Twitter today announced that it plans to stop supporting the Twitter for Mac app in order to focus its attention on a "great Twitter experience that's consistent across all platforms.

Starting today, the Twitter for Mac app is no longer available for download, and in 30 days, Twitter plans to stop supporting it all together.

Twitter says to get a "full Twitter experience on Mac," customers should visit Twitter on the web.

We're focusing our efforts on a great Twitter experience that's consistent across platforms. So, starting today the Twitter for Mac app will no longer be available for download, and in 30 days will no longer be supported. - Twitter Support (@TwitterSupport) February 16, 2018

Twitter for Mac has never never received a lot of attention from Twitter. In 2015, the company announced plans to refocus its efforts on building new features into its Mac app after providing only sporadic updates over the last several years, but even after adding new features, the app was largely unpopular with Twitter users, earning only 1 and a half stars out of five in the App Store.

In recent months, Twitter has also been streamlining its apps. The discontinuation of the official Mac app follows Twitter's decision to remove the Twitter for Apple Watch app last September.

Twitter for Mac users who are looking for a desktop app experience rather than a web interface can use a third-party app such as Tweetbot or Twitterrific.

The new app better be in chronological order like this one is!!

The algorithm is HORRIBLE. No one likes it.

I love using the twitter mac app on my computer because everything is in chronological order, just how twitter is supposed to be, and unlike how it is on the IOS app.

Pleaseeeeeee stay in chronological order!!!

Is tweetbot in chronological order? I only want to use a twitter app that doesnt run on horrible algorithms!

Thanks

Guess I'm moving to tweeten…I have Tweetbot on my home Mac and iPhone, but not paying another $20 to put it on my work Mac.

Official twitter Mac app was garbage anyways…gif support mysteriously stopped working a few weeks ago, so I couldn't see half of the stuff people were posting.

I just downloaded Tweeten (I use Tweetbot) to try it
Running High Sierra

It never loaded, just looped back to set up every time
Deleted it after about 5 attempts

I'll stick to Tweetbot on my Mac and iPhone

Glad Apple is working to unify the iOS and Mac app environments (not the OSs). Too many app are iPhone only because the companies don't see it worthwhile to deal with the very different Mac dev environment. Devs are already forced to do their layouts in a very flexible manner due to the different iOS screen sizes, so sticking the same app on macOS should work in most cases.

Did you just drag the .app file to your applications folder or did you bring over the whole folder? I was having that crashing problem too until I decided to move the whole folder over instead.

I moved the whole folder to the Apps folder and then it kept telling me it could move itself to the Apps folder
I tried running from the folder in the Apps folder and pulling out by itself in the Apps folder
At that point after several tries it was no longer worth it to satisfy my curiosity about the App
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What would you say you devs do here? Hmm?

Time limit edit button. Simple. Straight forward.

What? :(

Understandable, when the likes of Tweetbot do a much better job.

I’m not sure I trust a third party app with my data and having to pay for it doesn’t make me feel better.
