So anyone can just pay and get verified? Kind of defeats the purpose of VERIFIED, no? Like I’d like to see news handles being verified to check a source but if anyone can just be verified?
It's going to be a real problem if people with verified accounts (like I have) won't pay the fee and lose verification, then someone comes in, creates a spoof account, and then pays to get that verified. Very dangerous for disinformation, etc.

Also Twitter Blue isn't available everywhere yet, including my country, so I presume they'll have to roll it out globally first before they start stripping out blue checks.

How is that any more "dangerous" than people impersonating people who aren't on Twitter at all?

Twitter has been largely a useless platform to me ever since its conception. I used it quite a bit when it first was released for marketing purposes about 99% of Twitter is either marketing something, getting fake internet points from people, or selling nudes. I look forward to its death and I hope that Facebook and Instagram aren't far behind.

Because currently verification requires proof of identity, so even if someone isn't on Twitter, someone else can't create an account to impersonate that person and get verified. But if verification becomes just something you buy, without proving identity, impersonation becomes possible.

Just because Twitter is charging people for verification doesn't mean they're removing proof of identity requirements. Now it just means you have to pay for it which allows people who haven't been able to be verified, get verified...whether $8/m is too much remains to be seen.

They can ask for credit card only, additionally force the user to link a personal bank account and consent to a full credit check.

Most places that require identity verifications will only accept credit cards, such as carrier post-paid phone plan sign up.
You can also get prepaid visa and Mastercard credit cards. Fairly simple to do and been used for foreign PayPal, Netflix, mobiles etc. verification will be even simpler for larger bottling organisations to bypass too as they have more resources available to them. Other malicious agents also have millions of users stolen identifications to pull from too. Will make it more difficult for casual users to fake but not others.

remember, they want the revenue so if you want your dog verified they will happily take the cash no questions asked, LOL.

They haven't even implemented their verification rules that requires the $8/m fee. What makes you think that all you'll need is a credit card but no proof of identity like a license or passport? Or perhaps you don't think that and you just like to write nonsense.

Where did you get the idea that Elon Musk doesn't know the definition of "verified"?

Remember when you signed up for your postpaid cellphone plan? They asked for your locally issued credit card in your name, and they asked you to sign a credit check consent form.

Twitter can do the same.

There are more places that only accept credit cards and deny all other forms of payments than you think. Avis car rental being another example of that.

Right. I can't believe we're on page 10 and people believe "verification" will simply mean paying $8.

It wasn't like that when it was free, and it's not like that on Instagram or Facebook.

Well exactly what I said would happen did happen. False Business accounts were made and made fake tweets made their stocks drop due to the fake Tweets not to mention the few celebrity accounts (Including Elons) that were made just to troll people which led Twitter to pull the subscription method. This overall was a TERRIBLE idea!

Or the $20 leak was fake in the first place. Elon doesn't seem like the type of person who would be easily convinced of something that easily and that fast by an underling.

Also possible Elon leaked the $20 so that $8 would sound "cheap" in comparison.
I think the $8 is because a year comes in just shy of $100 then
