Twitter today announced the debut of two new features: photo integration and improved search capabilities.

On the photo front, Twitter has partnered with Photobucket to allow users to attach photos directly to their Tweets rather than having to rely on third-party image-hosting services. The capabilities will be rolling out over the next several weeks to twitter.com and the company's official apps, and the company is working with mobile carriers to allow photos to be sent via MMS.

Over the next several weeks, we'll be releasing a feature to upload a photo and attach it to your Tweet right from Twitter.com. And of course, you'll soon be able to easily do this from all of our official mobile apps. A special thanks to our partner Photobucket for hosting these photos behind the scenes.
Twitter's improved search capabilities will bring increased relevance for results and also include related photos and videos directly on the results page. Twitter has also partnered with Firefox to integrate hashtag and username searching directly into the browser's address bar.

Twitter's new features are interesting given rumors that iOS 5 will include substantial integration with Twitter, specifically including the new photo sharing service. While Twitter obviously has made no announcements regarding such capabilities, we may hear more in just a few days as Apple previews iOS 5 at its Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Ahhhhhh, chatroulette makes it's debut in iOS5.
:rolleyes::eek::apple::confused:

Edit:
Twitter sucks, but I'll probably post pics to the tweetiverse if it's a one-touch option. Seriously though, how long before the wang outweighs the usefulness? It's just a still-version of chatroulette...

Looks real good, just hope they don't attempt to own the rights to photo's like Twitpic. Or was that why they did this...

The video clip on twitter's blog entry shows people taking pictures with iPhones. Anyone else think that clip will be updated next week with shots of people then uploading those photos right from the Camera Roll in iOS 5? Seems like they shot the video like that, then edited those specific shots out and replaced them with the computer shots.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8J2)

And this related to iOS 5 how? So if there were no iOS 5 twitter wouldn't have introduced such service? Thats what I got by reading the title.

And I thought Apples data center appearing on google maps was lame...

And yes, I read the article.

Meh, Im not a big twitter user nore do I care about it that much. its not a big deal y is twitter and apple blowing it up like its a huge thing? twitter sucks

Good Grief! That music in this video is horrible!!! Nay I say down right deplorable!

Sometimes people try too hard to be as uplifting as Apple when they use music in their work, but this... ouch... my brain hurts after this and I couldn't even watch the entire video through without killing the... let me say that again... KILLING the sound thanks to this bad pick of music they attached to it.

Awful!

Twitter is sort of a big deal. Are you the same type of person who said "Well, this Facebook thing will never take off"

Where can I get me one of them Twitbooks? :p

I think these features look like good additions for people who use the Twitter. I don't think it's a coincidence that this is happening right around when iOS and/or Lion appears to be getting some level of Twitter integration.

As long as this integration would be done smartly in iOS and Lion (e.g. not listing Twitter in contextual menus as a choice unless you have this option activated somewhere in preferences), I don't see a problem with it.

Will twitter die already. If I could, I would spray DDT on the twitter bird, so that when they lay their eggs, the shells would be too weak to survive.

What's wrong with Photobucket? Always worked lovely and quick for me, and iOS app works easy and quick also. what's the problem?

Photobucket is slow and their web/desktop interface is annoying. Too many steps just to be able to view the original picture. My desktop is 1280x1024, yet they display a near-thumbnail-sized image by default.

I agree, muted about 10 seconds in. Really really bad.

Photobucket only allows certain amount of downloads before it's disabled.

Twitter probably negotiated for some kind of unlimited deal though.
