You mean just like Apple did this week?Seems strange to announce a price increase without any real details on the potential benefits increase.

I’d settle for them just getting the auto wipers and full-beam working.Elon is more concerned about twitter than shipping FSD. Don’t fret Eloners, FSD will ship soon. It’s basically a solved problem.
Consider this: I don’t have one, never had, never will. The world works totally fine for me without any of the social media.Everyone should delete their Twitter account. It sounds like if you do decide to keep it you are going to emptying your wallets.
In some countries and in some jobs there may be good reason to want to stay anonymous, while taking advantage of the additional features. Blue check would also prove to others you are a human. Yeah, certain bad actors will game them system but when reported enough times that credit card could get banned. There is no perfect system. Twitter personally isn’t important enough to me, regarding what I tweet, to warrant paying $96. So I will likely not pay the $8 per month and will treat the service more so for reading what the few accounts I follow have to say. YMMV.Why would you verify a fake name like you are the real @boingaboon, okay...
Always use your real name to deliver or say anything of value.
Are you really suggesting that Elon Musk is a fool? I am not even pro Elon Musk, nor do I worship him the way many people do, but calling him a fool? Nah mate. He aint no fool. Maybe he likes you to think he is a fool... But he has a lot of credentials and a ton of successes that disprove any notion of him being anywhere close to what a fool is...Musk is proving that the old quote of: “It’s Better to Remain Silent and Be Thought a Fool than to Speak and Remove All Doubt” is becoming more applicable to himself than ever before.
This. Elon is really a dummy or a genius cuz he wants to tank twitterThe whole point of the checkmark is so people know they’re talking with the real person…what’s the checkmark for if literally anyone can have it now?
Bill Gates is not an exception. He’s doing what he always did, but is now working to make his public image shiny.Yeah, power to the people. Sure.
The Truth: he's trying to figure out how to pay $11B in debt, held mostly the Saudi’s, with a company that’s been unprofitable for the last 8 of 10 years.
These billionaires pretending they care about us or any social good is pathetic. (With the notable exception of—and I cannot believe I am typing this—Bill Gates)
You’re not pro Musk but you’re pro-“wealth = credentials & sensibility”.Are you really suggesting that Elon Musk is a fool? Like most things on here….sounds like everyone's getting hot and bothered before any real details are out there....
Yeah this would be an acceptable solution. Auto-verify locks your display name to "Firstname Lastname" from payment/identification method, and keep the old verification process for anything where the display name is anything else.By paying you are using your real identity. That real name should be your Twitter name.
I mean... I will delete my account the minute I HAVE to pay to access it. Until then, I'll stay on there. I'm not verified now and don't feel like I need to be. I'm a zilch anyway. LOLEveryone should delete their Twitter account. It sounds like if you do decide to keep it you are going to emptying your wallets.
So stupid. Verification means nothing if you can just buy in. But idiots will pay it to feel special.
At least he tried to increase the barrier. You have to pay if you want your fake account looks real. Perhaps, next step, some limitation may be applied to non-verified accounts such as max tweet per day etc.So stupid. Verification means nothing if you can just buy in. So now, that Russian account spamming disinformation can get "verified", while the legitimate well-known business has to pay for the same. Really makes verification meaningless. While previously, it let you know you were following the real account, rather than a fake, now it'll mean nothing more than the faker paid $8.
That would actually save me money then. I pay a yearly subscription for Tweetbot, and if Twitter forces ads there, I'll just delete my account and not need that subscription anymore. Will not surprise me one bit if they insert ads in the API stream. Right now at least 1/3 of Twitter users use a 3rd party app and by doing that and not having ads in the API stream, they're losing big revenue. You can nearly bet Musk will change that and they'll add them to the API stream.
That's not increasing the barrier. Previously fake accounts didn't have any option to get verified. This opens it up for them to do so.At least he tried to increase the barrier. The Peasants (including scammers, spammers, and impersonators) will have the blue check mark by paying for it. Celebrities will have a gold check mark in Twitter Gold... (+$100 / month of course). Then Elon Loyalists will get a Silver tick whilst his enemies will be banished to the far off barren waste land of Trump Social (and no check mark)The whole point of the checkmark is so people know they’re talking with the real person…what’s the checkmark for if literally anyone can have it now?
There goes his marketing budget……Read today that apparently multi-millionaire Stephen King is very upset with the price increase...
Well yeah. I mean after paying for Netflix and Hulu, guys like Stephen Kimg just don’t have a dime left to spare.$8 is emptying the wallets of high profie people who need to be verified?
Except it is literally about the money.King made it clear that it isn’t about the money—by saying it’s not about the money.
Easy to get a prepaid debit card registered to a fake name and address. Use this to create a verified account. Simples.
