House.

Yep, it’s divided but Lynch made it clear that it’s supposed to be a feature film, not a TV series. That’s why it’s mostly missing cliffhangers (or they’re oddly placed as in E8 before NIN). As someone that has seen the 18hrs in a row, I can assure you that it changes everything and it makes way more sense that way.

Ten episodes in and this is dragging, Cooper (mistaken for Dougey Jones, Bob’s Cooper doppelgänger) is still in LaLa Land, (a stumbling trance) with the TV series relying way too much on quirky characaters and behavior but not moving the story along adequately. I also find it suspect that Dougey Jones would go through such a drastic change in behavior and appearance, and his wife is not more concerned. Sure she takes him to the doctor, who declares hm healthy, but Cooper is basically out to lunch. Enough already. :)

@yaxomoxay, nothing personal, but my impression is you have to be really vested heavily in the Twin Peakes vibe to find this enjoyable. I feel like I'm obligated to finish this but, it difficult to keep going. Now just maybe the story will make a miraculous turn around and get to the point.

Thanks for the update.
Lol, no offense taken :) obviously this work is very controversial, and TP fans have been split in two halves. Some loved it, some hated it. As for newcomers, strangely most liked it.

Once you see the whole thing together you realize that Dougie occupies minimum space, for example. Once all the expectations are gone, you will likely enjoy it even more. Some stories that I hated at first, now I love ‘em.
However, realize that this work is very very deep and the more you go ahead the more you will see it. Most importantly, its pacing is willfully weird and different than all current series and movies. TP3 is about delayed pleasure and mystery quite a lot.
