Like him or dislike him, only a fool would bet against one of the most successful businessmen of all time. Hate to disappoint, but Twitter ain't going anywhere.
Well he was lucky in that he turned millions into billions. Now though he might be turning billions into millions. He is not really a great business person as he has been fined multiple times by the SEC and been sued for slander at least once. He is just a giant baby that lashes out when he gets his feelings hurt. What kind of a good business person would want to pay a billion dollars in interest each year????

Qelon is going full Kanye as we speak. It’s been a revelation to watch “billionaires” lose their minds in the last decade and the water slide keeps getting steeper. Future generations will wonder how we let such untalented people become ultra wealthy when all they did was use and abuse their connections and manipulate money markets.

For those who are saying that they are purchasing blue status because they believe in what Musk is doing with the platform, what part of what he is doing are you in support of? Firing half their work force? Asking the remaining half to sign an agreement to work as chattel to keep up with the work that was previously being done by everyone who was fired? Allowing individuals to increase their ability to influence based on a monthly subscription fee rather than actually doing the work to confirm that they were who they claimed to be? Allowing those banned from the platform for spreading disinformation and hate to resume posting on the site based on the results online polls prone to being influenced by bot farms in hostile countries? Suggesting that it is best to appease a colonialist expansionist racist homophobic sociopathic genocidal dictator by ceding to him territory seized by aggressive force of arms and violation of international treaties he himself signed?

Now, I realize that Twitter might now actually be doing some very basic verification prior to adding "verified" status to an account, but I can see very little that Musk has done since the whole Twitter takeover saga began that I feel particularly supportive of.

The Elon haters are out in force on this one.
Let me clear up two points on this.

1,
You don't need Twitter Blue to tweet.
Anyone can join for free and tweet.

2,
There will be loads of celebrities and companies who want/need the checkmark.
I am sure they will be able to write the $8 off as a business expense.

When Musk has a paypal (one assumes this includes venmo btw)/prime/amazon’s shipping and warehousing infrastructure to make prime work/amazon’s compute platform to make prime work/etc mega corp backing that twitter blue membership let’s talk, but that costs a helluva lot more than $44B. Until then this is just kermit flailing.

Is it Elmo Musk flailing? Or Kermit?

Maths doesn’t work that way. Keeping 70% of proceeds means that you need to charge ($8 / 0.7 = $11.43).

At $11 a month, Musk gets $7.70 per user (or $9.35 after the first year, if they stay around that long). Which works out to about $8 minus credit card processing fees.
How do we know Elon doesn't own all the banks and he gets all the credit card processing fees?

You're not allowed to "upcharge" the 15-30% cut, the prices have to be the same outside the store, according to store rules. If he got that through a review and published, he must have something on Apple from the twitter files.

Not sure if that's an actual policy, but the de facto policy is that it is very much allowed. Google has been doing this with YouTube premium for years. On the App it's $15.99. On the website it's $11.99.

I happily deleted my Twitter account a month ago, so I don't care about this, but isn't this another form of dumb-assery and not understanding the internet?

Wouldn't somebody who wants this just log in via web browser to sign up for this service at the lower rate, rather than through the App on iPhone? Does Elon know people who would pay for this have web access to Twitter?

They want people to pay and still see ads? Let's see how that goes.
There's a bunch of streaming platforms (most recently Netflix and Disney+) that have no issues charging and still show ads. As the way people consume media changes, so will the ways companies look to generate revenue.

More so the paid consumers are paying the $44 billion dollar loan back Elon Musk took.
I doubt he took out a loan. Or has any debt of any kind.

Everybody can make a mistake. But I don't think this is one of his.
It could be worse, it could be one of those ads where the X button is too small for you to click on it.
LOL, that's funny!
After checking out 'The Twitter Files', I'm glad Musk bought it and ruined the ACTUAL misinformation game that was going on. I'm enjoying Twitter now. I'll gladly pay $11 now.
I'm thinking of it. I'm sure I can cancel an Apple subscription somewhere to pay for it.
LOL, you folks are hilarious. And I bet you're all on twitter and can't get off because you need to feel important.

/sarcasm, relax....
I'm not on it yet. I just can't think of a good user name for myself.
I better see this certified badge on Monday. You are about to be verified.

Throwing down the gauntlet!
You don’t need to pay to tweet. You pay if you want to be “verified”.
Right! Why don't people get that? Doesn't anybody read anything anymore?
I want to see Elon lose out on $44 billion so there's no way I'm paying him $11 to fund his hellhole of a site.
I kind of doubt he's going to lose out on anything. In fact, I'm thinking of buying a Tesla now. And NOT because it's an EV either, but instead because it's just got some bad@ss technology. And all those cameras, whoohoo!
Yep.. just like holding an iPhone says you willingly give your money to left-wing Apple.
Sometimes even Jesus went to where the sinners were.
100% Agree with you. I believe in what they are doing too but I don’t believe in paying for a nonsense/rip off subscription fee. Especially for a blue star.
It might not be a ripoff. Think about this for a moment: What if it now allows you to say what you truly think WITHOUT fear of being de-platformed, and WITHOUT fear of the cost of fighting it, only to still be told "no" at the end of it all? I think it's a good deal. At least until it's not.
If Twitter wants to charge consumers. Charge them $0.99 or $1.99 a month. The $8.00 is way too high. I rather get myself a 🍔 Big Mac from 〽️ McDonald’s once a month for that amount.
I'm not sure you can get in and out of any US-based McDonald's restaurant for $8.00 And if you could, omg, what will happen to your girlish figure? Maybe the $8 (or even the $11) is a good price after all! :p
Starting Monday anyone with a checkmark is a dork that doesn’t know the value of a buck.
Or...maybe they are people who have zero debt. If you had zero debt, a blue checkmark might very well not affect your life at all in any meaningful way. Those would be people with blue checks who really do know the value of a buck. Or 8 bucks.
