And all the lunatics that are closing their accounts because their feelings are getting hurt, and the fact that Musk is bringing truth bombs and fair balance to your upside down world, there are just as many of us that will migrate back to the platform and happily pay the $8. I mean the audacity of him allowing debate and forcing the lunatics to actually engage in conversations and have to actually have to back up their beliefs..... yeah, I can see why the heads are exploding.

Worst comment I’ve ever seen on MR bar none sadly.

If it’s “pay $8, send us your phone number, verify your address, verify that you’re a human (twitter biggest issue as of now)” then issues might be resolved.
And considering Elon's constant mentions about getting rid of fake accounts, I have to assume that will be the case.

This is the only good thing Elon has done so far imo. Not a fan of him at all but I'm glad he's opening verification finally since the original system was stupid cause randoms got it even though they had like 3k followers but almost-to-no users interacting with their tweets.

Paying for services like this does not guarantee your account will not get banned nor suspended... TOS can be updated anytime and some do not even notify they have it updated...

It’s because people think he’s paying $44B by his own money. Before even starting this thing after showing interest he had to gather several investors and banks, and they do not hand out billions without a plan and good contingencies.
Elon is worth (supposedly) something north of 100 billion dollars. I don’t know if I buy the “Elon’s in real trouble now” stories that I’ve seen about him buying Twitter but IF they are true then paying a billion is cheaper than being seen as incompetent as a businessman. And I doubt that he would end up needing to pay that much by himself anyway. People that rich generally don’t put themselves as buyer, they just control the holding company that is the listed buyer. Doesn’t mean he loses nothing but it does reduce his liability.

I thought that there was an escape clause that he could cancel the buyout but it would cost him 1 billion dollars. If Twitter does go belly up he will lose more than that. But that’s still an “if” , not a “when”.
The $1B breakup fee was in case the purchase was stopped by a government regulatory agency or something of that nature; not because Musk got cold feet.

If he loses money he’s not going to lose nearly close to $44B.

"Twitter will reportedly allow government accounts to stay verified, as well as those in regions where Twitter cannot charge payment."
Musk has no clue what the other hand is doing when he tells AOC to "pay up".

Musk responded to a tweet from her "personal" account (@AOC) which is different than her official government account (@RepAOC).

Well, they will care. They still have to explain why having people like me and you pay $8 to be verified is a bad idea. Honestly they sound like “Imma lose my special status!”

Well, being verified is often a time consuming process (you're ensuring the person making the account is THE Arnold Schwarzenegger not someone claiming to be Arnold Schwarzenegger) so there seem to be questions about how he could do this while also cutting half the workforce? Automating it down to "this person clicked a verification link in their email address" doesn't really mean they're verified in the way it does now because a scammer can use a throwaway email address. The check mark is for the benefit of twitter. It creates a valuable experience for other twitter users to know they're interacting with the real Arnold Schwarzenegger If Schwarzenegger opts not to be on twitter and a scammer impersonates him, scams other twitter users-- that's a problem for twitter, not Schwarzenegger. It will reduce the value of company and drive users away. Fewer users means fewer people they can serve ads to.
